If you are nostalgic about that kind of dumb AI, you can simply use the GF and PuG a dungeon. There are plenty of braindead human players that will always run ahead, aggro all the mobs, get promptly killed by them, or simply stay in the red and get burned or stomped to death. Fortunately there's no friendly fire in this game

No need for companions in a MMO IMO, but with housing coming, maybe a house steward would be kinda cool.
Lydia, are you available?

She won't be available until an era and a half would have passed. Maybe her grand-grand-grand-grandma though.

Hehe. She comes from a long legacy of housecarls, sworn to carry your burdens across the eras.
In this game, good ideas used by other MMO's go into a magic box. In this box they get kicked, battered, hacked and mutilated and emerge as a useless concept, a mere shadow of the former good idea.
e.g. Good idea(companions)
into the magic box
BASH, BANG, KAPOW!!
we get pets!!!
