ESO: Morrowind has a new tutorial - what happens to the Wailing Prison?

This has been mentioned elsewhere, but I thought it deserved its own thread. In yesterday's announcement, Rich and Pete said that the Morrowind expansion/chapter comes with a new tutorial for newly-created characters featuring Naryu, which drops you on Vvardenfell at the end. They also said that you'd be able to get back to the mainland from Vvardenfell for the base game content.

What's going to happen to the existing Soul Shriven in Coldharbour tutorial that takes place in the Wailing Prison? If you start a new character and end up on Vvardenfell, then travel to mainland Tamriel where the story is focused on you reclaiming your soul, how will you be presented with the situation where Mannimarco sacrifices you and Molag Bal steals your soul? Without the Wailing Prison as an introduction, the Harborage storyline will make no sense.

As it is right now, it probably has not much influence on newer players now anyway. There's this old guy, and then he keeps stalking you in front of his cave with quests which you can all do after each other with your low level char, then you beat the evil big easy guy, everyone calls you the hero, and then you wander off for the rest of the hundreds of quests out there without probably even realizing this was supposed to be the big main quest.

I know what you mean tho, storywise it makes not much sense that way around with a new tutorial.

I wonder if there will be a choice once purchasing the MW Xpac, that would be preferable I think.

    • Revan- Dunmer Vampire Inferno Mage (EP) Dragonknight

I heard from him that if you just buy Morrowind and start from there you will start in Morrowind. If you have both, you can choose which one to start in.

I'm thinking maybe they'll just swap Naryu rescuing you instead of Lyris. Although that would break up the narrative structure tying Lyris with The Prophet.

You can't buy 'just Morrowind'.... The base game is always included, new players/characters will just start in Morrowind, but since all is level scaled, the new guy can just go anywhere from there without even starting the quests in vvardenfell

I think if you start in Morrowind and do the intro there, when you decide to go to the mainland you will lose your soul etc and then go through the intro there. It was mentioned somewhere, maybe by @ZOS_KaiSchober

I was wondering how this was gping to work too.

I was also wondering how this would work with Alliance.

Oh my Molag Bal, this would be great change!

There are certainly ways in which both instances are possible I imagine. For instance perhaps the Morrowind Intro is played by all, and perhaps the coldharbor experience is played by all (when you make the trip from one to another).
    US/AD - Dodge Hopper - Vet Imperial Templar | US/AD - Goj-ei-Raj - Vet Argonian Nightblade
    US/AD - Arondonimo - Vet Altmer Sorcerer | US/AD - Azumarax - Vet Dunmer Dragon Knight

    US/AD - Shirari Qa'Dar - Vet Khajiit Nightblade | US/AD - Ndvari Mzunchvolenthumz - Vet Bosmer Nightblade
US/EP - Yngmar - Vet Nord Dragon Knight | US/EP - Reloth Ur Fyr - Vet Dunmer Sorcerer
    US/DC - Muiredeach - Vet Breton Sorcerer | US/DC - Nachtrabe - Vet Orc Nightblade
    EU/DC - Dragol gro-Unglak - Vet Orc Dragon Knight | EU/DC - Targan al-Barkan - Vet Redguard Templar

I'm curious about it. I actually love the tutorial we have now. are we not going to be the vestige anymore? what happens with all the rest of the main quests?
also what happens with those that don't buy the expansion? how will their intros be? where will they appear next? =o
    so many questions!

They could probably do it one of two ways:
    1. Leave the wailing prison as it is, and have you land in Vvardenfell rather than the alliance starting zones. Here you meet Naryu
    2. A whole new tutorial with Naryu, and upon leaving Vvardenfell you are captured by the worm cult, and subsequently sacrificed.

Yeah that wouldn't really work. Why would Naryu be getting involved with the Prophet?

I think if you start in Morrowind and do the intro there, when you decide to go to the mainland you will lose your soul etc and then go through the intro there. It was mentioned somewhere, maybe by @ZOS_KaiSchober
That would certainly be a good way to do it. If you can find that post, that would be great!

Exactly. Base ESO is always included, meaning you can't buy Morrowind on its own.

Unfortunately, they removed the cinematic where you are sacrificed. I was so disappointed when I noticed it.

I know, but that was way back when they released Tamriel Unlimited. Even without it, you still get told by Lyris how you ended up in Coldharbour, so the lack of the cinematic alone doesn't really affect the start of the story. Sure it makes more sense to have the background that the cinematic presents, but without the Wailing Prison at all, the whole Prophet storyline would make no sense.
