To all of you upset by the down time...

Actually yes. I was on a software and system testing team for quite a few years and I know that there is a high probability that you know less than you like me to think.

Awesome! An expert! What MMO's did you test and code for? I probably know who you are. And all I can assume is that you're simply trolling, because as an insider you know very well that no two MMO's are the same....even with the same basic engine, and these differences can cause unforeseen complications. And you will also of course understand that claiming you know how game programming works because you did some minor code work for some other desktop program has absolutely no bearing on an MMO....it'd be like a mechanic for Ford saying, "I've rebuilt countless transmissions.....I can fix your F-35!"

    But nice stir :hushed:

That being said....I really liked how Trion handled patch days in the early days of Rift. The constant communication was appreciated.

    Are you serious???
Its 2016, game downtime should be no more than an hour. This is my only day off this week and I got up real early just to play the game and find out this happens? Total BS, the devs should give everyone 1000 extra crowns for taking so long, especially being in 2016. I mean COMMON, back in 1999 in the Everquest days, those updates were WAYY WAYY faster than these guys at ESO. Developers need to get there program ready before doing a patch, they shouldnt be figuring it out while doing the patch. Should be very quick process, especially since its 2016. Developers should allow me to at least work on my inventory management and check my stuff on the guild trader during this down time.

I'm strongly thinking about going to World of Warcraft because they at least do patches fast, and minimal downtime and actually care about the players, they have actual expansions, compared to ESO baby expansions aka DLC, probably because the developers at WoW are 10 times better at getting stuff done and have great time management skills. ESO needs to get everything ready before doing the patch, all there paperwork, coding, etc should already be done and ready before the patch, it should be a smooth and quick process. These ESO developers need to know more coding, aka copy the code, and paste the code, for very fast patch updates.

Cannot believe how long this patch is taking, its 2016 going into 2017, hiring new fresh 21-24 years old, outta college coders is a must because these old timer developers are way too slow, they past their prime. HR needs a wakeup call and start putting the pressure on the current developers because compared to industry average, ESO developers are slow as turtles with these patches.

I actually had a conversation with Linda Carlson about that, she said it actually got people more stirred up, and I can see that. I think everyone should be a fly on a wall in a GM bullpen just one day or even a couple hours.

Trust me they hate you, and they hate you for good reason. When someone like Chris Metzen retires because he's worried that some nutter with a gun is going to take a shot at him or Kidnap his kids you know the MMO industry is in trouble.

Regularly people would wander on the Turbine campus who actually thought their adventures in Middle Earth were real or they had a manifesto that the developers better had look at to "fix their broken game" they would start making threats security would get called

    fun times.

We have the most self centered venom filled demographic in the industry, the developers work 69 to 90 hours a week get death threats for sleeping and everyone wonders why so and so left to make Enterprise software.

The same reason I did, 40 hour work weeks great benefits twice the pay and no nut jobs.

Players scream and demand more communication they scream and demand for everything to be fix in their vision yesterday, but they never look at just how messed up the people are who play these games.

I dont complain about extended down time, except when its more or less every patch, even a tiny 50mb patch takes 10+ hours, that other games manage to do in 1-4 hours, all the time, plus the fact that there are often more problems after the patch then before, the fact that the maintenance needs a maintenance to fix all the new issues, the bad lag etc after every patch, that is reason to complain imo^^

Complaining about complainers makes you worse than complainers.

And a bit condescending. For me, it has nothing to do with the actual downtime. It's the fact that they waited 8-9 hours to address the issues because their employees needed their beauty sleep.

Oh Gawd. Do you work? You know, for them it's a job, get up, go to work for 8 hours, come home. Ridiculous.

. Yes, crap does happen and it needs to be fixed. But there is NO reason for this much downtime
    .

    You realize that's a contradiction?

I'm not complaining about ZOS. I understand what it takes to keep something like this running bug free, hardware fail free, DDOS attack free, and on and on.

You arent just dealing with plugging in and playing. You are dealing with keeping people's information secure. You are dealing with a fine line of modding and being able to hack the game. This isnt your usual MMO where the game company controls 100% of what's going on here. You have no clue of what it takes to deal with this business. That's right, I said business. Which totally blows your *if they cared about it* argument. You just want to be whining to take out your frustration at not being able to play. Grow up Jr.

We don't have to understand why, this is not our business, we just complain as the other MMO can do it so why they can't? So we complain about their service, that is a mess.
Just for comparison, on GW1 not the 2 you can play when they do a patch, mostly 500mb. When the update is finish (during your play) you receive a message asking to restart your client to download the patch...

So we are complaining that they don't put the effort to do it like the rest of the other MMO, this is just a customer reaction, the rest of complication of coding and gap they have, well this is not our business.

Dont have to understand why? Really? Well, with all of the complaining, ZOS is telling people who aren't close to finishing something to pick it up so they dont lose customers. And the Ironic part of that is that those people complaining are so addicted to the game that unless they couldnt actually play the game at all, they would continue to play the game, bugs, lag, flat out broken things and all. How do I know this? I watched DDO, probably the best DND MMO ever, turn into a sloppy mess that isnt even as interesting as tetris. And I played it for 7 years and spent thousands on it.

Let them do what they need to do to fix it and dont complain so much. ESPECIALLY if you cant do it.

This is your choice if you like to stay on a junked game and spend so many cash on it; it's up to you. I was here from the beta and took the monthly rental, I have been patient and now it's 2 years after near 3, I have stop to give them cash . On my side as many other players, we are just waiting for a better tomorrow because there is nothing better atm. This will be in Star citizen, but maybe it will be too much deep for you.
Ps: I can complain because i am a customer first ;) and this our power and right. ZOS their right is to do nothing, it's in the Terms and condition, but this why they will lose slowly but surely their customers.

Good call Eld! I can respect that you feel slighted and vote with your dollar and play elsewhere. To be honest I'd far rather see that than see all the needless whining and whatnot on here from some, especially when they have absolutely no clue what running a game like this entails (especially the "I know, I tested games!" idiot).

Hate to see ya leave, but I respect your decision. Also, from purely a selfish standpoint, declines in revenue is the ONLY language a game company can speak, which is completely understandable given the idiocy of the general public...so people leaving will either make them do better or pack it in.
