[BUG] WoE - Ancient Knowledge

Wall of Elements (and the morphs) doesn't give you the new ancient knowledge buff for fire and shock staffs. Means, when u've slotted the ability, your singletarget skills (firestaff) or your aoe-skills (shockstaff) don't get buffed. All other destro skills are fine (even the ulti/drain)

edit: bug is only a visual one, dmg-log is correct!

Ehm, the buff doesn't require you to slot an ability, it just requires you to use a staff of the respective element doesn't it? Or did I get that wrong?

You must have at least one Destruction Staff skill slotted on active bar to get Ancient Knowledge buff:
Ancient Knowledge: This passive ability no longer decreases the cast time of your Destruction Staff Heavy Attacks by 5/10%. Instead, it grants you a bonus as long as you have one Destruction Staff ability slotted. This bonus depends on your staff type:

Flame Staves: Increases your single-target damage dealt by 4/8%.
Frost Staves: Increases the amount of damage you Block by 10/20%, and reduces the cost of Block by 15/30%.
Lightning Staves: Increases your Area of Effect damage dealt by 4/8%.

Does it work even if you don't wield a Destruction staff? I.e. if you slot a destruction staff ability on your overload bar, does that increase the single target or aoe damage? Or if you slot e destro stuff ability on your duel wield bar or 2handed bar does that increase anything? Or does it only work with a destruction staff ability and a destruction staff being wielded?

Have to have an ability and the staff equipped, otherwise, how can it distinguish what staff you're using and what buff to give?

That's why I asked, just in case it bugged out and gave both buffs without a staff equipped

If you have the ability but no staff how would you get the bonus if the passive requires a specific staff type?

@Bighanson, could you provide more details on your testing as I wasn't able to reproduce the bug. I slotted Wall of Fire and Piercing Javelin on Bar 1 (Inferno Staff) and Wall of Shock and Piercing Javelin on Bar 2 (Lightning Staff). On the Lightning Staff, Piercing Javelin did 3146 damage and on the Inferno Staff it did 3397. The damage increase is 8%, as expected.

@Asayre thats strange, are you sure there was no other destro-skill on your bar? ulti or anything?

i just tested it again with piercing javelin: still the same for me.
do you think the german client is the problem? ^^

    @Bighanson

Thanks for the details! I got it now. It appears to be a tooltip error but the damage done is correct. I was previously reporting values from my damage log.

In the images below, Piercing Javelin does 3397 damage regardless of slotting Weakness to Elements. But you are right that the tooltip does not reflect this when only Wall of Elements is slotted.

Once again, the "never trust tooltips" rule comes out to play.
