Dropped because I hit message limit/spamming ?~!

I keep getting kicked off the server with an error message saying I've exceeded my message limit and should not spam mail. I've never sent a single mail to anyone in game yet. Anyone know what the deal is with this?

Same here. Just got kicked several times for this message when I haven't been talking in chat or sending mail. lol

Has been reported a lot over the last couple of days, Zenimax are aware of it but so far I've not seen a follow-up to the 'green' post in this thread:

Yep... just had massive lag, got kicked for "spam" and now seems the sever is down or something, eternal load screen...

I just had this happen also.

I literally signed on, performed one quest action and then was unable to interact with anything in the environment and was kicked with this message. It is 8am EST so not a great amount of folk are online at this point.

Someone annoying and I would like to see a formal comment on this. I have no idea if this would be something that came back to haunt me.

Just got kicked twice for spam, not going to log back in this morning, come on fix this stuff, I can handle a few bugs in quests and what not, but if something is going to ban me, then have to go through some process to get my account back for something I didn't even do, that is stupid. I wasn't sending mail, messaging, or zone chatting when it happened, just minding my own business and questing. I'm not the only one with this problem obviously. I sent the help ticket, we'll see how it goes. Just shut down your anti-spam BS until you can fix it, please and thank you.

same thing just happen to me got kicked for message limit and ive never sent a mail or chat text alot ever but got back on about 10 minutes later without reporting it

This happens when the server is lagging and you take too many actions without the server processing them quickly enough. Each action you take sends a "message" to the server, if it's lagging then all of a sudden it will see the 50 "messages" you sent all at once and kick you for spamming.

There are plenty of threads on the subject all the way back to the beta days.

There's two threads in just the last two days where i wrote the quote below:

The error message is misleading, it has nothing to do with you sending mail or chat messages.

It's your game client sending excessive messages to the game server.
Most likely caused by either an AddOn or simple client/server lag.
