Crown crates .. What's wrong with negativity ?

To start I do not like these crates i believe this is filthy way of doing business with customers... But I'm amused that there's no constructive posts in other threads causing it to be locked [snip] ... I don't see any " I think there the best " threads hanging around they seem to turn into negative threads against them .... I will say this if you want to buy them fine [snip] but this is a filthy business practice and good luck to you! I just urge you to consider how much you will be spending on a item that is not worth at most worth more than 15-20 dollars .. Because from what I've read in posts off pts its 400 gems for a mount etc and if your lucky you get 5 gems per box thrown in with the ultra rare chance of an item I've read 30000 crowns and still no drop but a whole bunch of usless consumables .. As I've posted before mass effect 3 multi player had these boxes for micro transactions but even the most hated company in the world / EA had sense enough to allow you the choice of paying real money or using in game credits earnt !!....... Personally my reasons for hating these is while I've stopped my sub and don't play much now I loath company's that blatantly rip customers money out of there wallet by dangling shinnies in front of them knowing full well the RNG is stacked massively in there favour .. I actually like eso when it's not trying to rip customers off and not fixing the bugs for months and months..

How is anything in a game like this "useless" ? If it's an item that gives you bonus damage or bonus regen than how is it worthless?

If the boxes are simply for cosmetic items or mounts what difference does it make? It wont effect your game play.

Darn...... playing this game is too distracting

No proper attention for this forum.

The negativity comes from people going back and forth at each other and it gets out of hand so they close the thread. If the threads remain constructive then they keep them open.

The crown crates are a non issue with me, there is nothing in them that will make my character better, its all fluff, and nothing I NEED to play the game, so if you like them spend away, and have fun, and good luck, if I had better rng I might buy a few, but my rng is the pits, I would most likely get 20 taters LOL.

Other games do this it is nothing new, and as long as they keep it fluff it will always be a non issue with me.

I just wonder if the complainers just don't have the money to spend and just hate the fact that some one might get a fancy mount they cant, once again nothing anyone NEEDS to play the game.

If you truely wonder about that, read one of these threads, you will find a lot of arguments and maybe you will correct your view on those crates, if you are actually going to read them.

TBH, there has been numerous posts containing lots of constructive feedback. I would bet my slalary one of those posts was written by someone who worked/has worked/has family or close friends whonjbwork in marketing.

I hate crown crates, gamble boxes, lottery boxes and any conversation to improve them resolves around the concept of how to best squeeze every last dollar out of every single demographic of customer you can.

Marketing works, gamble boxes in game work but for me and me only introducing this revenue stream into liveplayvtwo years after launch once you have the conditioned your player base for cosmetic purchases looks dirty, smells dirty, feels dirty and in all probability is dirty.

Barring a huge overhaul (which via supposedly in the works) I'm not going to be offering constructive advice on how to exploit my wallet to the greatest percentage, participating, or playing (this is because marketing works and sooner master if I stick around I'll cave and buy boxes hoping for an attorney mount). And I'm just not going to support it.

With constructive feedback or my wallet.

Me for example, I am not spending less, I am just not spending them on ESO anymore, but other game companies have now the benefit. In the end these crates will neither benefit the game nor ZOS in the long run - crates are a means to the end, I give ESO just about 2 years to shut down after these crates are in. More and more the development will shift to fluff and eventually p2w items in those crates, because more and more people will cease to pay for this game and once people got, that these crates are a rip-off, the game will drift into the same direction other games did - before they had to shut down.

I just wonder if the complainers just don't have the money to spend and just hate the fact that some one might get a fancy mount they cant, once again nothing anyone NEEDS to play the game.

    Look at it this way.

There are three ESO figures, the hero costumes, in the Best of Bethesda Funko Mystery Minis. Even though everything says there's a 1/12 chance per figure, there are actually 15 figures and only 12 boxes in a case. So I'd need to buy two cases to maybe get them all. On sale, that's $160 plus tax and shipping.

But I don't want two cases.
So do I gamble $8-10 per box and hope I eventually three figures I want?
*** no. I go to eBay and buy the three figures I want loose. That's maybe $30. Which is a lot for three mass market 3" figures, but still better than the alternative.

I don't need any of these. But blind packaging with no indication of what is inside is a predatory sales method.
Only with these Funko boxes I at least get to keep the stuff I get but don't want. I can trade it or sell it. With digital gambling, I don't even own the box contents. ZOS takes all of it to their grave.

Funko just churns out mass market *** and really doesn't care about product quality control or its customers because it's making too much money off casual sales - a box here, a box there.

ZOS wants a piece of that action, but I like collecting stuff I actually own afterward.

    ***

In case anyone's curious about that Funko assortment:

When these things are released a large amount of people quit the game right out. They don't come whine on the forums. They don't make a scene. They say bye to guildies and quit.

As time goes on more people quit as they see how crappy these things are.

Due to loss of paying customers the studio turns more effort towards these boxes to make more revenue. Content is still released but gets more and more lacking because more time is concentrated towards boxes. More people quit.

People realise that without boxes, that neat mount would have been in crown store. People get mad, more people quit.

Studio has now lost lots of customers. They need money. More and more P2W items appear in these boxes to entice people to buy them. More people quit.

These boxes have a horrid stigma around them because anyone that has played any game that has introduced these things has seen this pattern in every one of them. Any time a game has introduced these things it goes on a decline. THIS IS FACT AND CAN BE PROVEN BY READING EVERY THREAD ABOUT THIS TOPIC WHERE MULTIPLE GAMES ARE BROUGHT UP. The only people who are for them are the (un)fortunate souls who haven't had them wreck a game they are invested in and love or people who play new mmos every other year and aren't around for the long haul in the first place.

Almost nobody cares about these crates because they will not contain anything meaningful at all.

Try to focus on the things actually wrong about this game and its developer.

They said they wouldn't drop subscription. They did. They started selling cosmetics on the store at buy to play for flat price. Now they are putting them in random boxes to rip people off.

Do you really think it will stop at crown crates. I would be surprised if they aren't prepared to hit us with something else after they have been in the game long enough for people to calm down.

    The Boiled Kagouti

It is said that if a kagouti steps into a boiling pool, he will leap out immediately to avoid harm.

But if the kagouti is standing in a pool, and a wizard slowly raises the temperature, measure by measure, to boiling, the kagouti will calmly stand in place until he is boiled.

Thus we see that we must be alert not only to the obvious danger, but also to the subtle degrees by which change may result in danger.

As long as you can buy these things outside of the crates I really don't care, the thing that grinds my gears is the idea of crown crate exclusives, there is no way I can justify throwing my limited resources against the immovable wall of this games weird rng system

Thank you for taking the time to post this so I don't have to explain the process to the people who have no experience with these schemes in MMOs again, I was getting tired of it.

Unfortunately, I imagine that the people who are defending the crates are just going to keep ignoring this. You can identify the People with no experience whatsoever by the "don't buy them, they are just cosmetics, it does not affect you" argument.

For the record, having no experience is NOTHING to be ashamed of, nobody is born knowing everything, and I don't mean to offend anyone when I say they are inexperienced with RNG boxes in MMOs. Although it would be nice if they read the actual arguments against the crates before posting their own arguments, so we wouldn't have so many posts with irrelevant arguments that do not tackle the issue.

Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Although it would be nice if they read the actual arguments against the crates before posting their own arguments, so we wouldn't have so many posts with irrelevant arguments that do not tackle the issue.

What should be a dead give away to how horrible these things are and should end every debate about them is that in all of these instances not one person can point to any game that has them and say "Boy am I sure glad that we had crates in game X. It sure brought a lot of revenue to the company and the game got better."

I've played far to many, they all were far worse after. Content is released very slowly, except for gambling crates. New content often includes a new system that adds more to the gambling crates. I just got an email from SWTOR about there latest cartel pack. Scavenge these today. I dread thinking ESO is going that direction.

Thank you for taking the time to post this so I don't have to explain the process to the people who have no experience with these schemes in MMOs again, I was getting tired of it.

yeah, all well and good but.... where are they?

"They" what? The people who are posting arguments that have nothing to do with the issue? The MMOs killed by the development shift caused by the crates? The various explanations about the development shift (which is the actual problem with the crates)? There is one explanation on the development shift on the post I quoted.

    they what?

    are you being deliberately obtuse?

    the crates.... obviously

They have been very silent. However, with the launch of 1T you may have realized there is another currency next to crowns, gems. So the answer is very soon.

No, just that there were multiple things in my post that could be called a "they". You could be questioning where the people with the arguments that do not tackle the issues were (these people being a "they"), where the arguments detailing the actual issue were (also a "they") or where the games we keep referencing to were (the games also being a "they").

The crates were put up for testing on the PTS last test cycle (and removed about a week later). We don't have an actual ETA on them other than "later this year", if that's what you wish to know.
