Why is one able to toggle all three roles?

This may be a silly question, but I've been burned by people queueing as healer and tank to get a spot when they aren't either of those roles too many times to not ask.

Why is one able to even toggle more than one role? If one can actually play both with the same character and you queue as both, it should put you in a specific role that you have to agree to. Example, I queue as healer and tank because I can do both and just want to run a random daily,.. Then whichever spot opens up first a prompt would come up and say "you are the healer, do you accept?" Otherwise it's a mess...

Am I missing something here?

I went into a dungeon where one person had a tank and DPS role, the other a healer and DPS and another all three.... It was complicated to understand who was functioning as what role.

Can someone enlighten me?

I queue for all three roles on my magicka characters and all except healer on my stamina characters. It is because I can simply swap gear and do all. Heck I can solo most vet dungeons, so I can do all roles at once as well.

I thought it did put icons next to your name in the corner of the screen telling you what role each person was assigned to. Perhaps that is only on the vanilla interface?

At any rate, I've run into this a few times myself. Though in my case it was just people queuing as multiple roles so they could get in faster, but they were pure DPS. And most of them couldn't even do that job effectively.

People toggling roles that they aren't suited for is a problem that has always plagued the dungeon finder system.

This is honestly the only reason I see acceptable as to queue for all 3 roles; If you can solo that exact dungeon I see no problem in selecting all 3. As for those that select healer or tank when they aren't? Only solution I see is by locking characters into that specific role for 24hrs or something, anything else would force players into rigid builds that ZOS doesn't want for the spirit of the Elder Scrolls franchise.

But then again what about the builds that aren't good in any role?

In normal dungeons people often use all 3 roles to find a group faster. Normals are easy to clear and don't require much effort. So these people are just rational.
If people are doing this in veteran dungeons, they're either good players, capable of doing several things; can swap gear sets and builds; stupid ***.

I once queued a vet dungeon, a guy shows up with all three toggled. As we all wipe on the engine guardian, he proceeds to solo heal/tank/dps the boss and rez everyone repeatedly. He may have died once during the entire thing.

One can have a character prepared to do any of the three at any time with a gear swap

Most people that do this are not like this, and are trying to cheat the system

I regularly queue as all 3 because all I have to do is to switch gear, food and skillset to jump from one role to another. You get informed what role you have once you find a dungeon, so even if all 4 involved queued as all roles there shouldn't be an issue regarding who does what once you're in.

However I've sometimes ended up in dungeons where it was me and 3 damagedealers, and I'm not sure if it's intended or a bug.

I think there can be exceptions that still work. My MagSorc just melts through a lot of Normal Dungeons, but because of that she's a DPS and it's difficult to find groups. But since she's a MAGSorc, I just throw on a Resto Staff on the back bar, some Resto Abilities, and viola, now I'm a DPS/Healer.

Somehow it's really hard to be calm seeing people queueing in all 3 roles at once... Even if some of them really know what to do, the other bunch of noobs just try to be clever cheating for the quick spot. Impossible to know who is who before the dungeon starts. This ability (to queue for all roles) should be turned off.

I dont see it as valid reason at all. Keeping yourself alive is easy, just run vigor and stay out of stupid, but when other people are depending on you, vigor aint gonna cut it. Queue as a tank, noone needs a tank ever, most of the time dungeons are easier with 3 dd and no tank anyway

Some characters (and the players that play them) are experienced enough that with a change of equipment and slotted skills they can comfortably fill any of the three roles very successfully in a group.

Become a tank and heal, and you'll never run into problematic pug role dungeons.
