Did Motifs Become Useless?

We need a transmog system. Every mmo have it!!

You already have it - welcome to the crown store!

But seriously, I bet they aint going to make transmog system because who will buy costumes then?!

I don't think those are mutually exclusive. The idea behind costumes should be to wear something can't you find with equipment in game. And even if that were the case, transmogrifying should be specific to gear and not costumes.

Ironically, now you'll need motifs you don't even want for Master Writs. I have a lot of full styles on my main character but on the PTS there were plenty of writs I couldn't do due to missing motifs. Ebonheart belts?! Hmm.

    this ^^
On PTS all 3 Master Writs I opened required Mercenary which I didn't have. I have it now on live as well Celestial. Seems a ZOS dev dropped the hint that chances of getting a Master Writ in our daily writs are improved by knowing more motifs. There's a motif gold rush going on now on PCNA, For example, my Imperial motif MM price is a whopping 75k but I only saw 2 on guild traders. Both 95k.

Basic game motifs (except nine racial) , not DLC or Crown Store are huge, crazy important when Homestead drops next month. For a list, open achievements General and then Crafting. Mercenary, Celestial, all 3 Alliance, Ancients, etc. Cheers.

I know what you mean, but how many will buy costumes, which are just one solid piece, when you can transmog every piece of armor out there and make you look like you want. Crown store costumes are not just shirt and troussers or evening dress, many of of them have look of armor.

I think that even if they lose sales from costumes in the crown store, the increase in sales from motifs and mimic stones will more than make up for it.

yep. I use costumes like Assassin (dyeable) to hide my hodgepodge mix of dropped gear. Otherwise, my toon would look like he'd visited the Kmart clearance aisle.

But then some crafter can buy motif and sell those armor pieces for gold to everybody - you dont need them to be max level with all necesary stats, you just need one white set piece for transmog. Of course they can make it "smart" to force everyone into crown store for transmogs, it is very believable with how they do these things lately.

As far as we know there is no rumours about transmog system and I have no faith in ZOS to be so generous and allow us use free armor system which could compete with their own crown store!

Motifs have a cosmetic value, but without something like "restyling" that allows you to change the current weapon style, they don't have too much of a value

Too bad this has been suggested since launch and it still hasn't arrived into the game

This is your second thread in a week commenting that motifs are useless.
Actually second thread in 3 days.

Unless your equipping weapons from drop sets your using then crafted sets are optimal for you. Equipping weapons that bring you nothing but the base stat is leaving horsepower behind.

Additionally, there are crafted sets that are optimal in certain cases/roles. NMG for one stam in the group, especially when there are multiple stam DD. Tavas is a fav of many tanks, especially DKs.

It appears the Search Function is viewed as the most useless thing nowadays.

So many motif threads about the same topic!

I personally love the Motif system and think it is very unique compared to a lot of MMO's. What I DO NOT love is all the decisions ZOS has enacted that make crafting obsolete:

    1. Easy to obtain endgame gear drops, making it far more appealing than crafting
    2. Superiority of most dropped sets vs the few useful crafted sets
    3. High resource investment for crafting, making sure nobody wants to craft new sets after they've already got one Legendary set.

    etc. etc.

A transmog system would be almost absurdly easy to monetize it if they were that afraid of a loss in profits. To start with, they could continue the trend of releasing Crown-only motifs, as well as putting some of the harder-to-get motifs in the Crown Store (Akaviri comes to mind here). I know for a fact that either of those would be great for profitability... if we currently had much use for motifs.

And it doesn't have to work the way you think it does. I think the most likely solution we'd see is allowing players to convert the style to a known one with a style gem or a mimic stone, and performing this action would bind the item to your account. If it worked that way, then I'd think the devs would even see a net profit, because now suddenly players are buying Crown Store motifs, almost all of which are priced higher than costumes.

If that's not enough, then they could make it so that style conversion requires 50 in that crafting skill--unless you use a mimic stone. Boom, you've just raised mimic stone sales among people who don't want to craft grind.

It's absurd to think that there'd be no money to make out of letting us change what our gear looks like.

Maybe the upcoming changes to procs will switch some people back to crafted sets and the need for motifs again. If you take procs out of the equation, I think the 5th piece bonuses on the better crafted sets top most of the dropped set.5 piece bonuses.

Then do a wardrobe system like lotor..

You have a wardrobe tab.. you must own the item to put it in to the tab.. when you have that wardrobe selected any item in it is superimposed on that slot on you character.

How Zenimax makes money off it.... they can make it you get 1 free wardrobe slot per character, ESO plus member get 2-3 per character. Then they can sell more wardrobe slots in the crown store.. lets say 1000 or 1500 crowns per extra slot for each character.

The whole crafting system is *** and has been for a while. Did a video, but the general consensus I came to find (that is from the community) is that they don't care. "Fix lag, perfectly balance the game first, etc."

To say ZoS wants to fix the crafting system (besides just adding more grinding to it to add more playtime to *** people off) anytime soon would be bordering a lie. After all, we're getting housing soon and the rate of Tempering Alloys is still *** poor as well as motifs becoming more and more useless.
