Your a teir one tech moaning about design solutions, when you get yourself out of the dungeon and into the architects role then come back and fill this in. I could list 50 valid reasons why your solution may not work. Some would be a result of legacy debt, others would be design choices built on the back of a lack of knowledge or experience and others may simply be cost restricted calls made way back in alpha or earlier.

I understand that maintenance is an important part of any online game. But, ZOS does in my opinion have a lot of game down time for maintenance and the maintenance rarely solves any of the major issues that have been reported time and time again since ESO's implementation.

What I really don't like is when ZOS does what they are doing this week. Monday Oct 10th they were down at 4am EST for patch maintenance. Tomorrow Oct 11 they will go down again at 6am EST for system maintenance. Why not just do both on the same day? But we are dealing with ZOS so whatever.

So youre putting down customers who are not happy with being inconvenienced by a company they are giving money to for a service or product? I subbed for over a year to this game and regularly buy stuff out of the crown store. I am a customer.

Are you telling me I dont have a right to be upset that I cannot use the product I paid for and continue to pay for?

Sure you have the right to complain but you also agreed to the ToS which states they can take the servers offline whenever they please with or without notification.

The reason is because the fix they are putting in for Oct 11 wasn't part of the main patch. It was a fix that was still being tested. Would you really want an untested fix implemented?

    My 2 cents...

I've only read 2 pages of this thread but half of you are saying "it's patch maintenance so it's okay, deal with it".
For us suckers on console, we are NOT getting weekly or fortnightly patches, yet we still get downtime. Okay, maybe they're hot fixing certain bugs, but I certainly haven't noticed any 'tweaks'. I still get the odd random load screen. Sometimes I get kicked, then when I try to get back in it tells me "this account is already logged in". The last actual patch (for SOTH) fixed an awful lot of problems I was having, for which I'm grateful, but there's been no patch since then.

If your bank's website and all of its related electronic-ware such as ATMs and EFT terminals, or something like Netflix went down on a regular basis for up to 8 hours you'd be screaming, I guarantee it.

I think we can all agree that more transparency from ZoS would be appreciated if nothing else; just saying it's "mandatory maintenance" means nothing. Every scheduled maintenance is ALWAYS during my prime play time - I accept that, but I feel I have a right to complain about it, even if it's just to my husband. No one likes being inconvenienced.

For us in Australia (east coast, Daylight Savings time) the "regular" (2 hour) maintenance starts at 9pm... for the longer maintenances it's generally 5pm.

Another thread about inconvenient downtimes. Come on people ZOS has been doing this for almost 2 years lol.

so that means we should just blindly accept it? Its still BS, whether its 2 years in or 20.

You think the planet shares the same timezone? Whenever the maintenance times get moved SOMEONE is going to be affected by it. Besides we're a bit forced to accept it seeing as it's not our game, it's Zenimax's, and if we want to continue partaking in it, we have to deal with certain things.

I know it's always an inconvenience to someone but to give you some perspective, last week us Aussies lost 2 nights between 4pm -12pm and this week is the same, Monday and now Tuesday nights for us.

Our guild doesn't run any events on Monday nights for this reason but it is tough to lose 2 prime-time nights.

Probably less important if you aren't trying to be competitive but we strive to be competitive in PvP which means we need to run guild trial, pledge and vDSA nights along with enjoying what we play the game for - PvP. Losing 2 week nights really makes this difficult and as has been mentioned earlier, this isn't the first week this has happened in very recent times.

We are just as entitled to complain as anyone that loses 2 prime time nights a week to maintenance. I'm not sure on the solution though TBH. 3hrs later everyday would suit Aussies and Kiwis but would still be a problem for others so besides reducing the number of maintenance days what do you do? :s

I'm sure ZOS would be absolutely thrilled if you were to design for them for free a workable server system that never has be taken down for maintenance or patches ever.

But (and here is the point I keep trying to make) I don't need to design it -- being able to do this is common industry practice. Still, if they're unsure how it works, here's the basic rundown.
    • Test the patches on a test server.
    • Once you're sure it works as intended, push the updates to a deployment server, leaving the production (i.e. live) server running.
    • Once the update has been pushed, switch the point of entry -- the deployment server now becomes the production server. New users logging on will automatically connect to the updated server, and you can push out a message to users still on the old server that they should log out and back in again when it's convenient (maybe giving a deadline of a couple of hours before forcibly ejecting them).
    • Once the old server is empty it becomes your deployment server for the next update.

Well look at that. You've pushed out a new update, and the only inconvenience is that some people have had to log out and back in again. No massive downtime or anything. I wonder why nobody thought of that befo... oh, wait, they did. I remember learning about it at college nearly 30 years ago...

Exactly how my mate who is a techy sorts my hobbyist website out, updates software, make sure its running correctly, switches to the latest running version and you as a user dont even know its happened. he has tried to teach me these things over the years, but its confusing to a simpleton like me lol

The Place by Tony Walsh Please Read
This is the place in the North West of England

It’s ace, it’s the best and the songs that we sing

From the stands, from our bands set the whole planet shaking

Our inventions are legends! There’s nowt we can’t make and

So we make brilliant music. We make brilliant bands

We make goals that make souls leap from seats in the stands

And we make things from steel and we make things from cotton

And we make people laugh, take the mick summat rotten

And we make you at home and we make you feel welcome

And we make summat happen, we can’t seem to help it

And if you’re looking for history then yes, we’ve a wealth

But the Manchester way is to make it yourself

And make us a record, a new number one

And make us a brew while you’re up, love. Go on!

And make us feel proud that you’re winning the league

And make us sing louder and make us believe it

that this is the place that has helped shape the world

And that this the place where a Manchester girl

Name of Emmeline Pankhurst from the streets of Moss Side

Led a Suffragette City with sisterhood pride

And this is the place with appliance of science

We’re on it, atomic, we strut with defiance

In the face of a challenge we always stand tall

Mancunians in union delivered it all

Such as housing and libraries, and health, education

And unions and co-ops, the first railway station

So we’re sorry! Bear with us! We invented commuters!

But we hope you forgive us – we invented computers!

And this is the place Henry Royce strolled with Rolls

And we’ve rocked and we’ve rolled with our own Northern Soul

And so this is the place to do business, then dance

Where go-getters and goal setters know they’ve a chance

And this is the place where we first played as kids

And me Mam lived and died here, she loved it she did

And this is the place where our folks came to work

Where they struggled in puddles, they hurt in the dirt

And they built us a city. They built us these towns

And they coughed on the cobbles to the deafening sound

Of the steaming machines and the screaming of slaves

They were scheming for greatness, they dreamed to their graves

And they left us a spirit, they left us a vibe

The Mancunian Way to survive and to thrive

And to work and to build, to connect and create and

Greater Manchester’s greatness is keeping it great

And so this is the place now we’ve kids of our own

Some are born here, some drawn here but we all call it home

And they’ve covered the cobbles, but they’ll never defeat

All the dreamers and schemers who still teem through these streets

Because this is a place that has been through some hard times

Oppressions, recessions, depressions and dark times

But we keep fighting back with Greater Manchester spirit

Northern grit, northern wit in Greater Manchester’s lyrics

And there’s hard times again in these streets of our city

But we won’t take defeat and we don’t want your pity

Because this a place where we stand strong together

With a smile on our face, Mancunians Forever

And we’ve got this* as the place where a team with a dream (*Forever Manchester)

Can get funding and something to help with their scheme

Because this is the place that understands your grand plans

We don’t do No Can Do, we just stress Yes We Can!

Forever Manchester’s a charity for people round ‘ere

You can fundraise, donate. You can be a volunteer

You can live local, give local. We can honestly say

We do charity differently, that Mancunian Way

And we fund local kids, and we fund local teams

We support local dreamers to work for their dreams

We support local groups and the great work they do

So can you …help us help… local people like you?

Because this is the place in our hearts, in our homes

Because this is the place that’s a part of our bones

‘Cos Greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact

That this is the place. We should give something back.

Always remember. Never forget. Forever Manchester.

When you bought ESO was there any information stating they're closed 5 or more hours every week, one one particular day? Companies do tell you their business hours. Your faulty logic has made you lose all credibility.

I never could understand why some people feel compelled to defend corporations...

This makes me laugh. I remember after closed beta the servers were only up for 5 or so hours a week. People think the complaining is bad now, hahaha. I do see your point though. I use to work night shift, I didn't get 10% I got 40c extra a hr :(, and these Monday maintenances have been a burden. I work in a NOC and see maintenances go to *** all the time, hardly ever software but I also don't deal with that end only fiber/cable networks.
