Crown Store nerdrage megathread

I think there is a big disconnect between why some people play rpg's. A lot of players think as long as it doesn't affect pve aspect of the game, it's fine.

I am likely going to sink around 1000 hours into Skyrim. There isn't much more then 100 hours of actual quests in Skyrim. How can I play that much more then? I get immersed in the world and my character. I seek out anything that helps with that. Cosmetics for my house, character, or just exploring the world.

Cosmetics can personalize a character, and that can help you feel more immersed with the character, and the world. I would be willing to pay for something that helps with that. These crates take advantage of players like myself. It's a crap move, and people should be angry.

in a few parts of the world, its not only sold, but given to addicts by government for exactly that reason, they are going to do it anyways, might as well get them to do it as safely as possible.

The harsh reality is that if someone with a gambling problem is playing this game and not seeking change, then yes that same money would have been gambled away to something else already and I dont have any sympathy. If someone is really wanting to change and working towards it then they have my sympathy, but we cannot design a game for the small percentage this would effect IMO. This is an adults game, in the adult world gambling is widely accepted.

I'm seeing a psychiatrist but already been told it will take a couple of years before I see change. I'm 30 years old and my issues stem from when I was 5. I've only just been offered help. People who want help and beg for it don't always get it.

ESO has/was an extremely beneficial relaxation and escape. Something I could immerse myself in, enjoy the game, the PVP and especially the RP. Now I can't enjoy it. A lot of my enjoyment came from shopping in the store, playing dress up and being a strong shield maiden in a world gone mad. I shouldn't have to gamble to get something I previously could have bought.

Also my gambling addiction has been bad lately so I don't even know if I can allow myself to play anymore.

Edit: Also, ask yourself, who does it harm to NOT add them?

It harms us because it means more over priced crown store items to jerk the lights on at ZOS HQ. And crown crates are not gambling. It's the same as buying a pack of baseball cards.

    o63vh.jpg

You do realise that you could spend hundreds of pounds/dollars/etc.? For one item. Because you can't choose what you buy. It's (low) random chance.

I've also found this for you:

    gamble
    ˈɡamb(ə)l/
    verb
    gerund or present participle: gambling
    1.
play games of chance for money; bet.
    "he gambles on football"
    synonyms: bet, wager, place a bet, lay a bet, stake money on something, back the horses, try one's luck on the horses;
    2.
take risky action in the hope of a desired result.
"he was gambling on the success of his satellite TV channel"
    synonyms: take a chance, take a risk, take a leap in the dark, leave things to chance, speculate, venture, buy a pig in a poke;

You are terrible at math arent you? I mean the writing is on the wall. Go watch MissBizz vids to see your odds of winning anythign worthwhile. The amount of pretend money she spent over the course of a week to get a look into the odds. Hundreds of dollars. Just to see if she could get a single Apex Mount. But sure...Its the items that are regularly put in the Crown Store that would be overpriced. Not the gamble box that will require you to throw away entire pay checks to obtain a Mount that would of otherwise gone for 20 bucks.

can you point me in the right direction of her videos please?

It's not just wild speculation to say that the housing update is actually a major PvP update.

You'll be able to gain AP via a new passive skill tree called "Interior Decorating" and potentially outshine everyone else in your neighborhood to the point where they simply die of envy, darling.

I've already designed my drapes print.

We're supposed to get alleged furniture crafting with that.

But, as with anything in the MMO genre of online games, we won't really be making anything. Instead we'll be given a set of conditions we need to meet to get something for our personal use that they've created.

Here are @MissBizz 's Crown Crates preview:

She got one Apex mount on day 4, after 40 Crates if I am not mistaken, which is 16,000 Crowns. Keep in mind that the most expensive Crown Store Mount to date was 4000 Crowns. She also had 135 Crown Gems when she got it, which is enough to buy a pet or a regular mount recolor, which were sold for max 2500 Crowns in the store before (if they were available for a limited time) and a hat, which are sold for 500 Crowns in the Crown Store, tops. That's 16,000 Crowns for rewards that would have costed a total of 7,000 Crowns before, at most. Even if you argue that the Apex mounts would have costed more than the Dro-M'athra Senche, I find it hard to believe that the difference would have been of 9,000 Crowns.

And I tell you, she was one of the lucky ones. I got no Apex mount after the 8 days of testing, and I only got more than 400 Crown Gems after more than 80 crates (I think it was 86).

Actually, that is an argument as good as saying Orsinium is proof that the B2P transition didn't harm development - while we know Orsinium was in development before the transition.

The new marketing director - the person we can't name for obvious reasons, but who is specialized on F2P transition on MMOs - was hired only ten months ago. Vvardenfell, which contains houses so it is supposed to come after the housing update, was datamined only three months after she got hired, which means that housing had to already be in production by the time she was hired, even if on early stages.

So housing being the next update really doesn't have the Powers to leave "wild speculations" (more like, observation based on past experiences) at the door.

They are cosmetic items and food that you can craft better, and XP scrolls we now have an equivalent to in-game. I am happy for others to spend money on them to help keep the lights on at ZOS though!

They are also exclusive cosmetic items that can't be obtained through the normal Crown Store, meaning ZOS might actually lose money by trying to implement a much-maligned gambling system instead of just selling them on the Crown Store like normal people. If you really care about the lights staying on you'd call for them to stick to a tried-and-true store method instead of this nonsense that the vast majority of the community is opposed to.

In fairness I was entirely speculating that the store maintenance would herald the arrival of scam crates and did not mean to summon up this particular argument again.

Hopefully the Crown Crates will be put on the backburner like PvP Justice and Spellcrafting  until it quietly dies in the deepest, darkest hole at ZOS HQ

    They are coming ...

    Brace yourself.

You guys better brace yourselves for my collection of "I told you so" gifs for when people start posting the "I opened 50 crates and didn't get an apex mount" threads.

    giphy.gif

I think this gif accurately sums up my feelings on Crown Crates and the posts surrounding them:

    [snip]

They are cosmetic items and food that you can craft better, and XP scrolls we now have an equivalent to in-game. I am happy for others to spend money on them to help keep the lights on at ZOS though!

I find it kinda heartwarming that you guys have so much faith that ZOS will do something that the companies before them didn't - especially with them having the same person doing this that those other companies had. If only what you said was really the case and the companies didn't make these things their focus and put development of actual content in the background...

What we will see is Crown Crates funding... More Crown Crate stuff. That's how it goes, and then we go F2P shortly after.

If only this kind of thing only affected the people that buy them...

Given that the next big update (housing) is on the way, and more to come, I think we can firmly leave wild speculation at the door for now, yes?
Being how I've seen how rng crates and housing can be integrated... no.

Oh I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that there shall be housing related items in the crates next year. None whatsoever.

But I personally rarely open the CS tab. Now, of course, they are still there. It would be foolish to say if you don't open the tab they're not there. Of course they are there in the store. They exist as a buyable item. And, to be fair, I can see why people don't like them. Just because I'm not bothered, does not mean I can't see both sides of the argument.

Far too many people these days think in absolutes. Seeing other sides makes life more interesting.

I know that feel. I was actually surprised with how much worse than I expected the crates were when I tested them on the PTS, and I had pretty low expectations already.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Quitting over crates is stupid. Let people splash thier money on pointless crap. Just funds better stuff for the rest of us. @ZOS_MattFiror needs to put it into the Ferrari fund iirc, and I respect that. Make sure it's a yellow one, f430s are an epic ride.

Has there been any game with rngesus crates that put the income from the scam crates into real content for the game? Or just into more content for the scam crates? How much more frequently do the games with a lot of items in the crates get updated *game* content?

Edit: I was part of the testing on the pts. I did, after the max number of crated for the time they gave us, get one apex atronach mount. And it was the bear that I'd never buy. The bear and the camel are the last two mounts I'd ever buy with "real" money. And that mount I didn't want would have cost over $200 dollars. Know what I was hoping to get from the crates? The clouded leopard. Cost when it was in the store before was 2500 crowns.

They still have content they were working on before they hired the "expert". Once that comes out, I don't see much more game content coming at all. Just rngesus crate stuff to keep the "why bother to earn it in game if I can buy it" crowd around. That won't do it for me though. I want the game/story/content, not only the shinies.

No, we tested in the Public Test Server. On PTS, we get 5500 Crowns to spend every day (of course, nothing is permanent or transferred to the live servers in any way).
I'm afraid this would stay untested on my end if I had to use my money. I love this community and I think it is important to inform people of how bad these are, but that would be a little too much xD

I might actually blow some dough on crown crates if that were an option. See, it is potentially a life-destroying addiction!
