There was a video of Quakecon in 2014 (yes, I know that was a long time ago, and things can change), where ESO laid out their spellcrafting system:

Jump to about 52:50 minutes in the video to see what, at the time, was going to be the spellcrafting system.

I really hope they come out with this, it looks awesome! Come on, ZOS you had the spellcrafting foundational system finished 3 years ago!

    Woah..

Why is this not in the game!! :open_mouth:
Dovahkiin, Dovahkiin, naal ok zin los vahriin,

Ahrk fin norok paal graan fod nust hon zindro zaan,

I didn't play that video but in the still image shown it looks like the guy on the right and the guy in the back are asleep. Not a good sign.

If people actually watched the QuakeCon spiel about it; it's not like legitimate spellcrafting. In fact, it's akin to how the Enchanting system works, at least what was shown all that time ago.

That being said, it's on the backburner indefinitely. Until there's an actual developer on the team aside from Wrobel that knows how to actually balance and not call skills of the game his 'children', it'll probably remain there indefinitely until it's cancelled.

Yea I do not think it will be what people are expecting, for one something like spellcrafting will be much harder to balance in an mmorpg.

I really hope they revisit this. Even the "bounded" system (essentially enchanting/alchemy for spells) as presented would spice up the game with a bunch of new abilities.

Except for weapon ultimates and a few swap-outs, we've had no new active abilities since launch and it's getting dull.

Not really soon. Matt said it's probably weeks away.

    Months*

Matt Firor: Seriously, you’ll see it in another couple of weeks.

Sure "weeks" can be months but I think it's rather 3 than 10 weeks away.

It's realistic to think....after update 13 hits consoles in terms of weeks so more than 3 but less than 10

Ok so everyone is clear. See the man in this video speaking on spell crafting. This is Paul Sage he was the creative director , he no longer works for Zeni max him and few others on this panel were ESO. game designers and post launch planners. They are the ones that were making MMO in ESO. most of them were let go or left on their own power to develop games they wanted to make. If you have not noticed since ESO went B2P the game has been completely revamped. It is now less of a MMO and more of the Hybrid model Matt Fior has wanted to make.

Spell crafting, changes to the CP system and anything the would enrich ,expand or add layers into the game play are hard to do, require passion and tons of MMO experience. ESO post production team now is focused on status qo and making money effciently and cheaply.

ESO's team is not focused on those things. They have already stated what their intentions with ESO are. They are focused on small quarterly DLC's and Crown crate items. They have already stated it many times. all this talk of huge expansions , class, trials, and game expanding systems like jewel crafting and spell crafting are not in ESO's near future. and will definately be stretched out over years if those data mining threads have any validity. The person designing spell crafting left or was fired with paul sage as well as many of the other post launch brain trust.

Enjoy ESO for what it is , a online RPG. its not a true MMO like you would see following a formula post production. the game is being developed for the B2P F2P market that enjoys buying asthetics and casual content that does not require much commitment.

Well obviously ESO needed Nick and spell crafting needed it. because it would be in game now . ESO's team does not exist in the fashion it used to lead devs like Sage Konkle and many others are key to a games progress. If you follow the MMO game industry you will know one guy can make a huge difference.

Just ask Trion about Scott Hartsman or Sony EQ2. One key dev holding talent and experience makes huge difference in a game direction. ESO lost 3 or 4 leads.

@Wifeaggro13 to be honest game now is in far far better state it was after launch. Vision that initial lead team had was a complete disaster, if you ask me. Remember what we had in the beginning? Progression was completely linear, even after you got lvl 50 you had to play zones in strict order and you were unable even to change alliance you would like to go to. Dungeons and trials did not drop any good loot, there were absolutely no motivation to go there more than once (a shame really, because every dungeon in this game is a masterpiece). Craglorn was a complete failure with all this vet level requirements and phasing issues. To be honest the only rewarding endgame content we had was Cyrodiil (which was almost obligatory, because guild traders and high lvl craft materials were only there). The only good part of it is that there were no lags in Cyro
So I am not surprised these guys were fired (ah, sorry, left for new opportunities). And lucky we are that console release gave enough money to fix the issues (One Tamriel alone is close to remake half of the game from scratch). Sure, with this amount of work all huge scale game changers like spellcrafting were delayed and frozen (but not cancelled). The only cancelled system we know about is PVP part of justice system.

We have a difference of opinions in some reguard sure. Yes the game was in a state of a launch MMO. Itemization was poor, The three faction system was fail i do agree. The balance was not any different then it is now in all honesty. Though one Tam had some great features it Devalued and reduced end game content to only VR trials. The dungeons are just 4 dps with self heals more then ever, the meta is all DPS no matter the class . sure Viablity is that now hybrid builds can complete quests and enjoy the game but it was simply due to the watering down of game mechanics and the CP system.

They remade the game to fit their buisness model is all . They re designed the game to fit the B2P and crown store player, a Ultra churn player base and casual non premium player. truthfully if you follow game design at all you will know those people that moved on are some of the eliete in the industry hardly the garbage devs your painting them to be. For me the endgame VRdungeons were for more rewarding , they had teeth and required roles and skill. The itemization was infact as you stated poor. And many would argue that PVP was far better then too. Craglorn failed once everyone was max and had nothing else to do in all honesty. People used it as a VR power lvl zone then abondoned it due to no progression there and no reason or reward for doing it once you were VR 10. One of the best designed four mans in the game was shadda's tear and it had no itmeization it was missed opportunites for sure.

Phasing was a game design issue that quite frankly matt Fior was as responsible as anyone else on the team at the end of the day. And yes the game should be in a better functioning state post launch thats a given. For me and a large part of the premium population left the game . The game direction works great for the churn player , the barbie doll casual, and those that enjoy the Online RPG style game. I came to play an MMO and have found that part of the game lacking but they cant please everyone . so ZOS picked the easiest cheapest way to please a demographic that is profitable and low cost production.

I passionately disagree in terms of development and content.

The things shown in 2013 quake con and other events....most still hasn't been released.

People drastically desired the release of such content. Instead we've received Orsinium which can be argued as true dlc however it wasn't and still isn't complete. When those guys left the bugs and quirks were left broken and honestly a lot hasn't been fixed.

Instead we've seen a lot of changes and bandaids

I definately disagree that we're are in a better state. Let's not confuse QoL updates with content
