I was completely against gear cp increase, but the expansion is the time for it

I hated the idea of regrinding everything, but the only way the expansion would feel like a new game is having a fresh start for everyone.

Also they can't keep everything cp160 forever so if they are ever increasing the level of gear an expansion would be the perfect time to do it.

If they added way to upgrade current gear then this would be a little less painful, but I honestly don't care. I want a fresh start.

What of earth are you thinking? Why would you want this? I take it you're the kind of player that does a few dungeons a day and has fun casually - no problem with that by the way.

But for people like me, who has some real good end game gear, IA Sharp Shock staff, VO sets, a few decent vMA weapons and a ton of monster helms, this would be a complete nightmare. I don't see why you'd want to increase the cap? So you can do more damage?

If they did this then honestly I'd quit, I've invested too much time into the game to have to repeat it again over and possibly take longer to be in the position that I am with the sets and gear I have. This is probably the worst idea I've heard of.

tbh it's about damn time the cap got increased. the lack of progression with the removal of increasing vet levels was bad enough, but keeping at vet 16 gear when a significant proportion of players are going to be effectively vet 60+...

You should go play WoW, games have moved past your outdated preference. If you want an endless grind, there's always WoW for you. Grind is already bad enough here, we don't need more grind. Please go play WoW.

If they increase the item cap without some possibility to upgrade current CP 160 gear to higher level (or better yet, to automatically upgrade all owned CP 160 gear to higher level cap) - then I suspect they will lose a lot of ESO+ subscribers and even players, but what is most important - the will lose trust of players. Because those who have the "BEST" gear suddenly won't have the BEST gear with no reason. The time it takes to get those items is precious. And when those item become obsolete - it is like somebody took that time and throw it to garbage.

It has always been like that with MMOs and expansions look at warcraft every 2 years a new exapnsion and everyone literally has to start everything over. This is normal and keeps the game fresh and fun and it has been happenening in ESO also btw with VR levels until they changed it to cp system

That concept is outdated. People play games nowadays for stories, for immersion, for content, for gameplay, grinding was fun ... 10 years ago, when there was nothing else to do. You can always play WoW if you want an endless grind, the grind here is already bad enough, we don't want more.

They are gamers who struggle with the fact that gaming has moved past their outdated preferences xD

To clarify, we do not plan on raising the gear cap when Morrowind launches in June. We’ll let you know when we plan to raise the gear cap in the future, but it won’t be in Homestead or Morrowind.

Thanks for posting that, good to read. I'd be suprised if zos did have plans to raise gear cap seeing as they do seem to be aware and concerned about power creep. Raising gear to c180 would compound the power creep problem. Imo a better way to freshen things up for the new update would be to revisit crafted sets and make them attractive again.

It's a good thing they already made it clear some time ago that they won't be increasing the gear cap over 160.

I am in favor of a cap increase, but only if they did a few things first:
    - remove prosperous and training from BoP gear
    - add a token system for vet trials and vMA/vDSA
    - add transmutation stones (even if only available in crown store) to change item traits
    - increase base difficulty of game to offset power creep due to CP and gear increase
    - revise crafted sets to make them equal (but not better) than looted sets (exception is trial/arena gear)

If those items were addressed, I would welcome a cap increase:
    - it levels the playing field some, this good for the longevity of the game given the constant roll over of new and old players.
    - it promotes replay of older content (even if some look at it as just a gear grind)
    - it helps boost the economy, creates a gold sink and gives reason to continue doing writs and farming/selling mats

If they don't increase the cap, the game becomes stale faster:
    - after new content is blown through, it is back to HM trials 5 times a week with no other purpose than to shave a few seconds off your leader board score (because you already have your BiS gear)
    - it further separates the elite few from the casual mass (in terms of socially, not power capability)

TL:DR Gear cap increase has its pros and cons. It all boils down to a market decision by ZOS. Is it worth losing some of the small elite player base in hopes of attracting a larger number new players and improving the overall longevity of the game by leveling the playing field every couple of years. WoW increases level cap every expansion and it is still making money, so something in the formula must be working (from a marketing point of view)!
