Help - heavy armor magicka sustain?!

Now with One Tamriel and all the new sets im curious as what sort of combination would be good for a heavy armor magicka templar?
I want to use heavy armor but i always have problems with magicka sustain.
So i wonder what magicka sets to combine with heavy armor?

My plans were to use Rattlecage set for armor then combine it with another set such as Spinners but i still feel that would'nt change my magicka issues. How is the warlock set?

I don't know well templar tanks.

How much Magicka Regen do you have ? And how much magicka ? What are your skills ?
Do you use your rune ? It can help you sustaining your magicka and it'll give you Major Ward and Major Resolve which is important as a tank. What glyphs are you using on your accessories ? Adding some magick regen glyphs can help too. What is your mundus stone ? Atronach one can help too. Are you spamming your skills ? Spam less your skills. Use the stamina taunt as much as possible (if you have magicka problem, magicka taunt won't help you lol). Shield only when you need it (you'll need to learn boss's pattern to do so).

EDIT : Spinners and Rattlecage won't help you sustaining your magicka. Spinner is more oriented towards DPS people (it's a light armor set).

Having more magicka as a tank is good, but if you have sustain issue, it won't help you that much. It really depends of your stats, if you have a good magicka pool, increasing it isn't a good choice to increase your sustainability. At this point you can take look at your magicka regen.

EDIT2 : I don't understand why you want spell damage on your tank. Unless you're playing a Tank-Heal build. You need to specify if you're a pure tank or a tank-heal templar, advices won't be the same depending on your build

Heavy armour magplar perspective here, non-vet PvP and solo otherwise.

First, make sure you have maxed out the Constitution passive. Second, make sure you run a morph of Rune Focus which gives magicka regen.

Then you have options. I do not run Black Rose (which is infamous for its sustain and good even for mag), all my sets are crafted in fact. It usually helps to have around 1000 magicka regen (Mundus or equipment or food, look at this new Halloween food they have now!) and some cost reduction on top (I run with one Cost Reduc ring in non-vet). On top of all that, it is better to choose bigger magicka pool over some extra regen: the point is to have a lot of magicka, and spend less. The rest is managed by Constitution, Rune Focus, potions, maybe poisons or weapon enchants.

I do not think that One Tamriel new sets are specifically good for heavy armour magplars. The superiority of Spinners/Rattlecage over old Kags/Julianos is questionable, and there is no equivalent of say Viper if you want to go meta-ish. There are some interesting (updated?) sets though like Magicka Furnace with some regen, but maybe you'd like to invest in other things.

Conjecture: for tanking in PvE, run 5 Black rose, 4 Seducer, 3 Willpower with healthy traits, all heavy, permablock and heal.

He didn't actually say he was a tank, just that he wanted to use heavy, and a lot of Templars do.

Interested in where this goes anyway cause I also thought of Rattlecage and spinners for my PvP Templar.

I run my magDK in 5/2 heavy/light for both pvp and pve. The trick is not spamming skills, and using heavy attacks judiciously to keep magic coming back to you. That alt has I think 1250-1300 regen and that's more than enough unless I have an oh *** moment where I have to go HAM on my skills. Otherwise I can keep my pool above 50% easily. Templars have plenty of tools available to keep resource management under control. Rune focus is great, heavy staff attacks, healing springs(if healer). You could have 3k regen, but if all you do is bomb out dark flare repeatedly , always going to run dry.

3 Magnas's Gift, 5 Seducer, Necklace & 2 Rings of the Healer, Atronach Stone, as many Champ Points as you can into Arcanist & Magician.

Enchant your staff with a glyph of Absorb Magicka.

Chuck Blazing Spear and drop a Ritual of Retribution for DOT's, mix in a Rune Focus if necessary, use Puncturing Sweep to do damage and top up your healing.

Thing is, our answers have nothing to do with 1T really.

What I meant about questionable advantage of new sets: Rattlecage: 360 damage total + Major sorcery. If I cast degeneration all the time to get might of the guild before ulti, do I need the Major sorcery buff? Compare Kagrenac's, roughly same health/ damage (remember that max Magicka counts as damage too) + recovery + useful resurrect buff. Or Julianos and its even better damage and crits/crit heals.

One might even argue that Red Mountain set is better due to its five piece bonus, but you sacrifice a lot before, not to mention you're becoming on of those ''my armor kills'' types.

I've kicked around running red mountain on my magDK... first glance would say, it's a stam set so useless for magic class...however, pvp especially, I run s&b on my main dps bar for high survivability, and out of sheer muscle memory I guess, I weave light attacks between skills. The max stam on RM is handy for cc breaks/dodge rolls, and when RM procs, I'd get a big damage bonus due to DK Passives, CP, and the 5 piece silks of the sun bonus. More I think about it as I'm writing this, the more I think I really need to give this idea a run
