Ashlands PvP updates and news

I decided to start a thread about the new PvP battleground system. I'll try to keep the OP updated with news and information as we get them, and would much appreciate the assistance of the awesome ESO community in sharing news, thoughts, and anything else about the new PvP.

Below is what I've found so far:
"Morrowind also introduces a new PvP mode for you to check out. You can head to the Ashlands to take on fellow players in exciting 4v4v4 battles in arena-like environments. These highly competitive fast-paced matches will feature your choice in a variety of game types across three different maps."
Lmar wrote:
"The three first battlefields are all in the new Morrowind region and are very different. A map is, for example, a quarry with open spaces - ideal for ranged. Another card is the opposite, as we are fighting in and around a twisted tower. After the first three battlefields, according to the developers, others will follow in other regions of the world. We can easily enter the battles at any time via battlefield browser and earn us booty and PvP points."

As it was said on stream Red Mountain is unaccessible but one of the arena will take place there. <3

We are very excited to offer new PvP possibilities with the introduction of 4v4v4 small-scale Battlegrounds in Morrowind. However, just because we are introducing Battlegrounds with Morrowind doesn't mean we are walking away from Cyrodiil. We consider open-world PvP to be separate from small-scale PvP, and we want to be sure that we offer - and fully support - both.

Please share your own thoughts and news about Ashlands :-)

For PvP in this game to become "highly competetive" there is a lot to do regarding balance issues first.
At the pace (and quality) ZOS has been adressing balance issues so far, i do not see that happening till June.

I'm hoping this brings some more close neat team based PvP where communication and complimentary builds are key to winning. I prefer that kind of PvP over solo builds that run around together with little synergy.

Will be interesting to see what gear is locked behind the mode and how hard it is to obtain, also the kind of challenge involved in achievements for this. As a completionist I don't want to see "reach #1 in the leader boards" or "win a season" style achievements which are very limited in access (like Emperor).

That's a very good point, and in fact the balance issues will probably become even more apparent on the smaller scale. There is a real danger that Ashlands PvP consist of nothing but cheese. But there is also a real possibility that it will consist of actually playable PvP.

I'm curious about pre-made groups, and what kind of rewards are won and how they are given out.

Other than that we will need some pretty big batches of popcorn to handle all the salt those will bring.

I would love for this to be some sort of currency that you can buy Ashlands specific gear with (sort of like IC I guess?). I don't mind a grind, as long as it's not senseless.

Yes, the salt will be real. But on the other hand it always will no matter what. People won't stop complaining about PvP regardless of game modes added or not added.

its going to be just like cyro, 3 templar tanks who spam BoL and 1 nb bomber who fears EoTs and runs away. Completely boring but in smaller grp versions

But with lower ping though, haha!

Your concern is totally valid, and it's definitely a danger of this game mode.

What could be done to counter act this? Like only one of every class on every team or something maybe?

I think this would be fine. Other MMO's have run token systems which works well and it means you get what you're after for partaking in the content on a regular basis.
Although ZOS has been against this (as shown with AP/TV) as they don't like the idea of players saving up enough points to buy into new seasons of gear right away.

Also I would hope they don't go down the route of arena specific bonuses meaning you need to use gear from that content in that content above all others. It would benefit more from entirely open gear sets to help metas change faster and a rock paper scissor style of builds rather than one build beats all.

Yeah I know tokens are not really their style. I actually think the WoW model of having a cap on currency works well so you can only save up for one or two pieces of new gear.
And I get where you are coming from with the arena specific gear, but to me a little bit of this could go a long way towards feeling like progress is being made in a specific game mode. Something like "more damage to players" or "less damage from players".

    What needs to happen is:

    1. Balance.

    2. A vendor that gives you a starter pack of items that can be used in Battlegrounds. No other items can be used in the match.

    3. If you win you get tokens, if you loose you get less tokens.

    4. Pvp lvl's. when you ding you can purchase new items with tokens.

    Everything else will fail.

They could go down the GW2 route where nothing but class matters. Gear is separate and free, respecs are free and the only progression is cosmetic. Don't know if I would like this but it seems effective when trying to create balance.

This is good news. I'm assuming that battlefields will be a base game addition? And, "booty"?

I think the word "booty" is a helpless google translate from the German version. The appropriate term is probably loot.
I also hope that the arenas coming after the first 3 will be accessible to anyone, if nothing else to increase the amount of people who can enjoy this game mode.
