Question: Why do people hate the way ESO sustains itself?

    @117Dios

Actually, I find your title a bit too ... excessive, I like all these feature you described, and probably many players do.

In fact, I think the crown store - which progressively filled up in time - is a nice alternative, and people who want to spend money in it can. I must stress that it came to replace the old system of paying a monthly fee. I m pretty glad to not pay anymore the monthly fee after all the issues I had during the game launch in 2014 (i got somehow stuck in my leveling for a month, haha). In particular, I can't understand why people complain about Crates - it's a lottery, and guys, by definition you have a high chance of losing when playing lottery. I can't wait for housing - maybe I think it should have been here for the start, but hey, I'm not gonna complain - and other content upgrade to come.

As I said in other posts, the current version we have of TESO is the best so far since 2014.
Of course, there is room for improvements, and I hope players will suggest constructive ideas, rather than complain^^

    Best to all!
    Koros

don't really care about the B2P system. It gives a revenue stream while allowing less affluent players to enjoy the game. Nothing in the crown store is a necessity to compete at the highest level.

The housing is cool if you are a roleplayer, but an utter waste otherwise. I don't see it being worth the gold or crowns. But, then again I'm not a rp'er.
I've spent more money than I would've liked on this game, but in the end it's only money.

My only complaint has been their refusal to acknowledge that the server issue was caused by them. Design an awesome combat system without the ability to process it under heavy load.

I can say though, the day this becomes ptw, I'm out.

Because ESO spends more time sustaining its profits than sustaining the actual game.

If they actually fixed issues and if the game worked fine I could care less about how much time and effort they spend on the crown store. If the game actually worked properly I would buy things from the crown store to support the game! :open_mouth:

Exactly, Swtor forgot what the game was completely about, focused way to much on the cosmetic / cartel market that they have no effort in adding new instances / raids. They haven't had a new instance or raid for the past 2 years cause of the CM.

People complain because they fall for fake news! Fake news that ESO is failing. Fake news that all development is focused on crown store and crown crates and that the rest of the game is being neglected, etc.

A complainer will complain no matter what is read or heard
The person will interpret everything the way he wants it to be, to justify complaining, because it doesn't suit #1

ESO will continue to get better. At least for those of us that actual play the game and enjoy it.

I don't believe anyone is asking for "free". People are asking for the opportunity to BUY items instead of gamble for them, yes. Buying for a reasonable price would be nice, too.

Personally, I would like to *buy* the black mane lion and red pit wolf mounts. I want a fixed price. If the "lady" in charge wants to price them like the elk or dro'mathra senche, fine. There is a price, and I can decide to buy it or not. As opposed to spending $300+ dollars to get either the mounts I want, or enough duplicate junk I didn't buy and don't want to trade for gems to buy them.

Never asked for free. Asked for compitent and for the company to stop mucking up PVE for one reason to another, and maybe hire people who know what their doing.

People are worried that more time will be spent developing items to put into the crown store than time is spend on new content.

There is also the fear that gameplay will be slowly altered in a way that forces players to make cash shop purchases to progress. I'm not talking about having to buy new DLCs or having ESOplus, but something such as not being able to upgrade gear without spending real money, or grinding constantly, at a hindered pace, for the next 3 years straight.

If ZOS had succeeded in their original plan to retain millions (or whatever number they needed to be financially successful) of paying subscribers, they wouldn't have felt the need to go B2P / F2P.

Games only move from paid game and subscription only to cheap (as in ESO can be picked up for <$10) B2P or fully F2P because they fail to hit their financial goals.

So what we have now is a game / studio that failed to meet its financial targets with a business model based on a paid subscription game with ongoing content updates falling back to plan B, C, D and whatever alternative business model they want to try this week to make up for their failure.

Is it any wonder that some of the ways they try to monetize the game with alternative business models (moderate cash shop, high priced cash shop, gamble boxes) will tick off players who came to this game when it was pitched as an all-inclusive paid subscription game?

Is it any wonder that some players fear what may come next - after all ZOS failed with the subscription model, what makes anyone confident the current iteration of the B2P cash shop will succeed, and if it doesn't, what next, F2P with P2W and nothing but re-skinned art assets for rent masquerading as content?

I don't care about how ZOS makes their money. I care about where that money goes because as the game progresses, it feels like less and less money is being put into the game and more is being used to pretty up the Crown Store. I honestly don't see myself staying with ESO much longer if it continues honestly. I've already transitioned back almost entirely to FF14 at this point with what little bit of time I do play ESO solely devoted to helping out Guild Mates
    Argonian forever
