Leveling assault quickly?

Is there any way to quickly level assault? I need caltrops in order to be effective in end game PvE, but unfortunately ZOS has made it so that in order to effectively end game pve, you need to pvp. I despise PvP and hate Cyrodiil,. mostly because its all just zerging and if you arent a DK you wont last 10 seconds. So, is there any way you can quickly level up assault without having to spend days upon days pvping?

If you're not a DK??? Crearly you either haven't been to Cyrodiil since 1.5 or are watching very old videos. FYI you don't NEED caltrops because only one person can use them, they are nice to have but they do not stack. And to answer your question, no, like you PvE'rs are so fond of saying, if you want the rewards, go do the content.

It shouldn't take you days. I consider myself a poor PVPer and I can get it in ~16 hours. People can do it in far less.

What I found to work well was to find a small group, and join up with them, and when overwhelming odds come against you, I'd jump into the mass of enemies, and Steel Tornado spam until it got too dangerous, then I got out of there. It worked pretty well for me, but there are probably better ways of getting AP.

    - Join a group and get into big battles
    - Spam Mutagen
    - Repair Walls and Doors
    - Stay near resources and keeps after a battle to get big AP ticks
    - And don't forget to pick up Kill quests from your homebase

I'm about 95% sure you've thought of this, but depending on the effect you are lookin for from Caltrops, you could substitute Trapping Webs from Undaunted. It's not ideal, but it might get you there without needing to do the PvP thing.

There is no quick way about it, there are just less-painful ways of PvPing. If you truly hate PvP, I would recommend using ranged AoE attacks, avoiding the enemy as much as possible, but staying embedded inside of a group so you aren't an easy gank target. AoE attacks let you get credit for the kills more easily, and ranged obviously gives you a way better chance of survival. Once you can afford siege, grab some fire ballista and use that if it suits you. It's a slow firing rate, but if you have good aim and there are huge numbers of enemies outside your keep, you're going to just rake in the AP once other folks come in and finish the kill. Just don't try to be part of the group to do it, it will not work for you. Stay away, stay at range, stay mobile. Don't be a hero, just get your tags and hide.

....ummmm is this an old post? DKs have not been king in Cyrodil for some time. They have reduced the AP needed for Vigor several times now just to appease people like OP. And since when do you need Vigor for anything endgame? Endgame PvE has healers to heal the tanks and DDs. Vigor is good if you are trying to solo everything and need a heal but for group content it is hardly used.

for AP just repair walls and stand in an active keep for D-ticks. Vigor only takes 100,000AP now (opposed to the 1million+ needed at release) and can be done less than 4 hours in anything but a dead campaign. You do not even need to take a swing at an enemy player anymore

88,000 currently to unlock vigor, and when they added vigor it actually required alliance rank 24 which is ~7 million, and people still whine about getting vigor and caltrops.

    @SG_Celerrimus

Only one in the raid can use caltrops and ideally that person will run NMG and will have a second set other than NMG for when they're not the person running caltrops.

The only thing from AvA that a stam dps needs is vigor and that's easy to get. You would need to participate in Cyrodiil PvP to level up AvA.

It is likely intended that these great skills are kicked behind AvA. Consider that the best ultimate for a tank or healer to run is Agressive Horn reinforces this thought. Zos made it easier to level the AvA lines to get these skills in an update earlier this year.

Someone was complaining to me the other day about having to PVP to get rapid maneuvers. I guess just the thought of entering cyrodiil is anathema for some.

Excellent advice. If you're not into killing players then just gear up in heavy armor with a bunch of skills to protect yourself, stand out on the fringe of the battle, and heal those who are doing the killing.

And then on top of that, they doubled AP gains, so it's really comparing 44k to 7million+

I would advise you to give PVP an actual shot rather than just look at it as grind.

There's a lot of depth to it, and if you get even just slightly interested, you'll have those AP in no time (as in hours) and it won't even feel like a grind.

If you are determined to look at it as an unfun experience, just spam heals all day and during fights make sure to do damage to as many enemies as humanly possible - you don't have to kill them as long as someone else does. Ressing allies gives you AP too, and since One Tamriel scaling everyone should run around with hundreds of filled grand soul gems unless they are doing something wrong.

Re-invest your AP in siege machines (especially oil), repair materials and soul gems, and make sure you put that oil to good use during keep defense and repair, you'll get awarded buckets of AP.
