So noticing on twitter and here that a few people mentioned having a hard time getting fish.. so I figured I'd share a tip.

Do not run from hole to hole as they spawn, too many folks will get their line in the water before you get there.

As soon as a hole finishes(despawns) stand there. The respawn timer on these holes is ridiculously fast. Just wait. As soon as the hole spawns, fish, boom. You can run to another hole currently being fished and wait for it to despawn, or just stay at your current fishing hole and wait.

Yup. I concur. This is what I do and I am successful, even when there are crowds around me.

Another thing that I do is stand on the far side of the spawn point. People do that stupid thing where they have a train of mobs following them to the fishing spot. I have been kicked out of fishing because of an attack by one of these. Since these people are in a rush to get there Right This Instant, they tend to approach from the closest side. By standing on the far side, I have less problems.

For PC players, install Votan's Fisherman add-on. This will help make it obvious when you have hooked a fish, which can help in crowds where people are not exactly being "neighborly".

On Xbox, the controller vibration saying you caught a fish us frequently delayed, by enough time that you can easily lose your fish to a broken line by not reacting in time.

Instead, watch your fishing pole. (So try to stand a little further from the crowd so you can tell which pole is yours). When the end of the fishing pole dips towards the water, that is when to reel in the fish.

Also, fish are tradeable, so if you keep catching the same one or two you do have the option to trade with other players for what you are missing. You can also bank them to withdraw on other characters. Fish obtained this way of course do not count towards the achievement.

Ah I'm a well trained fishwoman so even the slightest bit of my character showing I can see the caught it wiggle, but that is a great tip! I also found myself standing at "off" spots not only to avoid mobs, but more like to be able to see your character :)

I spent about 30 minutes yesterday at the one fishing location and caught more than 12 of each of the required fish.

I didn't see it as any different to any other fishing in the game except for the number of people. I did not see any tricks or anything and only had about 6 used bait returns.

...just be aware if you aren't already, that duplicates can count toward later quest runs, but they won't count toward the achievement. Any character that you play must catch his/her own separate 5 / 5 / 5 fish for the achievement.
