New vs. Old Characters' Stats After 1T

deleted220103-006055
Hey, my Level 4 Sorcerer's stats are way higher than my Level 50 CP 544 DK stats with no armor (no pets, not in a group, not in a dungeon, no buffs).

L4:
Magicka: 18054
Health: 18871
Stamina: 17473

L50, CP544:
9981
11328
18407 (with 60 attribute points in Stamina)

What's going on? Do stats go down as you level now? If not, is this a visual bug? If not, was my DK supposed to get much stronger with Update 12?

Thanks.

It's because your character is scaled to cp160 now. I don't understand how that scaling works but before 1t it was the same way in dlc zones.

So the stats do go down when leveling, and you essentially choose one stat that stays the same (in my case, Stamina) by sinking attribute points into it.

    A peculiar system, indeed.

Yeah, the scaling system is weird, but the sustain on your Tank is probably much better than your Level 4, regardless of the max stat number. :)

I just made a post with a test video that helps shed some light on this. Check out the thread:

My Character is Leveling Down Instead of Up

I am not even up to CP 160 and my character's base stats are getting weaker. Unless I upgrade weapons and armor every chance I get, I lose ground when I try to play casually with my friends and guild.

Well, you need to keep in mind, that a new player doesn't have acces to all those items that you can have. An average lvl 4 player will have maybe 3-4 random green non set armour pieces, increasing his stats to about 20k each. An average cp 544 player will have epic set gear and uses blue food to also get about 20k hp and additionally 35k+/10k magicka/stamina which is certaily better than 20/20/20.

Having the same issue with with my CP 71 Templar. My bf and I were running around hunting Skyshards and gained around 5 mage points that I dumped into Staff Expert which according to the description should increase my staff attack only to have it decrease by approximately 150 points.

How does this make sense ZOS? How?

this is the one of the few parts of 1t that I don't like. Thankfully I already have 6 max lvl characters so it won't make much of a difference to me.
But for new players just starting it may be the deciding factor for them not to stay.
When you start a game you want to see your character progress and you want to be able to see them get stronger. This aspect of the game is gone.
Could be bad for the future of ESO seeing as getting new players is the basis for keeping the game running.

In this train of logic then, we are not only leveling to CP 160 but to a character with Epic or Legendary class gear then?

Your max level character has more skills and passives so to compensate low level toons get boosted base stats.

The everyone boosted to 160cp is kind of strange though. Today I soloed a dolmen easily on my level 22 stamplar then whilst running back to the closest wayshrine I saw a a guy with 230cp very nearly die to 3 zombies. My stamblade with 200cp and in cheap purple 160cp set gear can solo dolmens but only just. Does feel strange that my high level toon feels weaker doing the same content my lowbie does.

I assume that once i start getting to higher cp levels and optimise my gear by getting better sets and making it gold then my stamblade will become a lot more powerful than my stamplar could ever be as a lowbie.

I'd also like to point out that initially my lowbie using just dropped gear really had to work to get through the content. It wasn't until i gave him a set of crafted blues at level 16 that the content became a lot easier. Balancing the overland content for such a wide range of player abilities and gear/skill set ups must be a nightmare for the devs.

Stats = Power to some I guess.

Skills , Gear and CPs mean nothing. May as well just remove them from the game since stats are all the matters. /s

Early on in the game, characters have their hands held by the scaling system, giving more room for mistakes but a lower threshold for gameplay and damage. A level 4 wont be able to complete nearly as much content as a CP 544. Where a CP 544 can handle themselves with all matter of gameplay as a result of experience, skill points and abilities, a level 4 does not have these tools available.

So, it honestly does make sense that your base stats would decrease over time (with exception to your specialized stats which get only minutely higher: level 4 stamina: 17473< CP544 Stamina:18407 with 60 into attribute points). As you level and learn your way into the game, the game system holds your hand less and less and expects you to make good use of skill points, equipment and attribute point distribution to augment your power. In the end, the game system doesn't hold your hand at all, but the aggregate results of one's skill points, build, etc lead to a much more powerful character in endgame.

In short, a level 4 is well rounded, unspecialized, and able to complete content, while a max level is more powerful, specialized, and able to complete content well.

Also if you consider the gameplay of pre-1T, this is not much different with the exception of inflated numbers and the ability to access any zone. Before, a level 4 in a level 4 area had proportionally similar levels of damage to enemies and unspecialized, well rounded stats. Now, the entire game is like that same level 4 area, it's just that the numbers can be confusing to look at.

How come your level 50 character with 544 champion points has such low stats?

Honestly they might as well do just that to 90% of the content as this update seems to only favor "Optimal Builds" and take away much of the freedom to play casually how you choose.

I see Armor and Damage are scaled up, too -- here, white Level 3 "Unfinished Torment Cuirass," 2,356 Armor. Enchantments are weaker at low levels, though. Food buffs, too? So, the "point" of leveling (as distinct from enjoying the story and quests as you level) is solely for better enchantments? Well, abilities get unlocked, too, obviously.

I can live with this system, though; it's not a deal-breaker.

There is logic to this. You'd grow in power, and so would the enemies. Now this illusion of improvement is gone, but the gameplay is essentially unchanged.

I didn't do anything, lol, except each CP grants a tiny stat boost, just hanging around as a naked Nord (with all class / racial passives), and those are the stats.

Joke if you will but my stamina Nightblade have the best powers early in the game Cloak, Ambush and Suprise Attack are all at the start of our skill trees. Now adding that I use crafted gear with set static bonuses that I can plan out my attacks with over 10% of X that Y.

Point is if you are a Templar, Nightblade or Stamina Sorcerer you good powers are their early on with crafted gear and max cp not having a few passives is not a game changer. Lower levels are battle leveled to impossible numbers. This is fine for older players cause we know why not new players will see themselves getting weaker as the game goes on till cp 160 when they finally get a real leg up.

My bad. I didn't read the original post properly, I now see that you wrote "no armour".

Yea nothing is more depressing than being able to be one shot by a level 10 while they don't have gear with my maxed out full set if they crit. I just wait for them to be level 160, and I will destroy them like all the others. I run away from low levels in PVP they are way too op. Luckily, most of them aren't experienced yet. However, there are some guildies that make level 10 twinks and just destroy in pvp. It is ridonkulous.
