Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• [COMPLETE] ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)

Heartwood, Regulus, Etc. should come from hireling mail, refining raw materials, etc.

Alternatively, we should get one material per resource node, guaranteed. And something else needs to be done for Decorative Wax. These resources are way too scarce and everyone knows it.

I agree, and I sent this in as /feedback on the PTS. The hirelings are pretty much worthless as they are so they might as well help us out a bit with the new crafting mats.

I'm not buying a four dollar cup either so that's a moot point. ;-) I'd be happy to buy things from the Crown Store that are, you know, actually unique. Heck I might even buy a bunch of the plants for gardening, we'll see. Those aren't the worst-priced things in the world. And I'm also buying the houses themselves with Crowns. And either way it's not inappropriate to push back a bit on the matter.

I'm not disagreeing with you, just pointing out the motivation for keeping these things scarce.

I would love to get this stuff in hireling mails.

I see the point, but they shouldn't stretch it too far. Making a purple chair near impossible to craft, then ask 400 crowns for said chair... ha! No thanks.
My visitors can sit on their "/chair" emote.

When you delve into something like Enodoc's Furniture Crafting Plans Dataset it actually doesn't make sense for anything, ever.

Diagram: High Elf Goblet, Winged INGREDIENTS Regulus (11), Alchemical Resin (7), Decorative Wax (8), Adamantite (35), Grain Solvent (3)

Diagram: High Elf Brazier, Winged INGREDIENTS Regulus (13), Mundane Rune (9), Heartwood (8), Adamantite (45), Rakeipa (18), Grain Solvent (3)

Nearly the same cost for Regulus and similar costs for other hard-to-get materials, but the brazier is the size of a people while the cup is the size of a banana. Nothing about the constructions costs makes sense no matter what angle you tilt your head. Oh and both the cup and the brazier cost $4 in the Crown Store even though anyone can see that the items don't have nearly the same net aesthetic impact. Everything about the cost system looks thrown together with absolutely zero oversight or reality checking.

They are supposed to drop from normal crafting nodes. Or, in the case of decorative wax, which is for the provisioning skill line, this drops from all containers which give provisioning ingredients.

It's PTS and it may be such beacause only small portion of the playerbase is there.
Global/server wide generation of those is what matters not individual.

I must completely disagree based on, like, basic mathematical induction. Unless they change the drop rates, such as to 100%, this abysmal chance of getting materials is going to apply to everyone farming for them. Every individual is going to have the exact same crap opportunity of getting the new materials. This means the whole server is, collectively, going to have a crap chance of getting the materials.

Now maybe you're suggesting that since some people won't craft furniture, they'll sell these materials and that will contribute to global supply. While true, there is also a limit on availability since nodes are scarce and aren't usable by everyone at the same time. This is quite unlike other kinds of farming, such as farming monsters and dolmens and dungeons for items. Everyone who gets a tag gets loot, so there is generally an abundance of resource availability. Not so here, especially at the scale of resources required and the scarcity of those resources.

This competition for available nodes, combined with the exclusivity of acquisition methods, means that even if people want to farm their own resources, which is not an unfair goal to have, they are limited in ability to do so. If they buy from pro farmers then they are operating at a loss, draining away excess gold when you'd expect a greater share of it to be going towards crafting gear and other combat-relevant items. This is not a situation you find with other systems in the game, as all resources except Nirncrux are incredibly easy to get, can be acquired from multiple game systems like node hunting, deconstruction, and hireling mail, and generally drop in large quantities.

Finally, and perhaps most concerning, is the potential for a large increase in farm bots. This hasn't been an issue as much with Rubedite and other nodes because a bot needs to be leveled to even get those resources, and they are in any case quite abundant so it's hard to make money off of it. With the new resources, though, they're going to be rare, obtainable from every node, and since there's competition for nodes there's way more opportunity to make a real-life buck selling it on those naughty websites.

Let me bold that point to make it more clear: the current system will make gold sellers and farm bots come back in force.
