would you be against removing ALL sets...?

And instead adding in 'unique bonuses' per item (IE each crafting location can make a single item with a unique bonus, instead of set items, they would instead exist as weaker versions but on single pieces, allowing someone to truly 'customize' their setup with 10+ 'much lesser' effects rather than 2-3 'big' effects.

I for one would much rather if the crafting/items ingame was more akin to previous es games and less like any other generic MMO.

Make it so that set bonuses have 1/3rd of the values, remove procs, and we've got a sane equipment system going.

just that I'd like to see more 'unique' style items (AKA like master/maelstrom but NOT just weapons)

In all ES games we had specific items that had bonuses that applied to the single item, and no 'sets' u had to build(Honestly that seems more like what you would expect from a diablo game, NOT an elder scrolls game)

but if each item had unique and separate bonuses, one could set up their characters in an almost infinite number of ways. (Much more than what we have now where its 'pick 2 sets and go' )

that actually sounds pretty dope... none of it is just increase max magicka or spell power either, has some cool effect/proc, but at like 1/10 the power of the normal set

With as many sets available in game there is already much room for customization.

I would be against such a wholesale change because the amount of effort required would not be worth any possible result. What works in single player games is often bad for MMOs.

it is a different approach but frankly i dont see it as better or worse or more intriguing or less.

its just a different scheme and could be better or worse than what we have now.

So, i would not suggest changing it. i see no definitive gains.

If we had more customization over what bonus gets applied to what crafted piece of armor, then I'd do nothing but deck out my character with armor stocked full of Crit Chance bonuses, and maybe supplemented with extra damage/regeneration. But Crit Chance is the biggy.

    I could get behind that.

And the game challenges and adversaries etc would be balanced around that and other possible builds.

well on that thought iwas more like this:

Set (Now) for example gives health, stam, magicka, and 2 mundus stones as a 5th piece(twice born)

the idea i had was one item would give a small bonus to health, stamina and magicka. (The 5th piece would be similar)

About the only 'unbalancing' piece/set under the new concept would be tbs(the others would be a smaller 5th bonus but would all gain a smaller form of the 2, 3, 4 piece bonuses)

one would not gain bonus from 2 pieces with the same 'set'

No. Sets add content to farm. Which adds more playtime which adds more fun. Without sets we all be questing. Personally I think the game needs a lot more craftable sets and more powerful sets. That way there's more variety instead of all stam running after one insane set and all mag doing the same.

Like those dragonpriest masks from skyrim with unique effects? :) Provided that bonuses are minor and balanced, I don't see a problem, would make the whole game a lot more interesting than just 'get 5x of this and 5x of that set and a maelstrom weapon and you're good to go' mentality.

Notes on a future game maybe.

An overhaul like that would make you lose way more players than you gain.

WoW really has spoiled people on easy streamlined progression. No wonder blizzard doesn't bother with a new MMO.

I had this in Neverwinter. Please for the love of Meridia do not remove set boni in this game!

It's awesome to theory craft and we finally have an alternative to TBS and willpower.

Also crafting shouldn't the way to go for your bis armor, one set ok, but not the whole. I say this as a master crafter, that would be boring as hell.

Last but not least, this game is not wow. It's better :)

I am against proc sets that do the damage for you. I'm ok with sets that give a bit more magicka, healt, stamina or a bit higher damage so skills are still in play.

Pric sets are terrible for PvE and PvP. Ut makes the game dumb.

Diablo 3 should be ESO's inspiration for set bonuses.

What you describe is pretty similar!

I'd like to follow Diablo 3's variation completely, meaning there are "Legendary" (1-piece) bonuses you can equip and "Set" (2/4/6, 2/3/4/5, 2/3/4, etc etc) you can equip. This is different from the improvement grade of your items.

Diablo 3 also has much more interesting sets. Many revolve around buffing class skills and passives, and there are TONS of sets like these so there is no BiS at all.

Hundreds of great "BiS"-like builds can be created because there are also 5 morphs per skill, often altering damage type/entire functionality rather than the "+20% damage on next attack" or "This is now a Stam morph" we see in ESO.

TLDR: ESO needs to seek inspirtion from Diablo 3 for its sets/skill morphs. Diablo 3 was much more interesting in this regard and did an incredible job of it.

The sets don't need to be removed, just toned down for PvP. After all it should be (P)layer vs (P)layer, not (G)ear vs (G)ear.
