No reason male characters can't have long hair, either! If anything was going to clip with the head mesh, it'd be short hair.
The RP community would appreciate this more than you know, and it certainly appears to be very possible. Please allow as many styles as possible to be used by both genders. It might even boost sales on the hairstyle pack!
