It was made in-game through text chat. She barely understood English so the guy exploited that, got the gold, and blocked her+ran away.
That guy was kicked from 3+ of his guilds for this (ours too).
And the girl who got scammed has been carried through vMoL now by me and some guildiessituation has been resolved, and I'm almost positive she got over half of the gold back (not totally sure about all the details).

I'm not trying to start another debate here, but i'm curious. If the scenario stays the same, but it is a guy who got scammed, would you have reacted the same? Like giving him over half his gold back, free carry etc. In the back of my head, I keep thinking people would just say "suck it up"/"stupid" and not really help. But I hope I'm wrong. Think about it.

I can't totally speak for others, but the consensus was that this was a really messed up situation so we wanted to help. A handful of players didn't even know it was a girl that they carried through the trial.
I run vMoL daily. This run was a must for me because someone legitamately needed help and we needed to make the pos who scammed her pay up/get kicked.
The victim's PSN wasn't even girly or anything.
So no, it had nothing to do with the victim being a girl. Someone who barely speaks English being scammed for 4M gold over a vMoL carry is a big deal. We wanted to help, so we did. No gold needed for that.

@Vaoh : that's what I tought : you're a nice guy ! (no irony included, you just did the right thing and that's nice).

She probably shouldn't have secured the transaction. No transaction requiring that much trust should even be attempted.
The only somewhat acceptable way to go about is is purchasing it through a trade guild. For example, I am in a top-end trade guild that auctions maw clears off from time to time. This is still a little risky, but trade guilds tend to rely on their auctions to survive, so being ripped off by a trade guild auction is unlikely.

Even just asking this says way more about you then those that helped her out.
Maybe she was naive to believe in the good of people or not to expect some jackass to rip her off in a videogame!
She maybe should've been on her guard more and make sure the person is trustworthy, i'm sure she won't make that mistake again.

3) The scammer had a decent reputation amongst the community and was a longtime player. There was plenty of reason to trust him and basically none to doubt him. He was also a part of a lot of high end PvE guilds that ran vMoL daily such as our guild (who ended up carrying her for free).
This player was not someone that I'd think would be a scammer.

Yes, you're missing the timeline.
Guy was/looked trustworthy *before* this scam happened.
He was kicked from 3+ guilds *after*/*because of* this scam.

Well let's get the situation straight.....
1) She barely spoke English. Completing a transaction like this was difficult to go though with in the first place. She needed to get her message across without complicating stuff.
2) She was talking to someone representing one of the best PS4 NA guilds for PvE. Any guild that regularly pulls off vMoL carries tends to be trustworthy. There are few of these on PS4.

1. What does English have to do with anything I said. If it can't fit in the trade window a player should automatically be wary of trying to trade large amounts of gold for it.
2. I said going through a trader is still risky. A representative isn't good enough. It should have been the guild leader not a representative.
3. Reputation doesn't matter when dealing with that much gold. I wouldn't even give Rich Lambert 4 mill up front for a Maw skin.

The entire purpose of the skins (vmol, SotH dungeons) is to show off your accomplishment. How could you even be happy having it, knowing you didn't earn it? So many people on console cheesed the dungeon skins by scaling it down. I think that's a shame. Same as paying for vma carries. Shows off just how much of a scrub you are, and that's about it.

Did you fully read my comment? It wasn't an insult to you in the slightest, but rather a clear description of her side of the transaction since it was a special case. You sound so triggered over nothing
If you don't agree that's cool. Practically everyone else does and I'm happy at how things turned out in the end as well.
