Before I buy houses I want to know what exactly do i do with them??

I really don't see a point of spending so much gold or crowns on houses, they have no use except you know the feeling of having a house. All the crafting stations can be found for free in every city and not many people are really gonna visit you in your house because there is just no point to it. The training skeleton is an ok bonus which was needed but it can made in the smallest house to the biggest.

If the houses are away from popular places there is no point to go there, just porting for no reason.

I guess Guilds can have their guild manor just as a luxury and then guild members will actually meet there, but for individuals it feels kind of useless.

Is there something I am not seeing about housing?

For the initial release these are just cosmetic things which offer you something to spend gold, resources and time working on.

They did mention on ESO Live that they will continue to build on the feature and add more to it over time, with that might come mechanical benefits to owning a house.

    *Edit.

I believe I did hear about crafting stations being installed, so if true it might be somewhere to have all your crafting (banking and merchant via crown NPCs) in one place.

I want housing for my test dummy. I also wouldn't mind having a tavas or other crafting station available at ease to help guildies. It might also be nice to duel with friends without someone saying "xposed" or trying to interrupt a fun time with mud balls or glitched healing.

I'm an end game pver but I definitely spend forever dyeing my costumes. :D I imagine housing will be a nice cosmetic time kill while waiting for trial groupings.
I hope for storage cases or armor stands in the future. This is just the foundation- who knows what they might add. I'm going to remain hopeful about it all.

    What houses offer:
    - dps test dummy (needs to be acquired first from Master crafting writs)
    - set crafting stations (acquired also from Master writs if I'm not mistaken; need to be attuned at a specific crafting station before placing it)
    - Access to assistants if the owner has placed them (each one takes up 1 collectible slot [in a manor you can place up to 10 collectibles]; nobody can summon any assistant while in a player house so if a guest has an assistant but the house owner does not or did not place it that guest will actually have lost access to their assistant and have less functionality while inside that player's house):
    • Banker assistant: personal bank access (but no access to guild bank or guild store)
    • Merchant assistant: buys items and sells a small selection of very basic consumables (but no repair function!)
    • Smuggler assistant: buys stolen items (but cannot launder or clear your bounty)

What houses don't offer (but are some of the most important functions you can find in any major town):
    - Guild bank access
    - Guild store access
    - Repair function
    - Stablemaster NPC
    - Wayshrine or free ports (porting to any wayshrine from a player house costs gold)
    - Fence that can launder and remove your bounty
    - Shadowy Supplier

Edit: Don't underestimate how much fun decorating a house and garden can be though (and how much time it consumes before you notice it :) And having a private instance you personally decorated where you can meet with friends and guild mates is really nice even if you don't use it that often).

people mention craft stations, but there is no actual craft stations in housing. the craft station you get is a mere cosmetic that looks like the ones from skyrim. all you can do is turn the coals on and off. cannot actually craft. on top of that even if you could be pointless, shornhelm has basic craft stations within short distance of the bank. no need for you to have a house to do what you can already do in towns like shornhelm.

You think like most players OP.

Rather than making housing a fun project that everyone can use (such as Hearthfire from Skyrim) they've turned it into an impossibly grindy cosmetic for the Crown Store.

There is only 1 thing that Housing adds to the game which truly can benefit (some) players, which is the target dummy.

If you aren't into spending hours upon hours each day for months and tens of millions of gold, or hundreds of dollars in Crowns, you won't have a nice house

When ESO Housing was announced I was so happy I subbed for three months to have some Crowns to spend.

Then came the news that there was no Storage.
Then came the insultingly gouging Crown Prices for unfurnished houses.

At that point I decided that what little "house RP" I do could happen in the free Inn room we can get.

And my main engagement with Housing will be crafting furniture to sell.

For Housing in a modern MMO, I would expect the following as "baseline" features:
    - Storage - with option to pay (In-game currency AND/OR store bought) for upgrades.
    - Some form of "trophy" display ability
    - An ability to "port" to any Capital City Wayshrine for Free.

I would then expect at launch to have the following options either to be unlocked or purchased:
    - Guild Bank access (perhaps needing to be unlocked by the Guild first).
    - Guild Store access (perhaps needing to be unlocked by the Guild first).
    - Stablemaster
    - Repair Function

Anything that can't deliver that is a) Not really a functioning Housing System in a modern Triple A MMORPG, and b) not worth wasting money (in-game or real) on.

They're just playing catch up. Housing has been planned since launch. If housing were a part of this game from day one as is would people be this adamant about it?

I still think it's a cash grab. I am grinding hard farming mats to sell. I made 600k in four days. I will not spend a cent in that crown store unless it's DLC. Also, it's convenient housing is being released around tax time huh ;)

Only reason I'll be getting a house is entirely for the Training Dummy.

I care about utility more than anything and really the only utility Housing offers at this time is the Dummy. All the cosmetic stuff really doesn't appeal to me in any way. I might make whatever furniture to fill up the emptiness of my house a little but I'm not going out of my way to get them.

Not sure if zenimax thought this through at all, or having a massive plan with this game.

I am 100% sure that they are looking at statistic data, and not from players experience.
Most accounts are players who have not reach end game and trials, and therefore they make their patch towards that. Also, it is very easy to combine housing with crown store, then is it to combine an end game trial, dungeon or pvp with crown store.

The thing they are clearly doing wrong tho, are the fact they think majority of players count more then the loyal once. I think they should start looking at playtime instead of each account compared to eachother. For example, I have 190 days played on only one character, which is far more then many accounts added together out there. And they still look at every account and take those into consideration when they make a major update decision. This is why we don't get more bank space btw :)

1- The RP value of it. No more trolls, and so much more possible depth into each of my characters.

2- Attunable crafting stations. No more annoying voyages in wrothgar for Julianos, Bangkorai for NMG, or passing fields of daedra north of the old tower wayshrine for Hunding's. Also, if I wanted to, I could get the imperial city ones and never fuss about that again.

3- Duels. Ever dueled on top of a massive, questionably sound of structure stone pillar with flames surrounding you? At the very least, it's easier and less laggy to fight.

4- Right now, storage is not a feature. I have every expectation that it will be, eventually.

When was those other crafting stations ever annoying? Also, you cannot craft sets or deliver / pick up writs at your home.
Can't remember duels being laggy in pve zones either, unless you for some roleplay reason have to duel in the middle of deshaan pledge spot in the most crowded times. If you have time to travel to your home, you have time to travel to a dead spot in another zone as well.

Agree with op, dps skeleton and thats it.

But statistical data doesn't lie. Numbers don't. However, many players just go with the 'main thought' of the week without even bothering to check if it's true or not.

Houses may not be an update some players want but it doesn't mean others don't. And it's funny because it's the same with the changes for radiant. So many players clamour for the change in the ability and when it did come, there was an uproar as well.

One tamriel was an update that so many wanted prior to launch of the game. It was suppose to be like this at the start but the development decided that it wasn't to be that way and stuck with veteran zones. Then when it came, people complain about one t being wrong for the game and how it casualize the game.

You know what happened with garrisons in wow? People stopped playing the game and played house, without even stepping foot out to quest. Some zones went dead, even with all the population wow had. People then complained wow became this click game within a game with npcs even doing the farming for you.

It's one thing to have functionality in houses, it's another when housing takes over the game. Housing might need a few more tweaks but that's why you need statistics to decide which is better for housing. In time, we might even have dungeon or trial portals in housing itself.

Be positive. Think about this patch as a base, or a platform for ZoS to further improve housing functionality. Instead of just complaining about stuff.

For me it is literally just a space to decorate.

Which is ok, I think it will be fun buying decorations as I come across them and slowly building up a complete home. But it means I'm not nearly as excited as other people, and don't really understand the hype. I certainly wouldn't buy a house with real money. (Well, maybe if the one I wanted was £5 I'd consider it.)

But as something to do with gold other than storage and horse upgrades it's ok.

Just too many if's for my liking. Not knocking you for placing all that faith in ZoS, it's just a case of me thinking the devs are so out of touch with their player base that I think they don't warrant any sort of trust or faith placed in them to provide us with meaningful features.

This is a totally misleading statement, @AzuraKin ... have you been in PvP this whole month and not been reading any other forums besides PvP? ;)

Crafting stations that you put in your house are totally usable. They can be generic ... such as a basic enchanting station or blacksmith craft station to make vanilla gear and weapons. They can also be attunable ... meaning you can copy any craftable 5-piece set table in Tamriel and place it in your house (to make the 5-piece or vanilla gear).

For example, below is a screenshot of an Armor Master attunable smithy I placed in my PTS Twin Arches house front yard near Hallin's Stand.

Note, there was a brief issue where you had to leave the instance one time before using the attunable station to craft gear ... but that was since fixed in PTS patch 2.7.1.

They do plan to add additional functionality in the future.

Saying that the devs "are so out of touch with their player base" is a stretch.
