Light Female Skinchanger Armor and Hats

So I've noticed something a bit odd about the light skinchanger armor when worn by female characters.

Here's what the jerkin looks like.

ZAKGCZW.png

That's all right. I would be happier without having a huge part of the chest bare like that, especially since male characters wearing the same armor are much more covered, but okay.

However, this happens when you put the matching hat on.

Aa4waID.png
7KVXkOm.png

Now, if my character were a man, this would not be a thing. Because the men's version covers the chest, the hood has something to be connected to. The female armor on the other hand removes all this fabric and leaves the hat sitting weirdly, making it look like the bottom is stiff, or that the hat is connected to something invisible.

I've seen this pop up in some armor combinations before. Trying to wear hood-like hats from one motif doesn't always work with chest armors from another motif. You would get similar results if you tried to combine, say, a Breton hat with a barbaric robe. But the skinchanger hat and jerkin (and robe) don't match up, even though they're from the same set.

It's because female characters play second fiddle in this and every other game, it's wrong and it sucks but there it is. Several of my female alts are Nords, they remind me of my wife o:) and the amount of clipping issues with the skin changer heavy is crazy, I've yet to find and weapon than doesn't either sink into the back or the legs. Seriousely ZOS, if we can't get the weapon mounting points fixed can't we just make the dam things invisible :(

You are right. I hate that you are right, but you are right. Male characters are the "default", much like human characters are the default (so you have weird helmet shapes for Khajiit and Argonian and stuff clipping with elven ears). It sucks.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

You can't expect someone to go to all the trouble to log on a female character and test the appearance for every new motif.

Consider the log off and log on time alone. And the .exe crashing and opening the crash report app just because you tried to log off. That's a big time investment.

A LOT of the armor AND costumes are really sloppy for female characters. Check out THIS thread for more details:

Um... yes you can? If you're a designer, you test what your design looks like before sending it off to the public. To not do so is like painting a painting, but never looking at the final product before you sell it.

It's ten more minutes to test on a design that likely takes days of coloring and meshing. It's really not that much to ask.

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

Playing to the masses. That's why I highly doubt we'll ever see an Argonian or Khajiit centric TES game. That shouldn't detract from the fact that they should at least make sure they get the cosmetics correct.

The skinchanger helmets were a motif chapter awarded for doing New Life quests in late December and early this month. You can still probably find the chapters at guild traders, but you'll also need wolfsbane to craft one.

Don't want to hijack this thread since the OP has some great points about Skinchanger light. But, I managed to take some screenshots of the weapon and hair clipping issues on Skinchanger heavy (see below).

Granted, I didn't craft a full set of Skinchanger heavy in PTS Update 12 to see how it looked. However, testing and QA should not fall fully on the PTS playerbase either.

I agree with you both, @Integral1900 and @FluffyReachWitch ... it would be nice to have these issues fixed sooner than later.

It's peculiar that the women's items are so frequently very different from the men's in all the wrong ways. A plunging neckline is completely inappropriate for armor, for instance, even light armor. At the same time, though, it would be normal and appropriate if the armor had a different cut to fit the breasts without looking ridiculous or sacrificing the inherent form of the armor. It's really a hard line to draw, I understand, since there's such variation in character shapes and sizes, but there has to be some way to simultaneously make something look like functional armor without giving people a barrel chest.
