CP160 Armor of the Trainee.... help me understand

Shortly after the OT patch went live, I started to notice hordes of CP561 players on their speedy mounts running the chest and Thieve's Troves farming routes in Khenarthi's Roost trying to farm CP160+ versions of this. I notice this because I roll a lot of alts there ('cause I'm weird like that) not because I have any desire to farm Armor of the Trainee except for my brand new sub-level 10 alts for whom it's intended.

I know that this set gives a large boost to all 3 core stats but with so many other sets out there that are better for tanking or healing or DPS I'm not seeing the attraction of this gear for end game - especially since the RNG is heavily weighted toward having the training trait instead of Divines or Impen.

I suppose that if someone is all about grinding CP, and they absolutely hate crafting their own gear, the training trait is desirable. Personally I would craft a CP150 set with all Training trait (for the much lower mat requirement) if I wanted to do that...

So help me out here, who and why is wearing this in their CP160+ characters?

    A few reasons;

    1) They're at CP160 and want to get to CP561 or above faster.

    2) They picked up a new skill line, 2 handed, Undaunted, Mage Guild, etc and want to train those skills faster.

Well you said it yourself, the Training Trait. Also, not all of these 561's have done all three starter areas. Quests for all those areas drop Trainee Armor in other traits, so this could be a way to complete a set that has other traits.

Plus, being Tri Stat it does make for a powerful Tanky type character. Mixing 5 pieces in with another Tank Set will be quite effective. Especailly if you go and put Tri Stat Glyphs on the gear on top of it.

Finally, it's not always about max power and stats. We are finally getting to a point in the game where we can gear up for what we want to do and not feel like we are going to get creamed by a Skeever. Niche builds are starting to come back and its about time.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

was wondering the same as OP!

i did consider it as a set for my tank (who wears 2 full 5 piece sets & a monster set) because the increased resources would be useful, but not as useful as other tanking specific sets (for my character & play style)

but the popularity has me wondering if i overlooked something!

The quests give you unique rewards that aren't necessarily training trait. For example, jewels don't come in training and there's Jakarn's machete, a 1h sharpened sword

It's also such a crap shoot. Unlike other tanking sets, this one drops in heavy, light and medium from chests. The chance of getting it in the armor type you want is that much lower.

Oh yeah I know about the quest rewards but I'm talking about RNG grinding the chests and troves. That's what I'm seeing a lot of, not so much questing.

I would of gone down the completing quest route for non training armour & jewelry (which i sold for a very nice price after deciding against the set)

Idk - never met anyone who farmed for this set.

You might spot me in the starter zone but that's just because of my OCD and the need to collect my treasure maps.

Some ppl might want one set in the bank for maxing skills for new toons, but I prefer something crafted at this point. Might even give them some BiS gear if I have it.

Its a pvp set guys, its not hard to figure out. For mag toons it gives you your damage stat, health, and enough stam that you don't need tri stat food. Its particularly good on builds that benefit from max stats.

Shortly after OT came out not everyone knew where and how sets would drop in various traits so everyone saved up or straight up bought all the treasure maps out there in the hope of getting divies/infused/impen versions of the armour pieces but sadly got mostly lumped with Trainee (bit of a giveaway if you ask me).

Now more people are becoming aware of where things are dropping it's only those hoping for a lucky break that would still be farming those routes.

I use it on my magsorc - for PVP..

I decided early on that I would head down the max magicka route - did a few calculations and found that, although not the best - this was ONE of the best sets for increasing magicka. It also gives a good amount of health (needed for PVP) and stamina (Again needed for PVP).

I've managed to get a set that means I'm not wearing any training traits - from a combination of Jewelry (all arcane) and quest rewards that come in other traits. Not best in slot - but at least useful.

The only thing that's bugging me is that I could only ever find blue jewellery. Does it come in purple?

Jewelry comes in purple. Arcane, Robust and Healthy.
Advanced and Master Treasure Chests contain purple items, incl Jewelry.

Trainee gives some really nice statsbonuses and as previous people states some quest give uniqeu rewards. And if you´re lucky enough to get jewels in purple of this set it´s gg. Unfortunatly the weaponswap bug is there with the trainee set as well. (wearing 3 jewel and 2 weapons on both main and backbar) swapping between will cause u to lose the stats.

I noticed that, yes!! Esp health - whenever I weapon-swap, I seem to lose the 5-piece bonus worth of health (until it recovers). I hope they fix that. One day I may just kill myself with a weapon-swap :-)

I use Trainee for VMA (3X Arcane jewelry, 2X Jakarn's Sharpened Swords). It's not BIS, but the stat buffs give me an extra boost to all stats I need, plus a bit of extra stam for dodge rolls and breaking free.

5X Trainee + 5X Mother's Sorrow + 2X Iceheart or 2X Skoria. Crit, damage, mega shields. I find it makes VMA really, REALLY easy for me as I almost never have to worry about taking damage. And I can always port the set over to PVP easily or change out items as needed. I was able to get 531K on VMA without even trying.

Wait what? Armor Of The Trainee is hands down among the most powerful sets in the game. When it comes to giving max stats, nothing comes close to the insane 7.5k max Stat 5th bonus. The closest thing there is, is plague doctor.

Trainee is perfect for all DKs and any Mag build going for max magicka. The Stamina is not wasted, since you can now just use blue food instead of purple.

But yeah, i am of course talking about PvP here.

I believe the purple rings sell pretty expensively, so that is why people grind for them.

The jewelry comes in all flavors from the chests. So a full set of jewelry with health, arcane, or robust trait makes for a powerful set. Get a sword and shield combo that is not training from the quests and bingo. You got a 5 piece set that gives a huge bump to health/stam/magicka.

I run it on my heavy sorc.

Got a purp necklace arcane in my first chest.

Using the heavy reinforced chest quest drop and a heavy waist in training.

Gives enough stam to run the new purp food and CC break forever, also gets me to 30k health.

    Im a big fan.

Fyi weapon switch has always lost 5th set bonus (tbs :( ) and that won't be changing any time soon.

There were(are) a couple interesting pvp builds using trainee and many people try and get ahold of the jewelry and weapons (which can drop from chests or some quest rewards) so they don't have to use armor pieces with training trait on them.

The Willow's Path station is a bit of a trek for a secondary set you can't even complete. Trainee's basically a better version of Willow's, because Trainee has jewelry. That makes it perfect for dual/s&b builds - because you still get two slots open for the monster head and shoulders.

So as a complementary set, Trainee absolutely works.

A complementary set with high versatility
It comes in all weights and Jewelry in all three stat increases.
So you can adapt it to your other 1-2 sets easily.

You are pulling 7500 in stats from the 5 piece. There is no other set in the game that offers that much of a bonus as a 5 piece.

PvP wise you pretty much have a standard when it comes to minimum resource pools (for Magicka at least) by using this set alone it'll give you ~21k health in cyrodiil and 14k stamina. This frees up your choice for for. But on top of replacing your NEED to run tri stat in PvP it also gives you 3500 Magicka which is essentially running 4 pieces of necropotence (better actually). Combo that with your ability to use different foods now to suit your playstyle and it becomes an AMAZING PvP set. I can hit 28k health in cyrodiil in light armor and 48k Magicka like it's nothing.

All I'm saying is don't over look sets, sometimes they can be hidden jewels :)

    I have 4 main characters at CP160.
3 of them wear full sets of CP160 Trainee. And by full i mean all armor pieces, all jewellery and all weapons.

The reason being that you get a really nice boost to your CP experience when killing mobs.

As far as I'm aware, Treasure Hunter doesn't increase the chance of jewelry per say, but it does seem to add, or seriously increase the drop rate of, Zone sets to the loot tables.

I'm also not 100% sure if your thieves guild line affects buried treasure. (It does affect the thieves' caches, now.)
