No reason and this is great. No annoying people around, no duels, no chat spamming. Sweet.
Are you logging onto the game to sit around your house and do nothing?
Sounds like fun to me (not) and unless they have said otherwise, you will probably find that you will still see spam chat.

I think the question should be turned around - why have a house?
As someone who does not have their own banker or merchant, I presume I would still need to go to town to visit them, so I may as well use the towns crafting facilities and wayshrine while I am there.

Without storage in housing I foresee no need for me to have it. It is simply another cosmetic item like a fancy hat or a wedding dress - have them if you want but they serve no practical purpose.

Stores, more people, more interaction, quests, guilds, etc.
I but I understand why you would be skeptical of homes, sweetrolls will definitely take people away!!

I'm logging to do daily quests and run dungeons. 3 unknown players in PUG is enough communication for me.
But I can agree, houses will have no sense if they will provide less functionality than city hubs. I think we should be able to start crafting writs and pledges quests from our houses. Otherwise there is no point to stay home.

You will still have to go to city banks to access a guild bank and guild traders as well as picking up pledges.

The bank, I guess - although using crowns you can get a banker to go into your new home...
Daily quests.... but that's limited to a few cities I believe?
Guild Traders seem to be the best reason...

    Is there anything else?

    To Troll zone chat?
Seriously, though - crafting stations are only part of the writ crafting process. You still need to pick up the writ and drop it off. You also need to feed your horses daily.

As others said, there are also daily quests in different cities.

You can't lfg in your house, you can't repair gear in your house, there are no guild traders in your house, there are no questgivers in your house, etc. I do believe that houses will somewhat decrease the population in major cities on average, but I don't anticipate it being a very severe drop after the first couple of weeks and everybody already has their primary house decorated. Also keep in mind that a lot of players give 0 ships about housing so they'll be around towns in perpetuity. Honestly we could use the drop in lag for some players in Rawl-Kha anyway, so it's probably going to beneficial for everyone!

Good question, back in SWG, the cities were jumping the cantinas full of players, when housing and then player cities came into the game the static cities were dead, the game gave the impression no one was on, I hope they do not fall into a game of ghost towns here.

I imagine it would not change. People primarily go to the towns to visit guild traders, pick up Undaunted pledges or advertise in zone chat to sell/buy something.

The popular crafting stations will always be the locations where you can make set items.

with most things people make gear wise, they are already not in cities but out at the set making locations, so I don't see this being a big thing.

Most likely you'll still need to go to cities for guild banks and guild trader access. You'll still need to visit for other guild's trader NPCs as well.

    +Writs
    +Undaunted Enclave
    +Mage Guild/Fighter guild stuff

Agreed. Though people still visited crafting stations in town to deconstruct and refine.

Housing will likely have some impact on city populations - though the biggest draw (Guild Traders) remains intact. So they won't be ghost towns.

In any case - I much rather have a bad azz house to decorate and store as trophies the severed heads of my enemies in than a few more people in town when I visit. So it's a trade-off I welcome.

I'm glad I will have a nice place to escape zone chat. Sure it might be a cavern somewhere in Craglorn but it will be a peaceful cavern. If I get bored of the cavern I will make the trip to my Imperial manor outside of Elinhir.

yeah they need to make cities live again to give people incentive to go to them.

for example: message boards- here guilds could advertise- instead of spamming chat. crafters could post their services- people looking for groups could have a temporary wall, it would be a nice social thing to do.

Still have too go outside for crafting set locations. Most people dont have an npc trader or banker so those too.

Well there are those skills quests, people seem to. It things from guild traders and .... progression only happens outside in different places.

I do hope that dueling finds its way to homes. Like certain ppl spam house duels and ppl flock to battle turf stuff or something.

(I don't like duels in towns)

I'm all about that rp life and mursions so I'll still be towning it up and stuff. Plus traders and undaunted conclave and dailies. I still like my duels in epic spots outside of town though.

It's a good question. But as you can from many of the answers this game's core audience is not online gamers. Housing will help segregate the two groups better bringing more peace of mind to both.

we visited cities and Stayed in cities in elder scrolls titles previously, and we had housing housing in morrowind, oblivion, and in skyrim.
housing wont change our going to the cities.

    Fair point, OP.

Will still have to go turn in your pledge quests if you do those.

After that, no ... with crafting stations and a banker/merchant option, players can now be that hermit they always aspired to be.

Housing will only depopulate Tamriel for a short time until players get bored of housing.

That will happen very quickly once people have made and placed their fancy decorations but still have an inventory full of things and nowhere to store them.

To use the bank (with guild bank access) and merchant (with armor repairs). It's doubtful you'll be able to access anything but the gimped versions of the banker and merchant at your house. So you would at least need to go to town for armor repairs, even if you're not in a guild.
