Player Request: New Life Festival

You may not realize this but this game has a constant influx of new players. Lots and lots of them. Few of those player will be able to participate in this New Life Festival because they don't have the way shrines. They can get there but it's a bit complicated for a new player. So if you are not doing anything, or you have a small chunk of time left over before you have to log, run a quick shuttle to the festival, or from the festival to the quest spots. I saw a lot of people helping them out, one even made a stack of twice spiked ale for the stonetooth achievement and was giving them all out to the people doing the festival. Just hit up some lowbie areas and ask in zone if anyone needs a shuttle to the New Life Festival. New players are vital to the longevity of a game so you will be doing yourself a favor in the long run as well.

For anyone that is still waiting for a ride see below to travel there manually.

Right. These are the Transport Services icons:
40px-ON-mapicon-Dock.png40px-ON-icon-Caravan.png
These same icons are used for Navigators and all other transportation services.

When you mouse-over them, you get the ON-icon-TravelServices.png icon and the details of where you can travel to.

Also, tell them about the travel services offered by Navigators, as they aren't promoted very well.

i had to ride horseback from Davon's Watch to Windhelm yesterday with an alt char lvl 15 with riding speed of 4 , even with rapid manouver it was painfull beeing stopped all the time by some npc mobs near or on the roads .
then back again towards the quest spot , mind that i have atm 2 playable chars that are DC races but i play in AD .
seriously after finishing it and with the issues of lag andd the fact to go back on the spot to renew xp boost made me stop playing , the desire to play was off

That's what I was saying just above. The Navigators really aren't promoted very well.

    Navigator Routes

For your purposes, the quickest would be Davon's Watch - Riften - Windhelm. The Navigator can be found at the Davon's Watch Dockyards.

For real. I didn't know they existed until I read about them on the forum.

I spent some time today ferrying people between zones, it really is quite a problem. I can just jump to guildmates if I'm on an alt without unlocked wayshrines, but new players don't have this option.

You can also holler at someone who can group with you and you can "travel to player" once they are at the location (if the area is unlocked/accessible to you.) It will bring you to that wayshrine or nearest wayshrine. Did that plenty for many players asking on zone chat.

If you're very low level AD or DC toons, you may not be able to travel to Windhelm yet. I think the other alliance areas can only be unlocked at 20 or 30 level (non-CP.) If that is the case, just grind or do quests until you level up enough so where those areas are unlocked. We have until Jan 4th. That is plenty of time to grind and level up.

That's not the case. There are no level restrictions on zone access.

Perhaps one of the addon authors can add map pins for navigators, (that is until the Devs add this feature to the vanilla version of the game), that would really help the new players out.

It did cross my mind that one subtle purpose of the Festival was designed around introducing newer players to travelling around Tamriel, getting them to explore new locations and leading them to areas where pivotal quests to the main storeyline are located, or having to travel past other quest-giver locations.

Many of the destinations are in proximity of existing Fighters Guild, Mages Guild and Undaunted (Bolgrul) Daily Pledges. I will not list them here and there might not be a quick-fix solution - appart from cadging a lift - for getting to a destination but what is the problem with that? I do not know any game where new players have everything handed to them on a plate.

I had to get an AD vet char - whom has not done Cadwell's Gold - to Betnikh. I used the 'Locations' cart from Elden Root (Grahtwood) to Daggerfall, caught a ship from Daggerfall to Stros M'Kai and from there, a sailing boat to Betnikh. I could probably have sailed directly from Daggerfall but I was too impatient to find the correct sailing vessel and so took the scenic route. On the way I picked up 6 skyshards, resulting in 2 (much needed) skill-points for the said Char.

Other locations, for example, Alclair Castle is close to the Rivenspire, Glenumbra and the Friendship Gate to Wrothgar - for those with access to the DLC, so with levelling there is no reason why anyone with the DLC cannot get there and why any of the 3 Alliences cannot get there using either their Alliance Gates or Locations Cart.

I agree wholeheartedly that the Location carts are not well advertised, nor well signposted and it sometimes takes a bit of problem solving to get from A to B but if ZOS's intention was to get players to explore, then I have no problem with that. It helps with immersion into the game and in the long-term, it might sort out the one-shot wonders from long-term players.

This is a very good point from the OP. I had a friend join the game and he had no idea where to go or what he was supposed to be doing including missing the way shrines.

The new life festival is another disorganized mess IMO, especially for new players. The Halloween festival was great.

Cool, I saw the person giving out the free ale. Very comendable. Also, I have been helping people get their ports ti different wayshrines.

I also created a new character (for the first time since One Tamriel started) and discovered that the ships in the harbors of the major cities actually take you places! So this is really cool.

Actually, I like to travel on foot most of the time to pick up skyshards, read lorebooks, gather mats, kill the occasional mob for the chance of aetheric cipher drop, and to loot treasure chests. I got a boat to Rifton then made my way to Kynesgrove Wayshrine the site of the New Life Festival.

I handed out 50 spiked ales to people yesterday. I'll be doing the same again on varying days until the end of festival.
I'll also offer a 'taxi' service to those who shout for it.
Anyone who needs (on EU PC) the betnikh double spiked ale can always message me for a free mug either by game mail or /w to @XDragonDoomX

As it has been said before; just refer them to the Navigators - it will take them to every major city in every zone. That way the new player can only get to their final destination, they can also pick up other wayshrines, POIs, skyshards, etc.

Also, if you're on the Betnikh daily, a 'door' will appear on the map indicating that will take you to the quest location. I noticed that the Betnikh travel option is only available if you have the daily quest - if you do not, you won't see that travel option to go to Betnikh.

Group with the person, make sure you are the leader (have the 'crown'). Then have the other player open their party menu ("P" key), then right-click your name, then select "Travel to Leader"...the person will appear at the closest wayshrine to you.

Of course, you need to travel to the desired location so you can act as the taxi.

Thank's for the expansion on my comment, I forgot to add that I later realised that this was the case. From memory, I saw there were 3 destinations where the samll boat would take me but when I asked the boatperson, there were only 2 opions available. It was under the firts option, which said something like "Looking for an Adventure?" that I found the Betnikh sailing.

Yeah, I got a female character called Lust, thief-in-chief this one. She goes in the starting area calling people to teleport them, although she takes 1000 gold for the teleport action. And people do buy the service. I guess it's because she is cute. The thing is, she take them directly to a sacrifice pit dedicated to Molag Bal.

There are carts and ships that can take you to any map, so I dont think thats an issue. People are just unaware of this feature it seems.

Not really. If they join a decent sized guild they can travel to guild members.

And if they don't join a decent sized guild the chances of them staying in the game a long time is less.

    So, OPs suggestion isn't needed.

I have and will play taxi for new players. Isn't a huge issue for me, and NOT being an unhelpful jerk is a bonus. I help out people with crafting questions and quest questions too. People helped me when I started, I see no reason to stop being friendly/helpful/nice.

If no one helps them out, or tells them about decent guilds because "If they don't join a decent sized guild they won't be in the game long" then a self-fulfilling prophecy has been started. When I help with questions or play taxi I also ask new players if they would be interested in joining a guild. You know, since they are new and have no idea about guilds and all....I'm in two guilds that are new-player friendly with many members who don't mind answering questions or lending a hand.
