Would you like the ability to level fishing?

ESO definitely need to upgrade the fishing system something more mini-game'ish. Archeage had a very awesome fishing system. C'mon even on Stardew Valley there is a fishing mini-game.

No, adding a grind to fishing would just kill it as a relaxing pastime.

I would adore to have fishing skill line, and to level it to 50.

    Passives would be like this
    • Angler 1-4 - allow you to catch fish of green/blue/purple/gold quality (unlock at lvl 5/25)
    • durable string 1-2 - increases string durability 50%/100% (unlock at lvl 10/30)
    • Every stone turned 1-2 - nods that contains bait for fishing have 50%/100% chance to yield double resource (unlock at lvl 15/35)
    • Master bait  - bait lasts twice as long (unlock at lvl 20)
    • Filleting 1-3 - increase chance of getting perfect roe by 2/3/6% (unlock at lvl 30/40/50)
    • Death proof - slaughterfish damage taken reduced by 50% (unlock at lvl 50)

I like these except for the last one, because that one can actually give an advantage in Cyrodiil by allowing you to potentially cross some bodies of water while your enemies get eaten by slaughterfish. I am of the opinion that fishing should be as self-contained as possible so that people only do it because they enjoy it. But that's just my opinion, of course.

I would replace the last one for maybe the ability to use any bait on any kind of water without getting used bait back, while having increased chance of getting special fish if you use the right kind of bait. I think this would be useful, because then people who are after perfect roe would use any bait (because special fish can't be filleted for roe) and people who are after the achievements would use the right bait. Or maybe the last one could just give you the ability of filleting special fish, maybe for increased chance of getting perfect roe?
I don't know, there is a lot of things that can be done with fishing.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I'd welcome all additional forms of leveling in a MMO, it's only a grind if your mindset is focused on reaching the destination rather than enjoying the journey. If it's something that is purely optional like fishing then what's to object to?

Can't for the life of me figure out why caught bait doesn't increase your chance of rare fish, though. It seems like such an obvious way to design it.

This! I think about it every time I fish - why isn't it a real deal?! Also, some reward besides the roe would be nice, like few xp for catching rare fish maybe.
"Survivalist" skill line would be great, too.

Yes, and I'll add that a fishing pole slot would be cool. And recipes to craft some different baits that might increase chances at rare fish. And fishing daily quests.

Fishing quests would be great. Another game I played had a series of quests before one could fish at all. But quests regarding fishing certain places and challenges would be a way add to it or find places unexplored.

I can only foresee this as a RP element. Fishing rods never make sense in MMO's as they tend to try and mix a weapon with a crafting requirement....it all just is too much extra if it's not all RP stuff.

That's my opinion....fishing really only needs one of the provisioning passives changed

Sounds nice it seems a lot like my favorite "Rune factory" series. But unless different fish especially the trophy fish have a use other than scaling them for roe this will be rather pointless...

I would like to see fishing reworked. Make it so you actually have to play the rod some to land a fish. Would also like to see a small chance to catch a mini boss that is going to attack as soon as you land it. Have it drop the same stuff any other boss in the zone would drop.
For leveling maybe at higher levels you have a better chance of getting something decent out of a wet gunny sack or at a certain level you can catch two fish with one cast and have it only count as one for finishing the hole.

Fishing really needs to be more than just a way to get perfect roe and a couple of dyes.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Yes, skill development in Fishing would be very welcome. I'm close to done with Master Angler, and I catch fish at the same rate as someone casting their first line.

Wet Gunny Sacks are currently very sad, except in the super-rare case where I get a decent rune. Maybe just fish up the item directly instead of filling my inventory with sacks I have to open? And put more items in the fishing junk table. Boots & gloves for the zone's set would be nice.

Craftable, skill-level-specific fishing rods would make Woodworking slightly more useful. Racial styles are maybe excess work for such a small feature, but: Glass fishing rod. You know that'd look amazing.

Crafting raw bait into more complex lures with a fishing bonus, and gear sets with fishing bonus, would also be nice.

The holiday cooking recipe to make fishing spots glow and report their type is a nice minor boost, but there's a lot more that can be done.
