Only ES game I've played

Eso is the only ES game I've played out of the series. I'm currently taking a break from ESO but I was thinking up picking up Skyrim remastered for PS4 on the 28th. As someone who never played it do you think it's worth the 60$ price tag? Or at this point are there better RPGs to check out? It's basically between Skyrim and the witcher 3. I'm going to buy one of them. Thanks.

It's only my opinion, but I say get Skyrim. My son bought it for me a few years ago, and I love it! I'm actually on a 4th play-through :)

Skyrim is a very good game, but it is not even the best TES, let alone the best RPG.

Are you in any way familiar with the Witcher series? If no, then get Skyrim. Otherwise, I would say get Witcher 3.

Both are good games. If you're burned out playing ESO you might want to switch to a totally different world/back story though.

I had never played any modern RPG computer games, and around early 2012 I bought an XBox, mainly to watch Netflix on my TV. It came with a free copy of Skyrim, which literally collected dust sitting next to the XBox for several months. One Friday my girlfriend was out of town and I was bored so I decided to give it a try, just for something to do. I slept maybe 4 hours before I had to work on Monday, and was hooked. And that's why I'm here. After playing through on the XBox, I learned of mods for Skyrim, so I built a gaming machine I could hook up to my TV, just to play Skyrim with mods, which got me in to PC gaming.

So yeah, in my opinion, Skyrim is definitely worth it.

FWIW I bought Witcher 3 shortly after it came out ... I've played it maybe 6 hours tops. I played Skyrim for over 600 hours, on PC alone, according to my Steam account, which doesn't include the hundreds of hours I played on the XBox.

I played skyrim for about 300 hours. My brother bought me Witcher 3 for a birthday present and I played it about an hour. FWIW the trees in Witcher 3 are really annoying, and so is the little girl.

Skyrim was such a fun adventure game. Could log on and intend to only play for 3 hours and suddenly it was 7 hours later. Soo much randomness and alot of cool stuff that made the hour travel from point to point a better choice over fast travel. The main problem I had with the game was the combat mechanics was very limited and monotonous. Every soo often a kill would break to a cut scene which was cool but in general the fight mechanics were boring.

Skyrim, by itself, is very good, and worth the money. The Skryim Remaster includes all the DLC, which was a bit steep, when Bethesda released them. It's very different from ESO, however. You're turned loose in the entire province of Skyrim, and the narrative is much less focused. Dawnguard added a vampire/vampire hunter plotline, which is entertaining in its own right. Dragonborn was, mostly, fanservice for Morrowind players. It should be entirely playable to a newcomer, but a lot of what's there is referencing back to TES3.

The setting of Skyrim is 4e200, so roughly 1k years after the events of ESO. The game mechanics are considerably different (there's no active abilities or even class selection.)

The Witcher 3 is amazing, and probably one of the best RPGs released this decade. The writing team finally started to come to grips with Sapkowski's material, and it results in a complex and staggeringly massive RPG. If you have to pick one, then The Witcher 3 is probably the better option. The only hesitation is, it's the third game in a trilogy, and you're expected to have played the first and second games. Though, reading the books is also a legitimate primer.

Skyrim is a toybox. It's massive. You can lose thousands of hours in there. But, it's not a coherent story, and shouldn't be taken as one. It may give you some insights to the Elder Scrolls setting, but mostly, you're going to be spending thousands of hours killing Draugr and Dragons.

The Witcher 3 is a very meaty story, with a lot of options for the player to pick a path and alter the outcome of events. It's primarily a narrative experience, with some sandbox elements bolted onto the edges to allow you to screw around a bit when you're not feeling the story at this moment. You're also, specifically, playing Geralt of Rivia. This can be a deal breaker for people. Skyrim lets you roll up your character, choose who they are, and set out on your story, but Geralt is a very specific individual, and one of the protagonists from the novels. So you can't simply create a character you want to play from scratch the way Skyrim allows.

As someone who played the Witcher 3, Skryim, Oblivion, Morrowind, and ESO (obviously) I would say this:

    - I didnt like the Witcher 3
    - Morrowind/Oblivion are the reason why i love the series
    - Skyrim is the two former games on steroids, but also more mainstreamed.
    - ESO is a very well done spin on the series and i like it most of all.

So, having never played an ES game before ESO, Id say do not play morrowind, it will frustrate you, play both Oblivion and Skyrim. If you dont mind the somewhat dated mechanics and graphics, Oblivion still has an amazing story. Skyrim is the polished version of Oblivion

I loved Skyrim (PS3) - hundreds of hours on it. There is a main story, but the world is huge and there is stuff everywhere to just go and find and explore and "do". After you complete the main story you can just keep on playing. Even after that I know I didn't do everything because my son picked up playing a save of mine and found things I never did. I like how you are just "dropped in" - no narration (other than possibly the intro "cart ride"), no explanation, just confusion and then experience the world and how things unfold. I'd say if you haven't played any ES single player games you should give it a go, just for the experience.

They are charging console users 60 dollars for the game? You can get the legendary edition which has all the dlc with it on a steam sale for about £5 and you get the remastered patch for free! So I would recommend buying it on the pc if you have one.

And yes, Skyrim is amazing, you will glad you played it. I found it very addictive and fun.

Same for Oblivion and Morrowind. Although for Morrowind you may want to mod it quite a bit.

It's a matter of preference. I enjoy a good story and good characters above all. Skyrim barely scratched the surface of the lore, left important plotlines on cliffhangers (which were completely ignored on the DLCS) and the characters and not very believable. On the other hand, you get more freedom, the story for what its worth isn't as guided (but still more guided than older TES) and you can make your own character in Skyrim, while the Witcher is the story of Geralt. Both games have pros and cons, both games are pretty good. The Witcher is more of my style.
