Apothecary’s Parcels (Imperial City DLC Game Pack)
We’ve introduced Apothecary's Parcels to certain merchants in the Imperial City, enabling you to purchase herbs and other reagents in exchange for Tel Var Stones.

Any thoughts about it? I am very curious how it will affect ingame economy and how the prices will be set...

Thoughts? It's a huge change, and for the better. PVPing can be a very, VERY expensive hobby. Potions for PVP aren't cheap, and while you can buy some of the Alliance War Droughts from the vendors, they're never quite the same as a good ol' player made pot that does everything you need.

This gives PVPers more ways to sustain their hobby and puts a bit more incentive into visiting Imperial City.

Whoever decided to finally implement this at ZOS deserves a freshly baked sweetroll.

I am not that often PVPing, so I only can feel some empathy for PVPers, I never experienced the problems on my own. But I believe the people who are telling, that its hard for them to gain gold for equip and potions. I am very curious, how much Tel-Var that herbs will cost and how it easens the life of the active PVPers. But from me - at least at first sight: Thumbs up.

The economy will be fine. And do you want to know why that is? Hardcore PVPers don't make money. They really don't. Even selling AP for motifs and other goods really doesn't give much in the way of a monetary reward, so this means that PVPers will be able to fund themselves and sustain their personal gameplay more than, say... fund you. And that's a good thing. A really, REALLY good thing.

People who normally buy reagents en masse are people who run hardcore trials or dungeons, and are chugging potions non-stop to keep up their DPS. Yeah, it may hurt prices to a very minute degree, but really... 600g for a single columbine is terrible as it is.

I used to be a diehard PVPer, and I quit running Cyrodiil daily because I was tired of the cheating (this is pre-CE explosion) and the constant procpocalypse. When I was PVPing, I'd spend 200-300K a month on wall repair kits, gold and siege. Yeah, I didn't have to, and I swapped to trash pots as much as I could... but repairs, sustain and pushing back the zerg aren't cheap.

I have no idea what the parcels actually do in-game (I imagine the reagents are random), how much they contain, or what they cost, but as somebody who is/was a PVPer, seeing something like this is a huge step in the right direction.

Economy just works if both sides work, buyer and sellers. Economy doesnt work, if people arent able to afford items, economy doesnt work, if stuff isnt there. Yes it might decrease prices and might hurt some people, but the last weeks and months people experienced something else: Its getting harder to achieve gold by PVE and PVP, while Herbs prices has been artificially been rising. You still have to work for the items - u have to gain Tel-Var stones, but this just gives some more options to the people.

Perhaps it would also help if they introduced a Hireling in the Alchemy passives (same as every other craft).

As leveling Alchemy can be done in 30 minutes, it means PvPers don't have to grind away at a skill line, Trial PvEers can get some readily available mats, and crafters can have a supply of mats for making Potions if they so wish

I don't know yet what's in those boxes, but my thoughts are that ZOS has been trying for a while to counter / balance the ingame economy.

Over the last two years, players who had both fun at playing the trading game and time to farm/buy/sell were able to make an ingame FORTUNE. I'm one of them, I'm talking of above 10 million gold - and that's small when compared to the really big traders in the game. Not sure if it is a problem or not - it's perfectly useless if you play "legit and fair only", but over the last few patches, ZOS has been slowly but surely reducing the number of items on which ingame profit can be made : hard-to-get sets are BoP, remaining BoE items are easy to farm. Enchanting runes are easy to get / purchasable from NPC. Mats for crafted sets have been made widely available and not worth trading anymore. All that remained were motifs (one of which has been recently made "crown-store-exclusive") and alchemy ingredients. Now those are gone too due to being added to TelVar merchants.

It's one of two things... or both... Either ZOS wants to make the economy more "equal" by having players relying more on playing content as the main source of gold (quest rewards, theft, crime, killing mobs, etc...) ..; OR they want to dry out the economy first ("fortunes" like mine will be spent into housing) and then players will have to spend crowns to further housing stuff.

I don't have a clear image yet but two things are obvious :
    - There are more and more ways in the game to "make money created of thin air, from NPCs"
    - There are less and less ways to make money from trading with other players.

Also, maybe I'm thinking far too far ahead, and ZOS was simply thinking of a way to make Tel Var Stones attractive again and draw more players towards IC.

Main problem is, the poor-rich-scissors widen more and more, and i am quite sure, that some of the super-rich players from time to time exploited some of their properties....oh *** i am not only quite sure, i know it.

yes it hurts me maybe, and as well my guilds or some of my members, but i am a fan of fairplay and fair trading. trying to use his own gold masses to hurt the economy by trying to change prices for own benefits is something, i just dont like. the mass of the traders are not just sellers, but as well buyers, so nearly all of the people are affected by supply-problems - and only a few people are negatively affected by this change.
Also, maybe I'm thinking far too far ahead, and ZOS was simply thinking of a way to make Tel Var Stones attractive again and draw more players towards IC.

could be a reason and they combined it with two other huge problems: gaining gold as just-pvp-player and momentarily occuring ingame-economy-problems.

    gaining gold as just-pvp-player

Do "pure-PVP-players" need gold ? What for ? As far as I know, for an experienced PVPer (which I assume a "PvP-only-player" is) , AP is very easy and quick to make and "everything they need" is available for AP.

I can see immovable pots and gold tempers as potential problems... But there were Akaviri motifs for trading ? Are they a thing of the past now ?
But yeah, now that Hakeijos and Repora's are gone maybe they need a new source of AP/TV=>Gold conversion.

Repair mats are available for AP.
Pots... well, they can farm flowers, like we all do. That's not "forced PvE-ing"... We PvEers don't get gold tempers or pots by simply PvEing...

I mean, it's true that gold is easier to make for PvEers than PvPers, but AP is also easier to get for PvPers than for PvEers. My question is "why should gold made easier to make for PvPers ?"

Not that I'm against it, I don't really care, and if it makes the game more enjoyable to PvPers, why not. I'm just not sure what ZOS' "grand scheme of things" is - assuming there's one.

Yeah, but let's be real - AP is also your only real source of gold if you're doing PVP. Maybe Tel Var. The cost for repair kits is still really high, so in many cases you're better off at saving up the AP and using gold to buy things like repair kits or siege so you can buy Akavari motifs or gear bags and hopefully flip 'em for cash.

And PVPers want to PVP, not run around for hours at a time vacuuming up flowers to be able to PVP.

its forced farming u are talking about. pve-players are as well able to make gold and buy stuff from gold. pvp-players usually arent, so its okay, beeing able to buy stuff from their currency which isnt gold, equivalent to pve-players. its as well okay, to give the players at least the option to buy something from their currency they are getting, but pvp-players often dont get much gold and arent able to buy same items from gold as pve-players are. also the stuff they could sell from their ap and tel var stones arent worth anymore that much as it was. there is an imbalance between pve and pvp players and the rewards of their action and its as well okay, to face that :)

and btw: i would never buy repair mats from ap, its not worth it, i would pay more for it, than i could safe up for more important stuff like siege weapons of f.e. akaviri styles. if the mats were only for ap, and not for gold, nobody would repair anymore.

as well active pve-players dont want to.

The equivalent to this would be like telling PVErs that in order to run dungeons for undaunted they needed to spend a few hours in Cyrodiil every week PVPing just to be able to earn enough Undaunted Points to run a handful of dungeons. PVPers generally don't want to farm mats and PVE content and most PVErs don't want to be forced to PVP.

There's a disconnect, as ESO is sort of like two games in one. PVE and PVP have two majorly different communities, though some do overlap.

This is 1 more thing that the in game economy lost. Not totally, but a loss non the less. It's the same thing that happend with gear from trials being available in the zones, prices and sales dropped.

There's 1 place to get Tel Var, IC and that is a pvp zone favoring pvp players. Pvpers who used to be forced to buy the alchemical ingredients can now just go there and shop. Little by little ZOS is giving pvp less reason's to leave Cyrodiil and pve more reason's to enter it.

First, seems in keeping with 1T chgs. More self-sufficient to get raw ingredients making skill the commodity.

Second, may give those with a few AP from intro training something to do with them if cheap.

    - 3x Mountain flower
    - 3x Columbine

Even selling AP for motifs and other goods really doesn't give much in the way of a monetary reward, so this means that PVPers will be able to fund themselves and sustain their personal gameplay more than, say... fund you. me and my friends have dumped millions, literally millions into vendors to buy reagents for our potions. I'm sure both pvp and pve players both buy massive amounts of reagents. I will agree I do think the economy I only hope the purchasable reagents are comprable to the cp160 mats that can be purchased. Essentially gathering them your self ultimately makes more sense. Also I is a dlc and not everyone has it.

Yep just one less thing to sell, trials equipment, gone, crafting mats, gone. Motifs, maybe but those are short lived for any real money. Now alchemy reagents, and as a side effect potions. In game gold will only be achieved by quest? Have to wait and see what they have in mind but they are trying to tank the economy they are succeeding.
