Why do I get punished to play broken-boring-buggy PVP to gain basic skills (Vigor)?

Well I must tell that I'm very competetive player, previously played CS professionaly and BF. Exactly because of that I wanna puke when I play PVP campaign in ESO.
2017 at the gates, and it was very strange to see someone developing a PVP game avoiding any kind of rock-scissors-paper system. You got your char cp561? Your enemy is cp10? So there's literally no way he can kill you.

Well maybe I get it wrong and this is the way it's supposed to be in MMO. So ok, I won't play it because it disgusts me... but wait, I do need to get the alliance skills. Because the skills are good, actually some of them even basic for many builds. So I have to enter again and again trying to grind somehow experience points. I feel like I'm punished.

Not to speak about amount of bugs, sudden kicks, neverending loading screens etc...

So if you ask me - make those skills purchasable. I'm ready to pay but not to play PVP anymore. That's it, I'm done with it, enjoy your game.

The fact is, ESO is an MMO. MMOs have both PVP and PVE. Some things are gained though PVP, some through PVE. This has always been and always will be the case.

Secondly, you do not need Vigor (or any other skill) to be viable. You do not need it to be successful. If you want to min/max or perform at the highest level possible, getting access to these skills is a non-issue.

I don't know . If it was up to me I wouldn't lock any skills behind PvP unless they could only be used in PvP . You really can get it with money . Just buy wall repair kits and siege repair kits and stay out of the fight . Walls upgrade and need repairs all the time .

Vigor is by far the best healing option for all stamina builds except Stam Sorc.

In my opinion it should be swapped with trap beast in the fighters guild.

If you are staying on PVE you do not need any PVP skills to be capable and competent. If people state you need to have PVP skills to run trials and such with them, then you just need to find other people to run with. I have run trials (normal mode) and most vet dungeons without having any of the alliance skills.

Players who are not interested in PVE have to at least play it to level up, get skills and skill points, so I don't see any issue with making some of the 'better' skills only available via PVP. It only took me a weekend to unlock vigor on my latest character, a relatively short time when you look at leveling other things in the game.

EDIT: ..and I am against making any skill purchasable.

I came from battlefield too; bc2, bf3 and then bf4 which caused me to abandon the franchise. I draw the line at exploding paper aeroplanes launched with impunity from the other side of the map. Dice screwed up by adding a load of troll mechanics to what was always a skill-based game, imo at least. The counter-knife mechanic was the most balanced thing they came up with and they left it out of bf1.

Yeah pvp is highly unbalanced but I find it fun when I look for fights myself. I won't try to convince you though. With regards to needing to pvp to unlock skills for pve; as a pvper I resent needing to grind undaunted all the way to rank 9 to unlock a passive regarded as crucial for pvp. So it works both ways, no unfairness with this.

Why am I forced to.run VMA 300+ times and still not have my sharpened 2h weapons? Why most I farm Darkshade a 100+ times to get a sharpened 1h sword. Why does I have to.grind for weeks to get undaunted 9?Why does the rain in ESO not look like real ran.

You can do everything in this game without vigor as a stam build you can do every Vet dungeons ,every overland quest VMA and vet trials. You don't need vigor you want it.It wasn't needed for builds until they lower the rank for it so more people had it.Personally I think they should make vigor cost 10 million AP to unlock.

I've played the game since the beginning. I have never used Vigor as it is in a PvP skill line and I don't PvP.

    I hear it's nice though.

Why exactly do you feel you NEED it to be viable?

I've often argued against the idea of making Vigor accessible without doing PvP - I've always thought that it's good to encourage people to experience some different content, at least for a little while, as is also the case for PvPers who want PvE sets. Now, however, PvP is such a painful mess - if you're not fully prepared for it - which most people coming in from PvE won't be - you'll be the squishy guy getting chewed up and spat out by the aprocalypse.

As long as PvP can offer at least some novel entertainment, I'm all for using vigor to get people to come check it out. In the current state I completely understand why you may loathe the very idea of spending a single moment in Cyrodiil.

Its not like it takes a long time to get vigor unlocked not like it used to be.. There are plenty of other ways for good heal ie rally on the 2h bar, blood craze etc on the DW bar, even the bow bar has a heal with scattered shot morph. Vigor just make the healing so much easier though.

No group content requires you to have vigour, you have healers to heal you and other basic stamina heals for "just in case" situations, even potions.
Vigour is a PvP skill because PvP is much different - it's a dynamic environment where you have to rely on your own skills for the most part and be able to keep yourself alive, even if you are in a group, as you have no tanks that can "taunt" your enemy and draw attention away from your healers, thus making you often not getting any heals and leaving you to fend for yourself. Not to mention you need immediate heals for solo play, to counter hard hitting players etc, none of that is present in PvE, you avoid red circles, block and interrupt and dodge - you are fine, minimal healing required.

PvE and PvP require completely different approaches which is why vigour is a PvP skill.
While a nice skill to have in PvE, it's far from mandatory. Solo content is a steamroll and barely requires any healing whatsoever (I can even solo world bosses without ever hitting vigour once) and in a group setting your focus should be your role, as your heals will be provided by the role who specialises in it - the healer.
However if you are one of these Rambo Jenkins's types who has to rush everywhere head first and gets massive aggro on yourself and need desperate heals, then the problem isn't lack of vigour, the problem is YOU.

I hated being front knifed in bf3 so when they introduced counter-knife I was extatic lol. I thought the preference for knifing people rather than shooting them was stupid, selfish and would often get your team mates killed. The amount of times I was shot from across the map only to see a team mate immediately knife them in the kill cam, and thinking to myself "if they had only chosen to shoot them rather than run 100m to knife them..". So I made a point of never knifing except for counter-knifes. Of course they had to be followed up with a t-bag ;)

I loved bf3 so much (even after supression was amped up), would still say it was my fave game ever, and I was so disappointed with bf4. I admit I haven't played it since it was apparently fixed, I have my doubts though.

Is it really so hard to buy wall repair kits and repair walls?
I Was only a PVEr I got in to pvp doing a long grind for vigor when it was acctually hard I used to dislike it. Then I started to like it.
One of the things I have learned on my journey is; Idon't like repairing walls, it costs me money. I'd rather chase the enemy, thing is they put holes in the walls and I can't leave it like that. So I have to spend money fixing it. I'd rather someone else do it so I can chase the enemy and they don't get though those almighty gaps they blasted through. It's Win win you get to pay and not pvp and short of the few people running for emporer most won't mind (because if you pvp you end up broke fixing/buying things) if you want to purchase it, do it with in game gold fixing walls.

Hehe about counter knifing, you could do that in BF3 a lot, then on BF4 it was a intended feature, lost count of how many tags I have taken in the BF games, nostalgia trip.

You might want to take note ZoS, different genre, but same problems, balancing, lag, etc.

Lol, hey dont say that, I used to run with a highly mobile assault squad, hit hard and fast, but I did love knifing people, more so if it was a friend and hearing them rage or panic when I was in a knifey mood.
Yeah t-bagging had to be done, still remember that on quake lol, think it was born there, then UT and CS started doing it.

Yeh BF3 was good, bit too like CoD for my tastes, but was a nice meet of the 2 games, BF4 was good too, but could have been better, lol was more of a grind on them games than most of the stuff on here innit?

I wont go near BF1 till they have patched it more, lol

Repair kits don't cost a lot when you compare them to other PVP items like Ballistas, Forward Camps, etc. Fixing walls and doors is just a way to earn easy AP for me and there are always plenty of people happy to do it.

It's like res'ing other players instead of leaving them dead and chasing down the enemy, you get a small amount of AP for it and a sense of satisfaction.

Lol, it takes hardly any time to unlock Vigor, you would have loved the grind to get it before they nerfed the ap needed to get it to the ground

So adapt, its never been easier to get Vigor

Haha it's cool, I won't judge, I know I'm in the minority with those opinions, my clan mates used to take the ***. I was in favour of some arguably op aspects of the game (rex, aek, f2000) so I'm in no position to judge. Anyway sorry for going off topic, can't even remember the topic lol.

To maximize your stam char, you have to unlock vigor and caltrops.

I was clueless at PvP when I first joined. Now it takes me around 10-12 hours to unlock caltrops from 0 AP char.

If you're not sure what to do, open the map and see where the actions are. Are we defending one of the keeps because they're attacking? or vice versa. Defending, assaulting keeps or killing players, these are what you should focus on IMO.

Gear yourself accordingly & redistribute your CP also help. Killing boss in Delves in Cyrodiil grants you 60 minutes of 20% AP boost also.

I wouldn't say it's a punishment, but you certainly need to make some efforts. Good hunting.

Why do I get forced to play boring, more time consuming, and even buggier pve dungeons to get undaunted maxed?

*for the record, I always recommend to people who hate pvp to go into blackwater early on and spam rapid regen and wall repair to get the skills they want unlocked. It's a lot friendlier to newer and less experienced players. And if you really hate fighting, you seriously can get vigor unlocked just wall repairing. That in combination with a lot of duels, defenses of keeps, and 1vxing got me proxy det at level 14.

How the hell are you comparing a FPS to an mmo? What does that have to do with anything?
Because that FPS is more balanced then this MMORPG.

Thanks for answers, there are some really constructive while some are just making jokes or don't know what they are talking about. Like "get gut" dude who says that there's no problem for cp10 to kill cp561..

But seriously, are there people who enjoy this PVP? Do you feel satisfaction when you kill your opponent? Do you feel frustrated when he kills you? Because after playing real competetive games like FPS or online poker I don't feel it at all. There's no confirmation that you have killed someone when you do, 5 mages casting "eye of the storm" at the same point don't even know who caused the damage (unless you run some extra addons), it's like the developers didn't even try for players to have an enjoying pvp experience. Even the frustration that I feel mostly of "damn I will have to run 5 minutes again now to get there" kind. The biggest frustration for me is that I have to play it to gain access to a good skill tree.

So for those who are into "get gut" - you are wasting your time on minority pvp game, there are no tournaments, there's no teamplay (comparing to games like CS and BF3), it's just a waste of time pvp game. Ofcourse you wanna get gut in it, continue on :-)

And those comparing PvE vs PvP well the game has proved itself in PvE, the PvE is really good and you can see alot of newcomers coming and enjoying it. While in PvP majority of players are maxed out characters, hence the most devoted people who are ready to take any crap ZoS will put them on the plate.

Generally I know when I kill people, as I love running full cheestato builds and not only do I get feedback for landing tremorscale (***-THUMP from landing the proc is obvious) but when I hit my final execute normally it's either me, or another player nearby, who got the finishing blow.

Seeing revenge text is also a good indicator of landing the finishing blow. Especially if you are running in a group (Cyrodiil is group PvP.)
