Aoe skills disappear when enemy dies

Not sure if this happens to anyone else. Last night in the sewers I saw 3 Npcs. Casted a Nova on the group. When the closest enemy died from the initial hit it disappeared. I was fighting the other npc when I noticed it wasn't there anymore. Happens with other Aoe Dots. Mainly Wall of Elements. Will do other testing later this week but it's difficult to upload from ps4 to phone to forums. Anyone else notice this?
