I would spend millions of gold to help fund an awesome guild hall. I see very little point in getting an apartment so I can just sit in there.

Yup. In Skyrim and Oblivion, housing was little more than a place to go dump stuff that you did not want to sell or throw away, yet did not need. I did tend to park the unwanted companions from Skyrim in whatever that place was called in Whiterun. The one with the fireplace in the middle of the room that blocked navigation.

I think it would be cool if housing had armor & weapon racks that you could store a complete set of armor & weapons on. SO like.. if you were regularly leveling characters in BWB & making/collecting sets every few levels... you could hang a set of armor on a rack that was "Lvl10 stamina set" (for example) & when you level your next guy, he could take that set off the rack & use it.

Another random idea is having a pantry to store all your crafted food, drinks, potions & poisons. So again, when a character levels up & wants higher level food/drink/potions/poisons.. he takes it from the pantry & leaves the lower level stuff in there for the next character to level with.

^^ THIS ^^ So much THIS.

I am so sick of carting around multiple sets of armour on different characters "in case" I make a new alt and my bank is full. I'd also like somewhere to dump all the dropped loot so that my alts can decon it - again without having to drop it in the bank.

The problem is that once you reach a certain level in Skyrim all of those legendary items that you have you're unable to sell because the merchants don't have enough gold to give to you. Selling one item to a Merchant would bring them into a negative zero.

You can do that today. Well, except that ZOS has come along and locked all the houses.

At that point, gold is no hindrance in the game. You can just toss the items.

Nobody knows! There are infinite possibilities!! Personally, I'd be 100% satisfied if it was strictly cosmetic, with no storage or crafting stations or anything of that nature. I am totally cool with just spending some time decorating, inviting friends over for RP or to show off a new aesthetics, etc. BUT!! I also think there's plenty of utility they could add to it, and by no means would adding extra functionality interfere with my lovely interior design hobby. So hopefully they've got something for everyone, but we'll find out specifics soon enough. My only hope currently is that they did end up going with a crafting motif = craft furniture in that style system. We know we'll be able to craft "hundreds of items", which seems like it would require that sort of a system, but we'll have to wait and find out. I'm super hoping that we end up getting to play with all the same art assets that the regular devs fool around with.

Out of all the new features that are being hyped up recently, player housing is the one I've personally been least looking forward to. It's a cool addition to the game and I understand why people have been clamouring for it, I just doubt I'll ever spend real or in-game money on something I'll never use or care about.

yes, to all those things, except the last. It's called an 'immersive' game, which ESO currently isn't, but the previous solo PC games very much were. Not to mention in the solo PC games you could run around naked and the sheriff didn't show up, handcuff you to a tree and... Nvm.

From what I understand, it is also completely optional. You don't have to do anything with the free apartment they give everyone. You don't have to buy houses. You don't have to craft or buy furnishings. It's totally optional. So if you don't feel the need to own a home or you feel like it's pointless, you don't have to.

As for me, I'm looking forward to furniture crafting.

    • Does it provide extra storage? -- no info about it yet, but hopefully yes
    • Does it give you anything the game doesn’t already? Eg craft stations? - crafting stations the same as in the game, but furniture crafting and then trading of furniture will be added to the game

    • Is it to aid roleplay? - yes
    • Would a guild hall not be a better option? no info about this yet, but there are huge houses in the game, so it has been speculated, that it might be future guild halls

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll probably get a small one somewhere but I cant see when I would ever use it, other than as a dumping ground for cr*p I collect.

Player housing is a sandbox feature that lets you feel more like your character is living in the world and not just playing through the world, some players will spend hour upon hour decorating and gathering trophies and items for the house.

From the interview with Mat Firor I am pleased it will not all be behind the crown store I do not care if they sell some premium housing items in the crown store, I am glad there is a quest to get your apartment, any new content and things to do in game are much needed.

I just hope they let us craft some chests for storage at some point, and they have a free flow decorating system instead of preassigned slots for items, old SWG had great housing back in the day, an improved version of that would be nice.

In the Rift people spent many hours with housing there and Trion had competition for the best decorations and gave away things like new video cards, it was fun to pop around and visit others houses and see how imaginative some folks can be.

I am holding out until I see the final product, I was concerned since the so called "Barber Shop" just ended up a sterile crown store purchase and added nothing to the game overall. But sound like housing is going to be a bit more thought out lets hope.

I am personally not a fan of the housing outside of guild halls, a place for guilds to get together outside of cities. Though I wouldnt mind a shack with a basement that I can run fight clubs out of for extra gold =).

If this is implemented please allow dueling within the house!

With Skyrim being re-released and the usual influx of games being released in the run up to Christmas, ESO will be losing a lot of players. The previous 3 DLCs have been mediocre at best and with housing being next in the pipeline, unless they release a DLC like Orsinium or Imperial City, what are Zenimax doing to keep players hooked?

What's the point to this, what's the point to that...

This is a video game. Plain and simple. There's no point to any of it other than entertainment. People find decorating, crafting, and the whole idea of housing fun.

What's the point of a Dungeon run? Does it pay the bills? Put food on the dinner table? No, it also simply entertains. Just like housing.

    Yeah this.

Within the only other game I played with housing, EQ2, it was quite useful. In that game there are trophies and collectibles, some animated that can be obtained. That and crafting your own furniture and decorations, it is a way to make your own personal mark in the game. I had the largest house available in the game with almost 750 individual items, but honestly I did not go into it more than once every play session. I was just happy to know I created it.

Since we have no idea how it will actually be implemented I assume the question is directed at the player personally. For me, I use my houses in the single player TES games for all sorts of reasons. They are always for swag display and storage because I can't resist sparkly and won't get rid of it. If available they give a personal crafting space with storage for mats (though the Mage's Tower in Oblivion really sucked at most of this). Mostly though a house is my in-game home and gives me a peaceful base for immersion within the game. I really enjoyed swimming from my dock in Rifton and got outraged when bandits invaded any of the homes I had built. I could walk out on the balcony and spot my steward walking back from somewhere and wonder where he/she had been.

Given the trend is to make every item are bound, if it doesn't let you store every bound set in all their variations on racks. The DLC is pointless.

Even if you have to build the rack yourself via motifs, each rack needs to store the set in all variation ie impen, divine, infused training, etc, so you can have a set for pvp, pve, leveling.

Racked sets should be fluid to the character using them, so a CP160 item racked, should match the level of any other char taking it off the rack, vice / versa. Items pulled off the rack have the capacity to level with the player that takes it off the rack (if they are sub 50).

And as any char can use the set item by interacting with the rack at any time (regardless of whether another char is using it) rings should not be rackable given they are the most sought after item, but should be sellable and be more rare.

ZOS is ruining gold with bound items, if they are going to make the items bound, they should at least make them collectible.

I'm playing less now than I was pre 1T because I don't see the value in farming that which cannot be sold, and my bank is hurting.

Well, besides what has been already said above (extra storage, furniture crafting, RP etc.), I expect a new type of crafting station for either spells or jewelry, being available only in these houses. And that is what makes me think why houses won't be a crown store thing, cause otherwise it would be an obvious P2W.

For me, the number one reason I want housing is that it seems it will include DPS test dummies. That alone is worth it IMO. The two other things that would make me spend serious gold/crowns would be:

    1. Farmland where I can grow alchemy mats.
    2. Mannequins that I can dress and access from any character. That would be a game changer. I would pay lots of crowns to be able to dress 8 -10 mannequins, and then be able to go onto any character and equip, for example, mannequin number 3.

Both of your points are sexy AF....

For ZOS it is a source of revenue. For players it is a feature that should be in any MMORPG since day 1. There is really no point in playing an persistant online roleplaying game if your character doesn't have a house.

It makes me feel more connected to the world. A place to live. I can't remember any mmo I have played without housing. Ok, I do: PotBS and Tabula Rasa. All other games I played had it:

    Sage of Ryzom
    SWG
    Vanguard
    EQ2
    BDO
    SWTOR (later on)

I like to decorate, store loot and a place to retreat. It's my little private part of the world. I just like it.

I guess ESO's housing will provide the following for me:

    - furniture crafting
    - decoration
    - extra storage
    - guild meetings in a large house

I can't wait for it to be implemented. I always want a small or medium house so not to big.
    I agree completely.

If nothing else, as you mentioned, it serves as a place of quiet respite but without having to remove yourself from the game world.

On that note, I absolutely loved my little place in SWG. It was little more than a mid-sized apartment, but it was mine.

*sigh* I really do miss SWG. Out of all the MMO's I've ever played, it ranks in the top 3 for me.
