Just rolled a stamplar...was it a bad choice?

So I just rolled a stamplar because it's the only class I haven't played yet, but now after reading about them a bit, I'm second guessing that it was a bad choice. I was hoping to get some more up-to-date information about them and where they stand, especially with the next update coming. So far I quite like him, he seems strong, but then again all characters feel that way until they hit CP ranks.

In what aspects are they strong, and what are the weaknesses? What's an effective rotation? Effective DPS gear setup? Where should I put CP? (I have 620-some odd).

I very rarely Pvp, I'm like 99% PVE, but if stamplars are best in Pvp I might be more willing to venture there.

I've seen Deltias build, but I was wondering if anyone out there with a stamplar could offer some advice?

Yup, very bad decision. It has no strengths at all. Just about everything it does can be done better on another class.

It's a popular forum thought that stamplar are bad at pvp. IMO, they are very underrated and are beasts if built right. I think too many people think they should be able to transfer over their glass cannon full damage mode builds that work on nightblades and sorcerers and try make them work on others (mdk) without actually building to that class.

Stamplars are strong in PvP. And they always have been. If you listen to the forums all the classes are bad lol

Lol dammit. Glad I asked before I put too much work into him. Is he worth keeping/shelving on the off chance that one day ZOS will make them viable again?

@Calboy I appreciate the input. In truth, I'm probably not the kind of person that pvps enough to make it worth the effort to make him a beast. And you're point about transfering over the glass cannon damage is exactly what I was aiming for lol. I was planning on building him just like my stam sorc, but it appears that won't work I guess.

@Bandit1215 what is it exactly that makes u say that?

Well for pve, they have no good passives to help them out like a stamsorc does with implosion, or a NB with crit bonuses and whatnot. I don't know much else other wise but I'm pretty sure @Alcast could elaborate more. Pvp wise, I've found that their biggest issue is resource management. Sure they have repentance but that implies you won't run out of resources before you get a kill and the amount that is actually returned from it is quite negligible. So if you stack more into resource management, you soon have the damage to take out people in this heavy armor meta, but if you stack damage, you'll run out dry before you can get a kill.

Stamplar dps is so bad, not even average to other classes when in bis gears. So I turned mine into top notch healer with magplar.

Stamplars are a bit weak compared to the other classes currently, but they are really fun to play, and they can certainly complete content.

Not to mention, with the way the game shifts things around all the time with "balance"... Well, you never know when" the weakest class" will suddenly become the strongest.

If you don't believe me, I will direct your attention to the StamSorc this patch. :)

Stamplar in pvp can be decent in right hands but the class as a whole has just been slowly nerfed into nothing. Everything that good player can do with a stamplar they would get better results with another class (except maybe magdk).

As far as pve my original character is a stamplar with a provern and tested gear set and rotation getting 35k dps every fight. However he is excluded from trial runs because of difference in resists (more a stamina issue vs templar issue) and sustain on long fights can tricky. Getting that 35k number took practice and timing working on my rotation. Other classes those numbers and beyond just came easier. Its my only character that has all golden gear and i generally only use it to craft and refine most the time.

@SolarCat02 I loves my stam sorc  your post makes me feel better about this whole thing though, so thank you for that!

@slayerwins I'm probably not the right hands for him at this point - I already have resource management issues with my magdk and I have no idea why.

Magicka Dragonknights have crap recourse management, so, with all due respect, it's not a surprise that you'd have problems with sustain. Although Stamplar could likely be worse, since they don't have something like Battle Roar.

Still, if you can play a MagDK in PvP successfully, you'll probably be at least competent with most other setups. If you can win drawn-out fights armed only with DoTs and lacking a reliable self heal and an execute, then imagine how hard you'd be to beat when you actually did have those things.
