Effective Crit Chance For Critical Surge?

Without using any DoT, fighting a single target, is 40% critical chance enough to keep sustain? Or since I don't have any DoT, should I run vigor instead of critical surge, if so where else can I get Major Brutality? I need sustain for 1v1 PvP, but I am limited on ability slots(at most can add one or remove one), and cannot trade out an armor set.

If you were to get rid of it, you would most likely need to use Rally from 2h for brutality and a burst heal while still slotting Vigor. Even with crit surge, you still need to slot Vigor. There is just too much incoming damage in Cyrodiil to depend on crit surge alone.

Also, you'll need dots rolling or DW flurry to see consistent returns from it even with a higher crit chance. Weaving light attacks and bashes would help.

I will asume you´re using a stamsorc. 40% crit is way to low. If you´re doing pve content i would suggest that you reach 65-70%+ critchance before using it (for pve)

For PvP 40% critchance can still work, but as previous post states you´ll the majorbrutality buff from rally. And stamsorc also have dark deal for sustain.

Thief mundus stone
major savagery from fighter guild skill
medium armor crit bonus
dual wield dagger crit bonus
and champion point passive for crit bonus

it should be easy to get 60% crit rate or higher

I run a bow/bow stamsorc with 50 (and growing % crit chance). With Crit Surge, Hurricane and her own Arrow Barrage on top of her, her red bar is exploding with life as she plinks away with light attacks and judiciously blocks while swarmed by normal foes. She surrenders mobility to be under her own Barrage but when cornered in tight spaces it can be very helpful at augmenting all the Hurricane crits heals.
