Regardless of what one might think Zos is most certainly not obligated to inform you of their investigation.

In fact they're most likely obligated to not share such information due to personal privacy and such.

It's a wise decision for Zos to never share such information concerning specific accounts as policy and that's exactly what Zos does.

I know the server maintenance puts everyone in a foul mood so go take a relaxant, and go lay down for a while.

Whats wrong with asking for the results of the report that I took time to file up?

Do you even read the answers in your own post? Seriously, go ahead, there are a couple of well constructed responses for your question.

I demand a Hall of Shame sub-forum section, listing players that have been banned for offenses in ESO.

Also, have the title "Cheater" permanently affixed to their account should they return from a temporary ban

Other MMOs have done similar moves.

How about this, upon 100 successful bot-reports you get the in-game title "Bot-Bane".

    "Bane of Bots"?

Tongue in cheek, I think it's in our own best interest as players. Personally I'm not even interested what happened after. I'm of the opinion that ZOS is on board and they will deal with it.

Does not start out well, will not go well, and will not end well. You will have advocates or defenders of the accused, no matter what they did, you will have friends of the accused coming down on both sides of the issue, you will have prosecution and persecution of the accused, you will have others brought into the mix with "what about them and what they did?". Then you will have people that see the line you drew in the sand about what is allowed and not and they will dance all over that line, jumping to either side as they try to push the limits.

With Bots in the game, about the only thing you can do is go see if they are still there. If they are not, something was done, if they are, something was not done. What was done or not, and why, well, just remember, the two things you never want to see are sausages being made and fragile packages being shipped. Both processes will just scare you and give you nightmares and make you seriously question why you tried. You can add moderating of a gamer to that mix.

umm ... what is bad about seeing sausages being made?

In another game I played if you were online when you were banned an NPC would appear and 'kill' you with a very obvious animation.

Something like that could be a good compromise because it made it clear people were getting banned (especially because this animation wasn't used anywhere else so if you saw it you knew what had happened) but the persons name plate disappeared and they became unselectable as soon as it started so there was no 'naming and shaming' going on. (Unless you somehow knew in advance it was going to happen, but as far as I know that only happened once when someone deliberately sacrificed a spare account in order to film the banning.)

    GW1

Dhuum came out of the ground and killed you with his reaper's sickle. It was awesome to see it happen.
It also sent a strong message to people not to exploit in the game.

It would be awesome to have a huge Molag Bal come out of the ground and stomp a bot it would be banned.

However ZoS is not obligated to tell anyone anything.

    you new to mmo?

no MMO dev/mod team ever tells you what happens to reports.

ff11/ff14 does give numbers but no names.

People can be falsely reported for bans, it happens often. It woukd suck to get an unjustified ban,and have my user name out there just to get bullied in a game.

I was 72 hour temp from WoW after 5 min of gameplay, due to asking the forums how to report a group of people for calling me a wh ore. I was new to the game, and not sure how to report or block people as the commands were different then my other mmo.

I wish people would learn more about how mmo work instead of making lame threads like this.

I guess I'm no longer obligated to report hackers and cheaters in this game, is that right? Good to know so that my time wont be wasted reporting cheaters and botters in this game... I'll just grab my bucket of popcorn, and watch frustrated players complain on this forum about how theirs so many cheaters and botters ;)

If it will spare us any more of your posting, please don't report anyone in the future.

About 5 days ago I've spotted a potential botter that was botting near the Dolmen. The obvious signs were there... I reported the bot in the game, and was then given a ticket# and an automatic response:

    Response

The dwellers of Tamriel thank you for taking time from your adventures to report this offense. Maintaining the integrity of the land is a priority. We will investigate this matter and take appropriate action.

To protect individual privacy, we do not disclose the outcome of our investigation.

Please also be aware that you can add players whose behavior you find objectionable to the ignore list. To do this, open your contacts list (default: O) and click on the "No Entry" icon in the upper right corner. Now you have the option to add players. You can also do this by right-clicking on a player's name and choosing "Ignore". Once this is done, messages from the player in question will no longer be able to reach you.

If you are playing on a console, please contact Sony / Microsoft directly for more information on how to ignore or report a player who you feel is in violation of Sony or Microsoft’s Terms of Service.

Thank you for your continued interest and support!

    Warm Regards,
    The Elder Scrolls Online Team

So ZOS :) Why won't you inform me of the results of your investigation? Perhaps my observation was wrong, and that I wand up reporting an innocent player? How can I learn from my potential mistakes if you won't let me through your guidance from the outcome of your investigation? You mention in the email that it's to protect the privacy of the individual... well the very moment that I filed up a report I became apart of it, and therefor I think I have the right to know the results from the outcome of your investigation.

umm nope you have zero right to know the outcome of an investigation lol try again

This game needs a public ban/infractions forum. Allow people to publicly object and defend their ban/infraction/suspension and lock the thread once judgement has been passed. It is transparant, creates trust and it will stop the whine of those that think ZOS doesn't do anything. Many forums do this. Why not this one?

As much as I wish they had a dev only section in the forums that told us, how many people got banned for cheating how many suspended for exploiting, boting, etc etc, at least then we know zos is doing something, like it is now they leave us with the perception they are doing nothing, I have not seen a thread of someone complaining my friend got banned and he was not doing anything wrong for a long time now.

I always enjoyed reading Eve's security team dev blogs. Of course, ZOS can't sell dev blogs for crowns (and "community" is just a word to them), so we'll never see that kind of engagement.

The whole taboo of name and shaming makes no sense...

In general, it makes no sense. In life generally, and particularly on this forum, people need to HTFU a bit and grow a spine. If someone posts like a smug jackass, I should be able to call them one. I know; I don't have to be here, right? Besides, I never insult people, I just describe them.

When it comes to cheating in a video game, however, there's plenty of posts in this thread, including one before you posted, explaining why you don't want to give away free intel to the people who make the tools for cheating.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

To protect individual privacy, we do not disclose the outcome of our investigation.

When you click ok and agree to those three screens. You are agreeing to this policy and so is ZOS. But if you have an issue with that, you can make an inquiry:
If you have any questions, complaints or comments regarding our Privacy Notice or practices, please contact us via email at privacy04@zenimax.com, by phone at (301) 963-2000, or by regular mail at:

I took a look at their privacy policies and they are not going to discuss such issues on the forums. Those three methods are your only options. I wonder if you'll try to use them?

I remember when ESO was first launched being in a delve when a GM appeared and instructed everyone who was in control of his/her character to step well away from him. The bots surrounding him were then hit with a massive AOE and booted from the server. Impressive!
