FWIW you can't misdirect a mob on someone else. The only way you can get aggro is if you are in their aggro range and not stealthed, or you hit it when someone else had it near by. If they ran past so far that the mobs leashed back to their spawn location they wont aggro on anyone along the way until they get "home" (even if you try to hit them) at which point aggro opens up again and can aggro on anyone within their aggro range.

So one of a couple possibilities.

OP was standing too close to a spawn point. Not other players fault.
OP was standing too close to a spawn point where some other player was engaged in the fight. Mob cast some sort of aoe ability that hit OP and OPs armor proc'd a damage skill that hit the target. Not other player's fault.

OP should have AFK'd somewhere else.

It's probably just a semantics thing. If you aggro a mob with an AOE attack and go stand next to the AFK player, I would still call that training a mob on someone. However, you are also getting attacked and have to keep yourself alive.

None of that changes the fact that you should stealth out of range of NPCs before you go AFK.

That does bring up a question, though. What if you are AFK and stealthed, but I get aggro on an NPC and walk next to you? The stealth doesn't stop the AOE, right?

It sort of IS possible to kill an AFK player with mobs. You just gotta draw some AoE using enemies so they'll get the hapless snoozer in their red ground while you dodge out, rinse, repeat... and hope they don't come back before they are dead. ut that takes quite a bit of work, so its far more likely the other mentioned possibilities are what happened.
You can see that in the death recap - if its death by AoE skills only, then it likely was some player kiting them, if they also go with other attacks, then its one of the other two mentioned.
But in any case, you go AFK, you take your chances.
Kinda wish we had a "pants lowered and doing busines behind a bush" emote for that, in hopes of getting some pity, or at least laughter instead of slaughter, but sadly... :p
    Oh, well.
We game, we AFK, we respawn, we game again... ;)

@ZOS_JohanaB you didn't guess the soup. I feel we need some official ZOS soup guessing in this thread.

? You were AFK, how do you even know what actually happened?

Anyways, this happens. You just need to use 1 soul gem (or 0 if you have the passive).

Every time I go AFK I always sneak and stay in a corner, sometimes I come back and I am dead, but most of the times I am still alive.

Everybody apparently wants to know the flavor of the soup I heated up while this unfortunate thing was going on.

So, for the record, it was tomato soup with chicken mixed in.

Anyway, I threw some awesomes, insightfuls, and agrees down some people's chimneys after reading through the thread.

And I will take your advice and start sneaking next time.

I think nothing more needs to be said here. Arena25 out!

Man, the irony here is that the forum post will have wasted more of your time on this earth than the inconvenience of your afk ending.

Perhaps reconsider what you allow to rile yourself up.

I would just like to point out that it is actually impossible in ESO for a person not in your group to "train mobs on to you" to kill you. Unless you were AFK within the original aggro space of the mobs, they would never suddenly shift their target to you.

I believe I have learned my lesson.

As the OP of this thread, I wish this thread closed.

@arena25 if you report your own thread (first post) with a "As OP discussion is finished, please lock" the mods are pretty good about doing it.

Since the conversation seems to have no where else to go and nothing more constructive can probably be said that hasn't already been said we will close this thread per OPs request.
