Scalding Rune

The DPS of this skill was too low to warrant using in a rotation before, so when it was buffed the buffs did not alter the situation by much. This can be mitigated in two ways:
1. Let Scalding Rune apply Minor Force
2. Buff its damage by a lot more.

A one sentence statement saying the newly buffed skill "was too low" doesn't help players very much ...

What was the testing situation? Can you screenshot combat log results (as other players have posted)?

Lets say my combat metrics says its 5% and doing 1500 dps...is that good? Bad? What if its 2% of my dps and does 1500 dps, does that help you? It doesnt really matter unless there is a frame of reference (buffed/unbuffed). Plus a skills contribution and dps depends on gear, CP and rotation. A concrete number therefore wouldnt help. The skill however does not hit hard enough on all 4 Magicka toons. Even on a DK who has a buff to AoE damage. Oh and fun fact, while the initial tick IS considered AoE, the DoT that it leaves is not considered AoE, even though it affects multiple targets.

Even in AoE the DPS is lackluster....

I agree, it should apply Minor Force at least, and would then be comparable to Rearming Trap.

I agree that even with the buff it seems lackluster. I doubt I'll switch out Eruption from my rotation for this.

However, mage guild skills give +magicka on the bar and empower when used. Might this make it worth using the rune anyway?

(then again, Eruption gives med back stam and more ult, so I kinda doubt it's worth losing it anyway)

If you want the magicka bonus and empower, just use inner light. As a magicka character that's probably at least on your main skill bar anyway. ATM volcaninc rune is the better morph, and just for the utility, not the damage. The CC is pretty good if you play a class that lacks it, for example a templar tank. But for DPS both morphs are garbage.

Well, the +magicka bonus are additive. Meaning you don't get it once, you get it per skill slotted. So having inner light (which I of course have) does not mean you won't get magicka out of Rune.

Also, no one uses Inner for the empower as part of their rotation. It does nothing, takes time to cast, and is rather expensive. If Rune is part of your rotation, it means you will cast it frequently, so your next skill is empowered. Inner does nothing to help you with that, as again, it's not part of your rotation.

I'm not saying Rune is awesome, the numbers still look rather lackluster, but we at least have to consider the guild passives as well.
