im very curious about the "casual gamer" slang going around. what entails this "casual gamer" tag.

Its a misused or more specifically, misunderstood term. Most don't understand its origins because they weren't playing MMORPGs when it was being used (Pre-WoW).

People were using those terms in the MUD days, long before Everquest or MMORPG's ever existed.

Except they weren't. There was no need for the terms that far back.

Casual is a term used by others to separate themselves from the groups of people who aren't determined to dominate the game. Likewise, it can be used by the same group of "casuals" to announce that they aren't "hardcore".
Really, like anything else you can play this game how you want. There are all different shades of gray in between "casual" and "hardcore".

I have played games "hardcore", 16 hours in a day and I have been the best of the best, server firsts, highest parses, top of the lists, ect. The only thing it got me was a little cash when I sold the account. Nobody cares who you are, I occasionally see familiar people, but most of them are like me now... fed up,washed up and taking it easy.
Am I "casual"? I might have fit my old description of it... but I would still say I am as competitive as the "hardcore" gamer. Well... before I decided to take a year long break anyway. Now I am just crusty.

I refuse to play ay game that requires a 60 hour week to be competitive. But I feel like ESO can be played competitively by a "casual". I don't imagine you will be getting emperor most times... I haven't done it myself, but I did help others get there many times, including my wife... that was a 60+ hour week for sure, but I'll do it for her... not for me.

Play, or roleplay, or grind... whatever, how you want. As long as you enjoy it.

Casual he America is not how we approach the game, just how much time we actually devote to the details within it. A casual gamer is happy when we que up for a dungeon and beat it. We do not care if we don't get that drop, or if we do good enough dps to get through it even though we only have 5 gold and all the rest purples. It's not that important.

The game is extremely fun, and we choose this game to spend time on. For some of us, that alone is a privilege between work, church activities, kids school activities, both boys in soccer, daughter in dance, wife in PTO, movies, game night and the damn Giants.
.... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. Thank you for "nameplates", a welcome addition to immersion, as well as the text chat box for PS4, which only comes on the screen when I need it too, and helps this gameplay SO MUCH MORE then without it. THANK YOU for the additions. Very much appreciated.
