Crown Store nerdrage megathread

Got an email. Invite your friends and family to play Eso for free. @ZOS_GinaBruno I would love to recommend this game. I used to tell friends, family, and people I work with how great it is. I can't do so if you implement crown crates. If one of them gets hooked and blows hundreds, I would feel responsible.

Have to say I'm not really understanding the issue with the crates, are they not just allowing some people if they want to, to gamble on getting a special mount!? This is a choice isn't it, if we don't buy do we get banned from the game?

If the sword of ultimate smiting goes in a box, then I might consider there to be a problem, but I don't see that this is planned to happen.

They'll get there. It may not be planned to happen yet, but don't forget the original "We have no plans for locked rng boxes." Technically they kept their word. The rng boxes aren't locked.

After all the feedback and comments and complaints and suggestions for how to mitigate the rngesus boxes in the pts thread, the idea that came back in Gina's comment was in effect "Gee. We see you don't like the consumables, so we'll buff them to be better. Maybe tweak the number of gems for duplicates. Maybe allow you to sell back the consumables no one likes or will use for gems. Oh, and to sort of kind of maybe keep the promise to never sell anything in the crown store better than players can make, we'll throw in a recipe that uses two incredibly rare drops to make something similar to the gamble box item that you can use after you get all seven of the original recipe parts that is also an incredibly rare drop."

    snip

i take issue with the bit i put in bold.

'all seven of the original recipe parts that is also an incredibly rare drop' rubbish.

i have the original recipe on one toon. i have a complete recipe and twelve fragments in my bank right now. i have sold four complete recipes and just short of forty fragments. rare?

    i don't think so.

but hey its the internet so a bit more misinformation is expected.

@jedtb16_ESO oh cool. So since they added even better xp scrolls to crown crates... How many of the new ingredients have you gathered? The cipher and dust.

perhaps you misunderstood the point of my post. i was simply challenging the idea, by example, that the psijic ambrosia fragments were, somehow, super rare.

i made no mention of the new recipe or mats.

but hey whatever... have i found either?

    no.

    does that concern me?

    no.

but why aren't you concerned? surely this is further proof of zos's evil machinations....

    well... no.

it was about a fortnight (that's 2 weeks or fourteen days for the uninitiated) before i got my first perfect roe and about three weeks before i got my first recipe fragment.

and the new stuff was released on saturday 12th november.....that's just 5 days ago....

So? According to you, the recipes and ingredients should be falling like rain.

Problem is, not everyone has the luck you do. Some people have managed to find the rare drops, and are pricing them for sale accordingly. Others, well, not so much. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/303851/mythic-aetherial-ambrosia-and-farming

How long before you claim those are easily found? Some people have found them. So that means everyone that hasn't is spreading "misinformation", right? I have one character that has cleared two zones for the fishing achievement. I've gotten 2 perfect roe in all of the hundreds of fish. Your experience was different. Congratulations. Perfect roe is still not considered to be a routine drop. One of my guilds had a fishing tournament. One person filleted over a thousand fish. He ended up with 5 perfect roe. A few dozen bait roe. Another participant went through 800 fish and got none. RNG gremlins being nice once in a while doesn't make an item commonplace.

Now Ta runes? Yeah, those are pretty easy to find.

perfect roe is not as rare as you claim..... i get 1 per 50 to 70 fish. if you search these forums you will find other people telling you similar things.

i'll state it again since you obviously missed it the first time round...

Pathetic? Okay. Rng doesn't play the same with everyone. And I have seen threads about it. So whatever you say. Your experience is what everyone in the game is having, and those people who aren't getting the drops and finding items are all wrong. The people who have come to complain about refining a thousand ore and getting no gold tempers or going through a thousand fish with no roe are simply deluded.

Even with the token system of Crown Gems, and even with being able to sell back stuff for Crown Gems, the RNG in this game causes fear and loathing. To have that sort of thing tied to the spending of REAL CASH is a problem. ZOS has spent no time building trust in their RNG. The nature of low probability drops is such that no one can tell whether it is the blind hand of RNG, or whether ZOS is in there silently tweaking things because the drop rate is not what they expected. Do they tell us every time they change the drop rate? Magic 8 Ball says Probably Not.

In the end, ZOS has no track record when it comes to the RNG. Are they honest? We don't know. I guess we assume so. I have no reason to think they would be dishonest about the RNG, but they rarely tell us anything. The RNG just is, and we have no idea whether it is even working. It causes complaints when it is used for in-game drops, and will be exponentially worse for drops tied to cash spending.

The company that is likely behind this, Bethesda Softworks, is venturing into this field with experts telling them what to do, and what they have done for other games. I question whether the people who like to buy Elder Scrolls games, some Bethesda Softworks core customers, are really the people who want paid RNG content in their RPG game. It is different with the Fallout Shelter lunch boxes. It is different with the Elder Scrolls Legends card game. In these places, paying to play the RNG is expected. As common as this might be for MMO games, it is well outside of that for their branded RPG games.

Know how some players claim things are easy to find? Yeah, not so much.

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/304694/hotfix-11-22-16-aetheric-cipher-drop-rate-pc-mac-only

    Hey guys,

We just completed a hotfix on the PC/Mac megaservers that will increase the chance for Aetheric Cipher to drop throughout the world. There is no patch to download, and you don't need to relog for this change to take effect.

    Thanks!

    Newer player here,

This crown crate idea smells of exploitation of those with an addiction to gambling and compulsiveness. I do not like the idea and feel it is immoral. If you want to sell stuff, sell stuff. Not a chance at stuff.

It's like having a burglar put a gun to your head and say "I'm going to shoot you. BUT I WON'T TELL YOU WHEN".

Ok, maybe a bit extreme, but you see where I'm going with this.

It is extreme but it is also on point. Because they were not in the Showcase, we keep expecting them to be stealth-added at any time.

    It's unnerving.

Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Right? I consider it a good day if I get one per 200 fish
