I use the same thing in my sorc and it's awesome, got me to flawless pretty fast, I have a full run video and build here:

Actually never thought about the passive
Is it really worth putting in all the points? You would have to erase a lot in elfborn and elemental expert.

Looking forward to that! My mag dk is level 13, but I'll test it definitely when he's leveledI like the playstyle of heavy attacks, very easy dps and highly survivable!

It's actually a sorc setup initially and then I did try a similar style on the DK so it can be used for both just different skill rotation. I find the sorc to be more effective as it can be played from 17-28m away depending, which is a LOT more viable than face mashing with a DK.

Maybe you can look into my build and see how I can improve it further. As I did flawless vma and all vet trials except vMoL with it, it can't be that bad.
Magick Dragonknight
5 elegant, 4 overwhelming, 2 molag kena.
Firestaff/lightning staff.
start with molten armament, then your little fire thing that shoots every 5 secs, 2 light attacks to proc kena, fire staff heavy attack into a destructive fire reach, switch bar to lightning staff and do heavy attack.
Watch people melt, you are welcome.
Not the best build, but it sure is fun. Just make sure you got spell damage enchants on your weapons

Nope, but I can do it again, upload it and post it. Have exams right now, which is why I have limited playtime

I was thinking about using my aether/elegance/vMA Lightning staff build on my magicka dk with a vMA Resto on back bar for the arena and was wondering if the 40% buff from molten Armaments buffs every tick of the channeled attacks, or only the last one. Can't test it myself atm, so I'd be happy if someone could help me
Has anyone tried this and can confirm one or the other?

lightning staff is the only offensive weapon which its basic dmg is directly boosted through 3 CP stars: elemental expert, thaum and staff expert

4 CP stars. You forgot elfborn.
For a mDK I would recommend Infallible Aether + Sergeant's Mail. Your heavy attacks will hit much harder than with elegance. That's what I use for vMA on my mDK and it's pretty easy to get on the leaderboards with that setup.
Sergeants mail is heavy armor isn't it? And it's bonuses are pretty weak for a magicka char, but I heard it's pretty good, I might give it a try! Getting on the leaderboards was my intention as well.
I've been doing some math:
An example that fits would be 8k per tick of the heavy attack, which is similar to what i get right now, depending on enemies resistance. Elegance would boost that by 1.6k (8k*1.2), which is basically the same as sergeant's mail. But the first four passives from elegance increase the damage of everything else by a lot more (more max magicka, more spell damage. Plus, you need to use three healthy jewelry from sergeant's mail if i'm not mistaken, which takes out a lot of max magicka. If there is arcane jewelry, it might be worth considering, but i cant see the set out-dpsing elegance right now....

I have tried elegance. Seargent's mail is just better for heavy attack DPS but elegence will help your other skills.
Here's the secret to my 100k heavy attacks though. Use sergeant's, aether, VMA lightning staff and thief. Then I use a charged resto staff with a shock enchant on the back bar to help proc off balance in the lightning wall of elements. With my precise staff I am at 70% crit chance. So when the enemy is off balance in my wall of elements and I am fully self buffed up with molten armaments, combat prayer, rearming trap, and Standard of Might each critical tick hits for about 22-25k and the final hits pulses for 27-30k although I have seen over 33k+ on the crematorium guards but I think they have like negative shock resistance because they are what I hit the hardest.
