With steam somethings just go through steam such as purchasing crowns
    And possibly subscriptions.

Basically there is someone else between you and Zos.

Depends on if you're a big steam person.

I don't use Steam but if you do...do that

I use steam a great deal but don't ESO through steam. Was no steam option back in my day, lol. Also I heard some negative things/issues with the steam interface and eso. Probably none of it was true but who knows.

Are you a Steam Head? In that you have to launch games through Steam and use the Steam Features? Note, they just integrated Steam and the game, so not sure what all integration there will be, prior there was no real reason to use Steam other than a way to buy the game.

I myself only use Steam to buy some games and launch them, so I can't speak to how neat or not neat the Steam Integration is. What I have seen does not interest me, like the Chat and stuff. I even disable the Community stuff. I am about as Un-Steamed as you can be but still be a member of the service.

With this game, unless Steam is something you have running all the time, it will be just one more thing you have to initialize, then the Launcher, then the game. Me, I use a shortcut directly to the EXE, have the Intro Movies disabled, so it takes me 10 seconds to get to Character Select with one button click. I also avoid the Launcher like the plague with it's Manifest Errors. You could probably even do that with Steam (load the game directly, not sure).

The other night I was doing something with Steam and after all the updates and such, it was about 10 minutes before I could get in there and do something. But, I rarely run it, so I have to update it about every time I load it, which makes me want to load it less, so it needs to update even more. A Vicious Catch 22 Death Spiral of Delay's for me.

So, buy it from Steam if you love Steam and have it running/updated all the time. Otherwise, make the game super easy and quick to launch by buying it from the store.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I wouldn't go through Steam if I were you unless you have a specific reason for doing so (ie. if there's a Steam sale on it or if someone gifts it to you through Steam or something along those lines).

The reason I say that is because Steam is just another layer where things can go wrong. If you buy through Steam then any crown purchases or subscriptions have to go through Steam, and I've seen enough Steam users complaining that something went wrong with their subs or crown purchases to know that there can be issues with them that don't exist for people who go directly through ZOS.

I've been able to add non-steam ESO to my steam library for streaming purposes. In that sense, non-steam ESO provides much more freedom.
