Is it just me or does anyone else get bad experiances with RP'ing guilds?

I just don't like when RP turns into talking all night and never going on adventures . I can RolePlay a person afraid of going outside in real life . I don't need that in here .

Yeah, I remember an RP group in another game that did that.

Do you know how long it takes and how much work is involved in building up a website (I don't mean the technical frame, I mean the content), defining a guild's goal and identity, putting it into words ? Are you too lazy or undefined to actually express what you want, check what the guild wants, and see if it fits ?

There are many "open bar" guilds out there, where the rules and identity are nothing more than "everyone is welcome, we cater to everyone, newbies, hardcore, pvp, pve, rp, all that's required is mutual respect and readiness to help each other". Chances are, these guilds will have a bunch of people who are so different from each other that they can barely find any content to play together with. They usually die or split up within a few weeks or months for lack of common values and interests. Good guilds with a strong identity, on the other hand, may have less members at any given time, but those members will truly enjoy playing with each other and sharing a common vision of the game. As a result, they build strong social relationships, last over time and survive "dry" periods of time such as summer months easily.

Finding a guild that's good for you takes time several tries, perseverance, and a fair share of effort and communication, too. As an alternative, you can join any "open bar" guild with little rules and weak identity, but chances are, you'll be just wasting time (yours and theirs) and become frustrated and salty.

Personally, I tend to avoid RPers in general. I think it's because I keep stumbling upon the really bad, sappy love story RPers.

    "Oh my love."
    "Yes, my love?"
    "I love you my love."
    "I know, my love."
"That night together was wonderful my love."
"It was wonderful for me too my love."
"But the king needs me and I must leave you now my love."
"But what of your ingrown toenail my love?"
"Do not worry my love. I shall endure, even though the healer said he might have to amputate my left leg my love."
"But the toenail is on your right foot my love."
"Yes, but my left foot is having sympathy pains my love."
"Oh, my love, I love you so much my love! Be sure to come back to me alive my love!"

I always join "open bar" guilds and never register on websites. These guild are mostly more relaxed and I am very content in these guilds. No obligations, just fun.

Maybe I am just lucky :-)

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

No, I know. I accidentally walked in on ERPers a few years ago while farming motifs. The moment has stuck with me. I'm told with sufficient therapy I may some day learn to stop projectile vomiting when encountering romance RPers.

Today I see someone yelling in zone for peeps to join a Dunmer only rpg and I am like yeah that will be some fun! Then I get questioned like I was going thru security at a freakn airport. Then she doesn't like my answers so she says, "You can look at our site: blablabla." Hay, lady, I just quit my 5th guild in the hopes that you would take me in. You didn't say anything about RP'ing rules when you asked in chat if anyone wanted to join a Dunmer Morrowind guild. I swear to god I have had it with you role players. You are rule obsessed control freaks and you are rude to people new to rp'ing. Straight up.

As much as I agree with you, I also see the point of that guild. Its their guild, their rules. Game has so many immersion breaking concepts already, I see why ppl who love rp want their guilds to be immersive to how they rp. And tbh, chat is not a place to write down every single detail, advertises are never like that. You should see my guild leaders, they don't even let you join if all your chars are not in EP.

Yeah, I remember an RP group in another game that did that.

Mine liked to hang out in hot tubs all night and chat about their lesbian love lives. To their credit, the guild leader was trying to come to terms with her sexuality. The other group I was in spent most of their time in the bar talking about the adventures they had out in the world that were not together. They did go on a few jaunts, but not many. The rest of the time it was spent in the bar getting drunk, high, and socializing.

Most MMO RP groups are boring.

I've never Rp'd before, but i've thought about creating a RP guild :)

The story would be something like:

I am Queen Emily and anyone who joins my guild would submit to me. They will obey every command I issue, they will honor and respect each other, and they will fight for glory and blood. Anyone who disobeyed the queen would be punished.

During battle, Queen Emily never fights, she just heals. Her army would protect her as she leads them to victory. Through time she would seek out the strongest fighter to be the King.

    :)

Very valid point - people have a different view on roleplay and there is the problem. Some think, it would be kind of a shakespearean stage play, where speech is the most important - I don't like this kind of RP, because people who are into that are far too much likely to oppose their idea of rp onto you - you become an actor in their stage play basically or at least that is their idea of role playing - but that is actually acting, not role playing.

So IMO it is important to make sure, that one has a very similar opinion about what roleplay is like to enjoy it with a group. As for the rules, if those are too restrictive, it is not role play anymore, it becomes acting, because there is not much creativity left. And like always, stay far away from people, who are overly pedantic - this will ruin your fun.

Probably not. Because I'd like to think the vast majority of people knew the exact word the person was meaning to type. I mean, I'd see the point if he had typed something like "ffjbgncjasdhnsdfjv" or something along those lines, but if you genuinely couldn't figure it out because of a single misplaced letter, then ... erm ... eh, I dunno what to say.

If you join a guild without an interview process, then you know what you are getting. A guild who will take anyone including trouble makers, drama queens, and the offensive.

I suspect that the interview process is designed to weed out those types. You know, the type who jump guilds every couple weeks, drama queens who run to the forums to complain to everyone when they don't get accepted....

It's perfectly fine for guild leadership to decide you aren't a good fit for their guild and you are probably better off for it, as are they.

    This is true.
