As long as I can remember, there has been a back and forth between players and developers on the subject of game exploits bugs, and true balance. ( Meta )
I’ve seen people defend it, of course, but a lot of those defenses don’t hold a whole lot of weight. Yes, the developers should have fixed exploits, bugs, balance in updates before they went live, but that’s what makes it a mistake instead of a design feature. No, no one should develop game mechanics so tedious that you feel the urge to automate and exploit them, but being meta player doesn’t seem like the proper way of addressing that problem. At the same time, if the developers have left in something that makes the game absurdly easy like finding bugs in sets, or using unbalanced toons then its a go for the tryhard.
And speaking of (Tryhard) thats what i compare these players too. As with many things like this, It's a two pronged issues. The intended use of the insult, and the actual use of the insult.
1) Tryhard as a actual insult is used to reference someone who places the value of being "Good" at a game or activity over the enjoyment of actually doing said activity. For example, we all know that "One guy" who plays games WAY to aggressively cause he just has to win. Being competitive in any game and playing with friends, and you put all your skills, into bugs, exploits, abilities and play unbalanced toons to play look cool and CRUSH PLAYERS BENEATH YOUR IRON FIST. Sure, you won... but nobody enjoyed it, because they are not at your skill level or in fear of looking lika bad player thus being exposed. All you did was shame and embarrass yourself and your friends becuase you and them need the reputation (in game) instead of playing causally (not using exploits meta) and let a few points get scored, showing your better, but not dominating to humiliation.
2) How it gets USED however as with many insults is by people who come into PVP and are upset that they can't preform as well as the people who play more than others and put care into their hobby to be the best they can at it. "Shocker". These people get crushed in the proper context but then try to mock by saying that the person just has no life because they spent the time getting good at the game.
