Why is character creation so bland?

I wouldn't call it bland. There's the lighting problem and a few other annoyances but if you play with it long enough you can make decent looking characters.

Unfortunately that requires actually creating a character and walking around with them in the world. With the character deletion limits (which I understand the reasons for) it can take weeks to arrive at something you're happy with. For me it took 6 and I'm not exaggerating in the slightest.

I think there should be 3 option, young, adult and mature, if they make Character Creator like that, it'd no doubt bring more people to the game. Ironically most ES fans are old and the chars looks teens.

Aye, I don't swing that way, but she's a hottie :p Just goes to show, if ya' work hard enough at it you can even make Imperial women look hawt :pensive:

Nord and Breton females have been the ones I've had to re-roll the most to lose the cookie-cutter look.

I personally feels it's waaaaay better than TES games and honestly it's better than a lot of MMo's made around 2012-2013

It just hasn't had any improvements made which are being requested as time passes. Also with spec upgrades maybe it's a better time to ask for specifics.

I think the char creator could do with some more facial marking / scars / tattoos and less odd / tarty makeup. I'd like to see a natural gloss lipstick with no matching eyeshadows, or some black eyeliners with no lipsticks at all.

There have been some nice characters posted in this thread, the creator isn't all bad, though it does suffer with dreadful lighting issues.
Also I noticed tonight that Redguard's cannot have grey or even salt and pepper hair colour on dreadlock styles. It turns out as a dark yellowish blonde.
Also, there is no beard that isn't a heavy ish type. There isn't anything like very thick stubble. Not that I can find anyway, though I am not used to making male characters.

Indeed. ESO chargen is not perfect, but its better then many I have seen before... so I for one am mostly content... mostly...
I just wish that the female characters could be a bit more bulky, I've spent a lot of time with historical renactors and some of the lovely ladies there could snap a maxed out female nord physique in half like a bread stick. It's not supprising I suppose, the media still has a bug up its nose about ladies having to be all slender and helpless, all the time, even in eso you see them with characters that could barely lift that sword let alone swing it...
Agreed, and doubly so for some proportions. Like... hands. I have a maximum muscle orc blacksmith girl character, and it has always vexed me that her hands are far too dainty to look right on her arms... wish I had a slider for hand b8ulk as well to make her look better that way!
    Sausage wrote: »

    ...yes, Yes, YES!
I want to see fat friar healers, towering but gaunt "slenderman" type mages, over-muscular "hulk" orc warriors, boyish sorcerors apprentices, matronly witches, tiny skinny ninja girls, oversized "titanborn" nords, adult-movie-star impractical breast sizes, whatver!
As such, I really would love more chargen options. Heck, I'd gladly pay crowns for this, a "structural options" pack and some character redesign tokens...

And while we're at it, additional coloring options for skin and hair, for those who liike to play their characters as "halfbreed" (as in, nords may be generally pale skinned and fair haired, but if there is a bit of redguard in the family tree, there ought to be a dusky black-haired nord somewhere around Skyrim, yes?)

Don't trash the Skyrim creator, there are things you can do in it that you can't do in this game.

    Yes, like this (no mods):

    bmwEV7X.png

Oh my god! ZOS, look! What is this hair color? How comes that race has it? How do they do that?
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Hopefully Bethesda gest it for ES6, it really bothers me. ES series does not age very well, if they keep this course it might kill this series eventually.

Shortly said, ES series currently is like a old wine with some disco lights around it.

Plenty of players do many interesting things with this game's character creator.

Just try to make a Dunmer who isn't either scowling or stuck with her mouth hanging open because the player tried to put a pleasing expression on her face.

But, as folks have noted, for an online game, it's good. It's not Black Desert, though. But, thankfully, ESO is not the Black Desert game ;)

That's because Dunmer are always angry. They're just not a jolly people, and being elves they've got that Romulan thing going with the forehead.

Oh, I know and I agree. I did a video once on trying to make a happy Dunmer in the ESO character creator, mostly as a joke. Won't post it here, though, because it would only be amusing to people who know me and my sense of humor.

It can be done. It's just that something about the result ends up feeling, as you might say, wrong :p

The biggest issue, Professor, is the one shot nature of it. You have either a different shader in character creation, or a shader setting/light source setup very different from many you'll encounter in the game.

Yes, we now have the ability to go back in....for a thousand crowns *winces*

Now, if they gave you a 24 hour test drive of your character, during which you could go back into the creator as many times as you wanted, THEN we would see the full potential of the module expressed, with far more diversity I believe.

I don't want to say the number of passes Erana - the Imperial gal that many folks reacted so positively to in this thread - went through that module. But let's just say the number of tokens I used before I was satisfied with her could have gotten me a personal merchant...or banker...or...ummm....both *blush*
