New class discussion: Warden and Necromancer

Conjuration would be awesome. Wish it was in the game.

The Warden didn't get retconned to Templar: it was an actual 5th class besides the Templar, another healer class. However, unlike the Templar, the Warden practiced Nature Magicks and Shamanism instead of worshipping the Divines and the Light. I think it was designed as an alternative for RP reasons, a class to those who don't follow the ways of the 8.

However, it was cut from the final game. And ZOS continued with only 4 classes. Traces of the Warden can still be found in the game however: Shaman NPCs can throw green bats and set up totems, whereas Mystic NPCs could also be based on this class

With the barber shop announced expected, I think it's time for ZOS to actually work on and finish the lost 5th class of this game. Class Balance is impossible to attain anyway, but we're a huge step forward with the DB update. Plus it would be a fresh breeze for this game: access to a new class. And to which we can switch with the barber shop.

I imagine the Warden being based on the Wyresses from High Rock, the Spinners of Valenwood and possibly the Reachmages from the Reach as well.

My personal concept of the Warden Class :p

    Skill line 1: Kynareth's Grace (Support/Healing)
This skill line provides the Warden with healing spells, purges,...

    Skill line 2: Nature's Bounty (Defensive/Tanking)
The defensive skills, could have the Totem from the Shaman NPCs in it as well as shields and familiars (like the Daedric Summoning from the Sorcerer)

    Skill line 3: Frost (Offensive/DPS)
An Ice skill line, since we alrdy have Fire (DK) and Lightning (Sorc). Ice is solidified water, and water nourishes life... (?)

Both the Warden and the Necromancer could easily be Sub-Classes. The Warden sounds a lot like a sort of Druid style class. But I really dont see why there needs to be a separation between them. Typically Necromancers are Mages/Sorcerers that decided to dabble in some darker things. Warden is pretty much a parallel to Templar.

I think Necromancy could be added like WW or Vampirism: in a way that the player can choose to dabble in it or not. Besides, Necromancy isn't limited to just Mages, anyone with the right knowledge can make the dead rise up from their graves.

"It's a simple process, a child of five could do it." - Abnur Tharn

I think that would work best, and it opens up some interesting possibilities :p

If a new class gets added, the Warden is the most likely candidate since it was almost finished back then. And yeah, while both the Warden and the Templar fulfill the same purpose, they do it in different ways. It's just like how a Nightblade and a Sorcerer DPS, their primary goal is to put out as much damage as possible but they have different skills, operate differently and different lore behind the class. The Warden could be made different enough from the Templar then as well

The Warden would give players who like to heal more options besides the current heal class (or the other classes who heal)

Hate to burst your bubble, but I don't think they plan on adding class change to the barber shop.

Well you never know. Hope springs eternal :D

I am completely tired of all these Necromancer class threads, I've shared my thoughts on it many times before and I'd state it again. Necromancer as a new skill tree - I am all in for that, as a new class? Never. Simply because Necromancer isn't as diverse as other classes that can branch out to make up for different roles.

Warden on the other hand, looks nice to me, as you said, it covers more classes which is what ESO's classes are about.

My thoughts on the whole matter are still as they have always been...

    - yes for the lore, since it would make sense to have players being able to do what NPCs can do as well, be it using shaman-tastic nature magic, calling hunter-ish animal companions, cast cryomancer ice spells or play with the dead...

    - no for new classes as new classes, because that would vex those who made their characters way back when (like me) with adding a new option they would have preferred back then (not to mention the thing about maxed out character slots - after two years playing, "just reroll" isn't much of an option... and even with new ones coming, by the time there could be new classes, those would most certainly be filled and done as well...)

Thus I always argue for options such as a nature class or a corpseherder class to be done in a way that allows them to be refitted onto existing classes, like: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/240186/class-morph-idea/p1

I don't know if anyone has posted anything similar to what I'll say, but I'm posting regardless.
I believe there should be a necromancer skill-line, but not as a class. It should be a skill line like Mages Guild or Fighters Guild and available to anyone of any class.

I would love to see another class added; one that had lines dealing with Ice, Water and Wind. Water could be a healing line like Templar has. Wind could have a really good AOE line. But I would definitely love an ice line. Fire gets a lot of attention, but ice doesn't get much love. And it would make Nord ice resistance worth more.

love the whole idea of the op. I agree that it is about time we get new classes. Though if we did, I'm not sure when I would get around to playing them. but I love everything mentioned by the op.

Why do people want Necromancy? Seriously I know it's cool and all but there are plenty of reasons the Vestige should and would never do it. I can name 3 easy:

    1. We lost our soul because of a Necromancer.
    2. Abnur Tharn would be right, and we never want that now do we?
    3. I'd rather feed corpses to the birds.

Now of course as I mentioned there are more reasons but god is this topic way past worn out. Pretty sure I recall Zenimax saying they won't be adding new classes ever and even as a skill line I don't see this happening. Conjuration, maybe, but not Necromancy.

Why not just remove classes. True play how you want lol. Everyone can then run the same meta builds. Oh wait that's pvp already.

im still very much hoping we will see the warden. i know alot of people want to see the game balanced before we get more classes, but maybe this is the type of deal we need to change the meta and shift up gameplay.
plus im hella bored with my 3 nbs and 3 sorcs and one templar. im not a huge fan of the pets, but the frost and healing would be neat

I just want a warrior and mage class not a dragon knight with fire etc or a sorc that can't get its skills together but a real melee stamina based brawler class that can turn any weapon skill deadlier and a mage that ises fire ice and alteration or restoration magic

    This one gets it:p

I would like another support/pet class i was disappointed when i couldnt summon an animal like a lot of npc's can. And i loved the skills the shaman like npc's use. The sorc class just isnt it for me (why cant i summon a flame atronarch like in skyrim or the wolf familiair...)
So far from what ive heard about the warden it would have been great for me.

A class with alteration and illusion magic could be fun to play too.

I have been a big fan of the Necromancy class being added; would really like to alter an existing character I have to be a Necromancer. I'm all for other classes. Just as a note, the Warden class was an original concept proposed for the game that was removed with certain elements being added to other class(es) (or was it just Templar?).

I admire your hope for balanced classes but i doubt thats ever gonna happen. Class balance is a battle in every mmo and i have never heard of a mmorpg with balanced classes and no fotm. :)

I thought long and hard about this game and the class and what ESO has done is basically allowed us lots of flexibility with how we play. All classes can play all roles: DPS stamina or magika, tank or healer. All classes over control type abilities. The flexibility is so unique that adding another class simply won't improve the game due to how most MMO games are designed which is all classes can be a DPS but most are designed specifically for a specific role.

Looking at DCUO all classes can play DPS but all classes also have 1 support role they can play. NW most classes are designed with a specific role in mind such that the Guardian Fighter in that game is a tank first and can be a DPS but mostly a tank.

ESO gives players flexibility and that makes playing this game unique.

Though it never hurts to have more options.

The thing is, we already have Necros and Wardens in game but as NPCs. I'd say most skills are already in game and only must be made into skill lines or a class. We already have Necros summoning skeletons or Wardens forcing the power of nature upon us. ZOS just needs to turn them into actual playable classes.

The only way I see ZOS implementing necromancy is as its own skill line. I feel like it would conflict too much with the Sorceror pet tree or be too similar. Warden would be a cool thing to bring back though.

That being said, I would honestly like to see any new classes. Necromancer, Warden, whatever.

Or something like that idea, anyhow.
New classiness for -everyone- no matter if the character is newly made, or has been played since launch. They'll still have to play to max and morph the new skills in either case...

I'd prefer to see a sub class system introduced to each current class. An optional/unlockable skill line that favours your style of play.

For Sorcs I'd provide the options of the following
    1, Mage healer
    2, Necromancer

    For Templars
    1, Holy/Radiant Tank
2, Bard (provides added inspiration to whole group)

    For Night blades
    1, Ranger/Hunter/Scout
    2, Assassin

    For Dragon knight
    1, Demon/Flame Tank
    2, Dragon Priest

In my opinion this would add to the role playing aspect of the game as it could add to the overall diversity of the game. For instance a trial could have a sorc healer for spell power and a Templar Bard for group buffs and healing. Same roles but different perks and different strategies for utility and dps throughout.

Just echoing what alot of people have said, but still, Necromancer as a skill line (don't know where to put it though) and Warden as a class would be great.

Like all other classes it should be able to do most roles in magicka and stamina, but in it's own unique way.

Wardens were originally defensive ranged casters and templars were melee healers. It wasn't just a difference of theme.

When wardens were scrapped, templars were reportedly changed to make them viable at range but their healing is still almost entirely pbaoe so ZO didn't put much effort into that. Though Dawn's Wrath gives them ranged DPS, which DK's and NB's lack. So that skill line might have been tweaked.

Necromancy has had a long and storied history in Elder scrolls games, often being the choice magic for 'bad guys'. Obviously this is a bit harder to work into the ESO storyline, being that we're fighting a necromancer as one of the primary enemies, and molag bal is one of the chief patrons of necromancy (though not the only one, obviously).

They made it work for vampirism. I'm sure they could for necromancy too.

But it still depends on who you ask. Some Bosmer are ok with eating plants or using wooden stuff as long as the plants and wood didn't come from Valenwood, while others are not.

That only applies to the use of plant material. Plant material grown outside of Valenwood can be eaten or consumed. But not plant material in Valenwood, because Valenwood is sacred.

The prohibition against transformation is the Bosmer form is also sacred.

    http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Green_Pact
Y'ffre is believed to have first blessed them with their form, thus their appearance is sacred, so although Bosmer may take the shape of beasts, the Pact normally bans this practice.
