How much will houses cost?

Maybe I'm way off with this but I think the prices thrown around on here are way too high... Housing caters to PVE casuals as much as anyone, many of whom have never seen 1 million gold and never will. I would think that ZOS would make it more reasonable for players like this to buy houses, even the big ones, seeing as most things they do attempt to cater to the whole "play as you want" kinda thing.

I agree that they probably will, but I hope they don't. The fact that this game doesn't have a huge gold sink is the reason that prices for the handful of things that are somewhat challenging to get and are actually free market (gold tempers and desirable set weapons) are as expensive as they are.

I have enough wood and metal in my ESO plus bags that I should be able to just build my own house =/

This game like any other business is all about making money. Housing appeals most to casual pve players who generally don't have too much in-game gold. They are also the group of players who are most likely to spend money in the crown store.
So, ZOS will make in-game gold prices really high to force these pve players to buy the house they want in the crown store.

It'll prob be something like this
    • 1,000 for a small house
    • 10,000 for a medium house
    • 100,000 for a large house

Some of the devs/execs in this game came from DAoC. I have no clue how housing will work here, but in DAoC, you had to buy a deed and then pay a monthly fee. In that game, houses were in a separate zone and organized as villages, so the idea was that if you stopped playing the game, your lot would be freed up for other players.

So, my guess is 1,000,000 gold for big houses up front and 100,000 per month in taxes.

That pricing makes no sense. I've been playing the game for under 6 months, have only spent money on repairs, upgrading my horse, and pack merchants, and still only have about 180k. There's no way it would cost that much.

I have yet to hit my 2 month mark, I spend on tons of junk like motifs I'll never use, 50k on a guild auction for a big pile of wet gunny sacks (mostly for the lolz) and just hit 1 million gold banked for houses

Edit: I did start at level 42 (from launch) but with less then a mount speed upgrade of gold on all my characters (kept logging in to upgrade b4 i quit)

on just 1 character you can pull like 120k a week with larceny alone with ~1 hour of effort or less a day, which you could do on multiple characters (i don't) and that's w/o using guild stores (I do both)

I used npc stable prices as a base line for my estimate and not guild stores, since that is the closest thing to purchasing a really expensive common product back in the timeframe this series is based in. They'll prob have at least 1 or 2 houses which costs 1,000,000 though but I doubt it by looking at stable horse prices. As for owning multiple homes, I haven't really thought about that but they'll prob have it designed so you can only own 1 house at a time.

I think the RMT are also thinking they will be costly. Anyone read Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/5i2apr/suspicious_pile_of_new_characters_in_rawlkha/. In a nutshell all the bots are back.

ZOS cannot allow that. There will have to be restrictions. In other mmo's we (online game house hunters) had to do a lot of weird things to get a house. I do not want to tell you afraid the devs will "overhear" me. But one house per player allowed seems reasonable. Also, to save server space if a person does not log in for a complete month they should lose property rights. Okay, I lied, I did mention one weird there. The lose your house for not logging in was a F***V (name of game I'm not allowed to say on forums cause I'm not allowed to mention other games) thingy I believe.

Like a lot? I got imperial edition so I would get an imperial house.

At this point, I think it is all speculation. Sounds like you will get an apartment for doing the quest, and then you will be able to purchase bigger homes with gold. My guess is that the biggest houses will cost several million, but that is just a guess.

Seeing that at any given point in time I have only had around 300K-400K I'm not sure I will ever really indulge in housing lol. I guess I have to finally join a trade guild or farm stuff for sale.

I might be looking for a Butler, Housecarl, Gardener and Groom. If you are interested, please forward your CV.

Accommodation provided above the stable block.

    Lady Y. P.

This one really needs a job and heard that you have jobs to give. Rylai is very good with animals and the garden but this one would almost do anything for a good job.
