My Mag Sorc is using 7 light, 5x Kagrenac's, 3x Necropotence, 3x Spinner's with the +max magicka and magicka regen food buff, although this is only my first iteration of the build and I plan on doing more experimenting when I need to get new gear. I believe my stats come out to around 2.6k spell damage, 2k magicka regen, and 40k max magicka. Since I decided to focus solely on getting Hardened Ward rather than Streak or Mines, I figured I'd try to stack max magicka to make the most out of my shields. While the spell damage and regen are lower than I'd typically like on other builds, I still find that I do plenty of damage (I've seen 10k+ CFrags crits) and practically never run out of magicka. Like @ChapterMasterV said, I also tend to play my Mag Sorc much more aggressively, using shields much more reactively than preemptively (although I am quickly learning to use shields preemptively so that I can eat a CC to help conserve my stamina pool). I also agree that timing seems to be very important for burst on a Mag Sorc, and I could see how less experienced players could really struggle with maintaining a good rotation in the heat of battle. Personally, I've found that Curse, Destructive Reach, Crystal Frag with medium weaves times out about perfectly so that the CFrag hits right as the Curse goes off and before most players can CC break the Destructive Reach.

I use endless fury, and it is an amazing finisher, imo the best other than jesus beam. It is great for a couple reasons, the most prominent being that it stays on the person for a few seconds before it has to proc. Occasionally I will throw in and endless fury before my curse goes off and the curse will bring them to that magic 20% mark, and since they are at such low health, it usually kills them. In a zerg fight, it is hands down the best execute imo, because you can have as many out as you want, within the 4 seconds it stays on, and it does not need to be your attack that brings them down to 20% to proc. I used to use vicious death, so this was amazing for me, as I would put endless fury on practincally anyone under 50% health, and if anyone in my group brought them down to 20%, I get that kill and do massive damage to those around him, both from the proc and vicious death.

Note: I prefer endless fury over mages wrath because the aoe damage is not great, and when you are fighting more that one opponent, the magicka back is amazing for your sustain.

Edit: for those curious why I say this: you lack the redundancy of a second proc set like in vet and the proc seems to scale with level - so if you wanna farm up stuff to hit me for 2k ticks, go ahead.

Had some good fights last night. Dusted off my AD character and killed a bunch of EP. I still feel like MagDK is the way to go.

@Adenoma & @ChapterMasterV I appreciate the advice. I would go with 7L, but I just have so many more Grain Solvents than Elegant Linings!! Being poor sucks, but I did just sell some dust for a nice boost in gold... hmmm.

Talking on sustain...in 7H, my stam NB has 2400/1400/1300 s/m/h regen, respectively. He is using tri-drinks, wearing 5pc tavas, 3/4pc Mork, and using 3pc Salvation jewelery with stam regen enchants. So for stat set-bonuses he gets 3 stam regen, 2 max stam, 1 magicka regen, 1 max health, and 1 weapon damage when I'm on my 1h/s bar.

He does get +15% to all regen for being a nb, but sorcs get +10% magicka regen and a 5% cost reduction... if I add in vampire passives (worth it for Elusive Mist?) that should lead to even better magicka sustain as a sorc in 7H than as a nb in 7H, assuming appropriate gear sets for a mag user, right?

It's just hard for me to hear "you need 7L for sustain" when I have a 7H nb who has incredible sustain.

Instead of relying on Dampen Magic and Healing Ward to survive I could use Healing Ward and Dark Deal while getting a nice boost to mitigation/healing from heavy armor/passives as well as making up for my lack of stamina regen. I know Dark Deal can be interrupted, but with Encase and/or Immovable pots I think it would work out.

I'm thinking:
5pc Kag's Hope
3pc Torug's Pact (seducer/magnus/mara if sustain is still an issue)
3pc Withered Hand jewelry with a mix of regen/spell damage enchants depending on what I need the most

For stat set-bonuses that would give 2 max health, 2.85 spell damage, 2 mag regen, and 2 max mag... seems promising but I would definitely need Streak which is a pain in the ass to unlock early.

Has anyone ever tried a 7H mag Sorc?
