Why does "Elemental Susceptibility I" conjuration ability won't gain xp when I use it?

I use it a lot on enemies and I gain absolutely no xp during those times. I don't understand why but all I can assume it may be a bug. Unless I'm *** ***.

Ability description:

"Send the elements to sap an enemy's defeses, afflitching them with Major Breach, which redcudes Spell Resistance by #### for ## seconds.

Any damage you deal to the enemy refreshes the effect's duration."

It should be leveling up, as long as it's slotted on your active skill bar when you kill an emeny.

Skills level up when you gain xp, not immediately as you cast them. And only the slotted skills on your current skill bar.

So for example if you cast this spell on an enemy from your back bar then weapon swap back to your main bar and kill said enemy, the spell won't level up.

It is slotted on my main skill bar. I have been killing enemies while the ability was on them. I understand the immediate cast won't give xp but I'm just confused why it won't give me any levels after all I did.

assuming you've actually grinded out a good amount of experience, then I suppose it's possible that the ability simply has nothing to scale by leveling so it just doesn't level... and no one has noticed until now because ele drain is the only morph that matters in pve.

While not the same thing, but pretty close... why is it some skills take an eternity to even level up? Seems like they leveled faster back when i was under level 50, now it's a struggle

Because the skills that come first in a skill line level-up much faster than the 4th and 5th one. They just take more XP level up.

The more important question is, why would you want to level that skill in the first place? The other morph (elemental drain) is just so much better. Recasting a debuff every 20 sec isn't that much struggle and gaining ~500 magicka every time you hit your target with elemental damage is great for your ressource management.

This is true, also bar swapping is good.

Skills don't gain levels based on frequency of use.
They level if they are slotted on your bar as you gain exp.

Skills that require higher level of Skill lines to unlock also require much more experience to level.
For example, you can level Destructive Touch really fast to the point where you can morph it.
While it will take you ages to level Impulse.

Same goes for all Weapon skill lines and Class skill lines.

And in case you didn't know, one the fastest ways to level any skill - whether you're using it during fights or not, is to slot it on the weapon bar that is active right before you turn-in quests.

I even use an add-on called SWAPS that lets you save a skill set and switch to that set either from the skills pane or with a hot-key for this.

It's not all SWAPS is good for either. It comes in handy if you have different set-ups for solo, group, DPS, healing, etc.

Have it slotted when you turn in quests and pledges. It will level just fine.
