I believe in lore and it's why we need unicorn mounts and costumes.

Honestly don't care, it's nice to have, but not something to look into.
I am happy that it exists as it gives the game breadth and depth along with a sense of a taking place in a 'real' world - and having played some decent games that had no depth and little lore, I can appreciate the value lore brings to the overall game.

That said, I do not think game play should take a back seat to lore - game play must always come first - if the game play sucks, no one will care about the story.

Oh and faux lore stuff like using crappy hard to read fonts in your add-on because lore / immersion drives me nuts.

The lore is a big part of what I like about TES. I like many of my other favourite games for the same reason, they've drawn me in and gotten me interested in this virtual world and now I want to explore it and learn more so I keep playing.

And unlike some people I actually really like the inconsistencies. It makes it more realistic and adds and extra layer of depth, where you can compare the different accounts and realise that no one really knows (or no one believes the people who know). It also adds some character to what could be quite dry historical accounts when it's affected by the authors bias (and sometimes includes their thoughts on other peoples interpretations).

    What's the lore?

There are two factions controlled by Kings who can't seem to help themselves much so thank goodness you came along.

The third is ruled by a hot blonde who rules over a realm of drugged felines who are at the mercy of moon phases.

Ok. Let me clear on my first comment about Lord Nerevar being Indoril not Redoran.

First, the book i am refering is in tribunal temple by the centurion puzzle in the city of mournhold.

Next, this is Lord Nerevar i am talking about. The greatest hero of Chimer (currently known as dunmer). He was not just a member of indoril. He was the leader of house indoril. He was the husband of (false) god almalexia. Confusing or misinforming about any npc is ok. But saying he was not indoril is something different like vercingetorix was actually a roman not gaul.

Anyway there are some other issues with lore also. Like someone pointed some books shouldnt have written yet(some of them are mage guild lore books) but over all the lore in this game is not bad at all. I enjoy the TES lore in this game but still i am dissapointed when i see an error.

    You're talking about this aren't you @maltinkilic:
    Great House Mottos
by Vilyn Girith (personal notes by Sotha Sil)

This is an annotated version of Mottos of the Dunmeri Great Houses.

To my son, whose inability to remember even these simple facts embarrasses our family at every opportunity. This is to inform you of the words the great houses of Vvardenfell live and breathe by, and the saints they hold as their patrons, representative of their goals and motives. If you ever again confuse the Hlaalu and Dres merchant nobles with whom we trade, I will disown you three and ten times, and once again to make the deed final and eternal.

(the fact that a primer of this sort is required at all indicates lapses in Temple indoctrination curricula—must delegate a canon to investigate and propose reforms)

House Redoran: "A Redoran is a warrior whose duty is first to the Tribunal, second to House Redoran, and third to family and clan."

    - Saint Nerevar the Captain is the patron saint of House Redoran.

(re-check Temple texts about death of Nerevar—can't be too careful on that)

House Indoril: "Justice knows no sleep: Indoril shall order, the Temple shall judge."

    - Saint Olms the Just is the patron saint of House Indoril.

House Hlaalu: "To trade fairly and freely is to honor the Three."

    - Saint Veloth the Pilgrim is the patron saint of House Hlaalu.

House Dres: "To spread culture and truth to the benighted: this is our commitment and burden."

    - Saint Llothis the Pious is the patron saint of House Dres.

(must point this out to Vivec; it will tickle his sense of irony)

House Telvanni: "The forceful expression of will gives true honor to the Ancestors."

    - Saint Vorys the Immolant is the patron saint of House Telvanni.

You will likely not note the lack of an ascribed motto to the sixth house, the shadow house, house Dagoth. This is because that house is extinct, destroyed at the Battle of Red Mountain, after which the remaining Houses built the Temple to the Tribunal. If you ever mention this house in polite company, I will disown you.

You will note that twice, now, I have threatened to disown you. This is because my hands are not so black as Mephala's or Lord Vivec's. My heart is too weak to simply remove you from my family.

Keep this text on you at all times, and let it shame you for every reference you make to it in your dealings with our nobility. Spare our lineage the greater shame of your own foolishness. May I never have cause to call you s'wit in public again.

This is a subject that is near and dear to me. I also would never have played ESO if it wasn't a Elder Scrolls game. But let's look at the History of TES Lore.
TES I was Arena. It was started as a generic hack and slash game, but during development, they found that the quest's and exploration was much more fun and interesting on a D&D level of gaming. Enter Michael Kirkbride and the birth of Elder Scrolls lore. That was in 1994. We now have 23 years of rich and in depth lore that even Tolkien would appreciate.

This lore has expanded and grown and is the main draw in all 10 TES single player games.
Those who say the lore is broke and inconsistent, well you are right. In school I was taught Columbus Discovered America. Ton's of books say this, but other books say other wise. That is the beauty of Tamrielic history. It varies by the author.

In ESO alone there are 3,087 books that you can actually read! That's incredible in any game. There are 54 Tamrielic Holidays. An actual Calendar and Many Millennia of history.
We also are blessed to have the current Loremaster, Sir Lawrence Shick, who by the way, worked with Gary Gygax on the original D&D.

For those who wish to learn more about the depth of TES lore I suggest the following..
    https://www.imperial-library.info/
And the whole "ShoddyCast" lore series.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-chDClmdos&list=PL7pGJQV-jlzCPBUy9uAXQUXZ4UBaDLKS5

These are IMO the best on the subject.
Huzzah and Salutations to all the "LoreWarriors" out there!
Now, back to Tamriel I go!

Speaking of lore, I do find most of the books in ESO to be pretty lackluster compared to the single-player TES games.

It's an MMO, so I understand they did not want many long reads, but all the books I have found are usually only a few pages at most. This would be fine if they were good reads, but many I find uninteresting. Still, pretty crazy there are over 3,000 things to read in the game.

If that's the one you're talking about then it's not a matter of the source being wrong or unreliable, it's a matter of you not understanding what the source says. It says Nerevar is the patron saint of Redoran. Not that he was ever part of House Redoran. Him being the patron saint of the house means that the house has selected him as the saint who most represents their ideals. As a rule you can't become the patron saint of anything until after you're dead anyway.
